UpTheLeagueFox Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 He'll be discussing Leicester City's transfer activity and how he thinks we'll get on in the Premier League etc after 3pm tomorrow (Saturday) on talkSPORT. (And before you ask, there won't be any mention of what has happened to him in the past week or so as he's moved on and drawn a line under it.)
Spudulike Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 So will it be you and Stringer on RL next season ??
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 18 July 2014 Author Posted 18 July 2014 So will it be you and Stringer on RL next season ?? Haha no.
bluebeau Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Dear Alan Young, I just wish that you had the bottle to come out & tell us the reason(s) that your contract was not renewed by RL. As the guy on RL Phone In said, it is up to you whether you want to make the reason(s) public or not, so if you have done nothing wrong, then why not tell us the reason(s)? Can tell us why you said that your feelings towards LCFC had changed as a result of RL not using your services for the season ahead, & who were you referring to when you said that you had been let down by people that you thought were your friends. If the above questions have been answered, then I apologise but I haven't read them.

If he doesn't want to say, for whatever reason, that's his business.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 "This is Alan Young, with you until 5AM on 107.8 FM, Quest Radio - 'All the Hits, All the Time.' We'll have some more floorfillers from the golden age of disco after these messages." gwon alan lad

If he's on that of a station on Saturday to talk about Leicester then talk about that. (As I'm sure he will. It's the morons who won't let it drop that this is aimed at). Nobody owes you a ****ing explanation.

The_77 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Has anyone ever listened to a game and thought, "Wow. That was a pretty insightful comment by Alan Young!"?
Webbo Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Has anyone ever listened to a game and thought, "Wow. That was a pretty insightful comment by Alan Young!"? If you're sat at home listening to the radio how would you know if it was insightful or not.
The_77 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 If you're sat at home listening to the radio how would you know if it was insightful or not. Yikes.
Bert Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 I've listened to Youngy on the way home from games. His vendetta against Kneeyockart is embarrassing. Very rare I've agreed with anything he's had to say but that's the football.
yorkie1999 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Has anyone ever listened to a game and thought, "Wow. That was a pretty insightful comment by Alan Young!"? Yes, particularly when he spoke about his time playing for us
Stuliasz Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Sometimes you just have to respect somebody's privacy. If he doesn't want to say, for whatever reason, that's his business. I'd agree with this if he hadn't gone to the Mercury moaning about his sacking and making it public himself. If he wanted to keep it private, he'd have just not commented at all and moved on. I thought he was a reasonable co-commentator compared to some that they've had (Matt Piper and Steve Walsh spring to mind), we have to remember it's a local radio station so I think people expect too much anyway. However it's hard to have sympathy when he gives some of the story but not all of it and clearly uses PR techniques to try and gather sympathy from the public, which seems to be working in some quarters.

Agree. Like I said at the start, two sides to every story. We only heard Alan's side. Manipulated it all to make RL look the bad guy.

"Clearly uses PR techniques" ... Youngy? Trust me, Al had no idea how to handle what to him was a bombshell decision. It blew into an almighty firestorm - whipped up by some extreme reporting in the Mercury - and it took him very much by surprise. As Bert said, there are several sides to a story - and it really isn't worth dragging up the details. I can assure Bert and everyone else that Al didn't try and 'manipulate' anything. Anyway, everyone connected with it has drawn a line and moved on and Al has politely requested the fans to do the same.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Sometimes you just have to respect somebody's privacy. If he doesn't want to say, for whatever reason, that's his business. Then he should not have gone so public seeking backing should he ? That does make it every ones business. He should have let sleeping dogs lie and bowed out with good grace before someone discovers the Skeleton in his cupboard ie the real reason they got rid.

Fair enough if he's been misrepresented by the Mercury, they have a sad habit of doing that these days. The article(s) have certainly given the impression that he was keen to make his point rather than "move on" but I suppose journalists will sensationalise things As I said before, I thought he was fairly decent at his job, no-one in that kind of industry can ever be universally liked. Given that a "firestorm" was whipped up, it's a shame he didn't use the opportunity of a relatively neutral media outlet to clarify that a line has been drawn under his previous role and that everyone should move on. Otherwise we are just left with the 'extreme reporting'.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 18 July 2014 Author Posted 18 July 2014 There were communication misunderstandings between Al and the Beeb which didn't help matters either. Plus the Mercury seemed very keen to stick the boot into the Beeb. No-one comes out of it smelling of roses but life goes on for both of them.
David Lowe Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 I am still baffled by the fact he was told by phone when he is in the studio every week. Not surprising there were misunderstandings.

Do people expect too much or do they just want competency? Getting player's names completely wrong on the side you're meant to be covering, as well as having obvious, stubborn vendettas / dislikes towards certain players to the point it makes things farcical shouldn't be par for the course just because "it's only local radio."
