Collymore Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 What are people's expectations for these this season? I think we'll do well in the league Cup, Semis??? Will lighting strike twice? (boro 1997) I'm not sure as we had a proper hardworking outfit. The team back then were better at grinding out one off results under MON, better than what we have now I think. To be fair to Pearson, he still seemed to motivate us for the cup games last season, even when many would have excused him jacking the cups in for league priority. I think with a bit more quality, larger squad and belief we could be in for a treat next season.
Xen Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 FA cup > Prem survival > League Cup. I reckon we'll use the league cup as an outlet for some of our younger players to get some minutes, such as Moore/Schlupp/Hopper et al, and put most of our efforts into staying in the premier league. If we manage to get through our first few FA cup fixtures, then I'd hope we put a lot more emphasis on doing well there, and can see us getting to the semis and drawing a side like Chelsea. Predictions: League: 14th FA Cup: Semis League Cup: Fourth Round
Leicesterpool Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I'd rather us get knocked out of the second round of the league cup in exchange of having a good fa cup run this year. Course league is priority, but a cup run shouldn't do any harm in fact it could even boost morale.
lestajigs Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Well hull didn't do to bad, so would love to see us in the FA cup final
Bayfox Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 My expectations are nil as pearson has already said that the cups don't matter this season. However I still dream of the day we lift the fa cup. Hopefully if we can establish ourselves as a top 10 side....... maybe just maybe I will see our name engraved on that trophy.
Fox92 Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Well hull didn't do to bad, so would love to see us in the FA cup final Yeah, I'd be quite pleased if we emulated their season.
Jace Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I hope we make an effort in both, 2 quarter finals in 3 years and with improvements made to the squad this season I can't see why we cannot reach a final with a bit of luck. Lets not forget theres many less games in the Premiership than Championship too
Filbert_Ross Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Reserve team for both cups. That's exactly what the fans want to see ay.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I really can't see us winning any silverware next season, as I am sure Pearson will be fully committed to steering us to Premiership stability next season.
cc_star Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Would love the FA Cup, however Euro League is so shit, makes loads of league games on Sundays so miss all the TV's Prem games too. Shame the FA Cup doesn't lead to the 4th CL spot & the team who finishes 4tg in the Prem goes in the Euro League Anyway, for a club like us a great run in the FA Cup is a once in a lifetime (if not longer) event. I'd take an FA Cup win over Prem survival any day, but I know most people are blinded by the Prem and its rent-a-foreign player
sylofox Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I hope we make an effort in both, 2 quarter finals in 3 years and with improvements made to the squad this season I can't see why we cannot reach a final with a bit of luck. Lets not forget theres many less games in the Premiership than Championship too With you on most of it jace but the prem games will be twice as hard as games last season. 2 cup runs would be great but I would give 2 first round exit's for safety. Next season if we stay up yes we should be looking for good cup runs.
Dan Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Hope we don't turn into one of those clubs who neglects the possibility of silverware for the myth that it increases our chances of staying in the Premier League. Another motivation brought about by money.
LeicesterLuke91 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Any fan would take prem survival over a cup win surely? But I do love the feeling of a good cup tie
foxfanazer Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Would love a good FA cup run this season. Clubs of our stature have a decent shot of it nowadays imo. It could be important to boost morale if we're struggling in the league
CosbehFox Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Would love the FA Cup, however Euro League is so shit, makes loads of league games on Sundays so miss all the TV's Prem games too. In all honesty, if we reached Europe I'd probably sack the domestic games to concentrate on that. I was only a child for Madrid and Vienna so...
Filbert_Ross Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Any fan would take prem survival over a cup win surely? But I do love the feeling of a good cup tie I've seen Prem survival a few times now, most have. Never seen us win the FA Cup
LeicesterLuke91 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I've seen Prem survival a few times now, most have. Never seen us win the FA Cup Do love the history and nostalgia of the FA Cup though. It's unrivalled in terms of domestic cup competitions
Jace Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 The only time I want to see us resting players for the cups is when we are in the Champions League or Europa League, the cups are a huge opportunity for the teams out of the Premierships elite 5 to win a major competition
Filbert_Ross Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Do love the history and nostalgia of the FA Cup though. It's unrivalled in terms of domestic cup competitions I remember Dave Kitson saying that he "didn't give two shits" about the FA Cup and it was all about survival whilst at Reading. I'd prefere to end my career having actually won something to be honest.

Filbert_Ross Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 He's bound to. It pays more. It's actually sad how much players emphasise on that little bit more money over success. Good point. Yeah it is sad. I don't know why so many teams think it's beyond them to compete in the league as well as the cups. Even teams that have no chance of going down play the stiffs in the cup.
promised land Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Never seen us win the FA Cup There's not many living or dead who have.
Corky Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 I hope we give them a proper go, who knows, winning games might be a good thing?
Silverdaz Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Your only going to get a the FA cup back to its glory days if you scrap the winners going into the Europa League and taking the 4th champions league place but that aint going to happen
Voll Blau Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 If you're not playing to win trophies what's the point.
