Thracian Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Kasper's the man - he doesn't need to hold the ball up with the finishing talent he's got!
Ric Flair Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I cant believe it would only be us and Southampton interested given how he finished the season. I imagine he'll end up at Tottenham or someone similar. He wont come here. Disagree. The lad just wants to play football, he was considering joining Sheffield Wednesday permanently less than a year ago. I think he's pissed off with the way Sunderland have treated him and now he's proven he can have a future in this league, he wants to go to a club that will value you him as their star striker. He will not get that at Tottenham or even Southampton. I could see Newcastle having a sniff though.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 We'll probably start the bidding at something stupid like £1m and then go up in 100k increments while Southampton stroll in and get their first offer accepted... ^^^ This. The stage we are at I'd be fairly happy with Wickham here. A gamble I feel is worth it. Young & still has a lot to prove.

Banks Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 We would still have to have an offer accepted, this is a similar situation to the Maynard summer really, only we seem less determined to get him and are facing tougher competition to sign him. But apart from that, he's ours. I'm just trying to be positive
jonah Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 It'd be a great signing but there is no way he'll accept 30k a week and I doubt would choose to reside in Leicestershire over Southampton - which kinda makes it a pipe dream unfortunately. Ive resided in Southampton for the last 9 months .....Never been so glad to come back to Leicestershire!
Banks Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Surely Spurs won't go for him? They have Adebayor, similar type of player. Southampton have just signed Pelle who's 6ft 4, so can't see them going for him.
surrifox Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 It's tough going up against Southampton, if that proves the case, but we're likely to get competition for any decent player. And just like in a football match which is a two-team contest, there's no joy in finishing second. With a wages cap, that's what will happen time and again. it shouldn't be tough to go against them- they seem prepared to flog their brightest young players (OK lambert wasn't young but Lallana and Shaw are ) allowed their manager to leave and have a reluctant owner who wants rid of the club at the earliest opportunity.
VLC86 Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Amazing how if one of our players did this we would be calling him a greedy bastard, can't wait up see the back if him etc but when we are after someone then it's deemed acceptable. Let's face it, he's after more money and will probably get it from Sunderland.

Don't think there were too many calling Dyer a greedy bastard either.

Hardly the type of player to be seen spraying a £25k bottle of champers in his face is he. And I would guess Dyer isn't on more money at Grotford, just wanted to guarantee his career for a few years which for me is anything but greedy.

Wickham's motives aren't specifically monetry, it's been reported he feels he hasn't been treated that well at Sunderland. The last couple of months have clouded over the fact Sunderland didn't really rate him.
Babylon Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 He's started about as many games for Sheffield Wednesday as he has Sunderland since joining them three years ago, it's hardly a shock he's not rushing to sign up again.

Let's be honest he has a point to prove, he's not the first striker to have 5 good games at the end of the season. Honestly think this is a bit more of a gamble than Ulloa.
SlaneyLCFC Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 One of the few good players we have been linked with. Would be happy enough if this came to fruition

Honestly think this is a bit more of a gamble than Ulloa. He does have a point to prove, which is exactly the sorts of player Pearson goes for. How do you work that one out? Wickham scored 8 goals in 11 matches at Sheffield Wednesday and then 5 in his last 6 games for Sunderlans, more impressive than Ulloa did last season at the same level and higher. It is still a gamble though for Wickham as he could go either way, but he's got big potential.

Well Ulloa has been more consistent for a few years where as Wickham hasn't proved to be prolific at any point in his career. No doubting he has potential though.

No doubting he has potential though. He's 21 years old and has never had a consistent opportunity to show how good he is. I might suggest bearing that in mind, he has not had a chance to be prolific.

No doubting he has potential though. I'd much rather take a risk on a player whose career and potential is on the rise rather than a player who has yet to grace the highest level in England and is already 28 years of age.
WhispyWizard Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Lets get Ulloa this summer and get Wickham for peanuts in January No reason we can't have both ...
ARM1968 Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I'd rather have Wickham than Ulloa. Won't be cheap though even with his contract situation and wages may be prohibitive with NP's determination not to undermine the squad pay structure. Mind you you're not going to make a marque signing without piercing the wage ceiling.

They'll probably let us have Wickham for £12M or something.

Unfortunately we haven't got the wages structured to pay the likes of Fraizer Campbell so I doubt he'll be coming no matter if a fee could be agreed or not.
