Guest Col city fan Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Said before the game if we keep it to less than 3 we've done really well. Proud of that performance and if Nugent had scored we might have nicked something. The squad is too thin. That much is clear. But very very good effort against one of the best club sides in the world. Again, I'm surprised at the Schlupp doubters.
yorkie1999 Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Want to defend Nugent a bit for that 1 on 1. He got ball under control well, had a look up and to his side to see if he had any support, then put his head down and struck it cleanly for the bottom right corner, but Courtois came out so quickly and made a very good save to his low left. Only thing Nugent could have done was to chip him I think but that would take Fabregas size balls!! I'm not worrying about Nugent just yet anyway! Vardy would have had the confidence and pace to go round the keeper
Nick Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Fantastic performance. We just couldn't sustain the tempo into the second half especially without any DM's. GTF smart passing but has no place on that pitch at this level with that amount of mobility - sorry Gary. KS was immense (Mind you their Courtois fella was a bit special) Team ran their socks off we had opportunities but not always the final ball or that one chance/touch finishing and passing quality of the opposition. Konch Liam Wes and Richie were good value. Midfield did their best as did the forwards against some real quality. I thought Schlupp on the wing was excellent today. Great performance - send the kids out on Tuesday and sign Cambiasso - we'll smash the gunners next Sunday...... honest.... Edit: Didn't mention King - he had a great game.
sdb Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Very good for an hour, and a good result whilst we're on such a steep learning curve. Nugent needs to be super-clinical at this level and RDL is out of his depth imo but elsewhere there are lots of positives, including our home grown players which is great to see.
Webbo Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Nugent wasted our best chances and showed no conviction in either attempt, why take Ulloa off for Wood? They could play together Tbf to Nuge, at least he had a couple of chances to miss, I can't remember Ulloa having a shot.
cc_star Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Evens with the best team in the country for 60mins We need to take chances like Nugent's then who knows what could happen Didn't look the same when Hammond went off although Chelsea had not long brought Ramirez & Willian on Hammond, King, Moore & Morgan fantastic, Mahrez great too apart from his corners
Kitchandro Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Really? I thought Schlupp was great today on the whole. I agree his tracking back looks lazy but that can be addressed. But that is the basics. He's been trained as a left back hasn't he? Being lazy is inexcusable. He also lacks quality and decision making on the ball. I just don't think he's any good tbh. He looks well out of his depth in quality and intelligence, he's so annoying to watch. Albrighton or Knocky would be well ahead of him for me (and no I'm not saying either of those are perfect either).
Haydos Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I'm not sure how Nuge is getting so much stick for those chances. First one it was bobbling. Arguably could have taken it on a touch or got it a bit further away from Courtois. Second one was slotted well away from Courtois, right along the ground, textbook finish but it was a crazy save. His touches were good and he got his head up but seriously, watch how quickly Courtois closes the gap as soon as he takes his touch to set up. It's insane. And then he manages to get a foot so far away from his body.Could have done a bit better with both but not even slightly glaring misses.
cc_star Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Tbf to Nuge, at least he had a couple of chances to miss, I can't remember Ulloa having a shot. Exactly! Got to be in it, to win it
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Full of pride for the lads. We gave them a harder game than they(and most of us) expected I think most of us would've settled for a 2-0 loss
Corky Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 It's unlucky to lose three CMs in the space of 10 days, unfortunate there but I think we'll get another one in. The squad needs improving and we can't be too choosy now. Great that so far King, Hammond and Morgan have all performed admirably when their quality at this level was heavily questioned.

crisp packet Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 To put it into perspective? They had a fit £50m striker not even in the squad. Great team performance. At this level you have to take your chances... Must strengthen squad ASAP very very very thin. (Quantity and quality)
CosbehFox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Can't argue with the result. Chelsea deserved it in the second half but we weren't disgraced, we gave them a game. Courtois will be getting 7 and 8 in tomorrow's paper. We need what was required and when you get that chance against the big boys you need to take it, we didn't. Then the class eventually told(albeit a scrappy finish and a deflected shot). Thought the middle spine of the team was superb.

He offered Hazard a free shot from 15 yards. Nothing wrong with thinking he's out his depth but when you suggest Albrighton instead who gave away a goal by doing the basics shit 5 mins after being on the pitch it undermines what you're saying.
Guest Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 We were excellent for 60 minutes then ran out of steam. Considering many of our best players were not available - Vardy, Drinky and James at least - we acquitted ourselves well against one of the best teams in the World. Happy but ready for our first win.
MHC Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I regrettably couldn't make it to the game today but sounded as though we put a shift in according to radio Leicester and soccer Saturday. By no means an embarrassing result, we need to be more clinical and ruthless. Most importantly, we need reinforcements, and fast. I reckon we need a point at least against Arsenal next week.
BlueSi13 Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Nugent wasted our best chances and showed no conviction in either attempt, why take Ulloa off for Wood? They could play together As much as I love Nigel, something tells me Nugent is one of his favourites. If Vardy doesn't come in ahead of him then that will confirm it for me.

So many keepers would be on the floor by the time Nugent struck.

The first one was a bit more difficult but he hit it so central and without conviction it had no chance of going in. The second one though, come one, a striker playing at this level has to score that really. These are the fine margins we are working to now.

Jeff's decision making is no more questionable than Riyad's, and the latter is an out-and-out winger. He does, however, need to work on his crossing if he's to make it as a wide man.

He held up his own very well against one of the best teams in the country... sod it, in the World. That was his first full game in the Premier League. One shouldn't be so quick to come to such rash conclusions.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Play like that and we will give arsenal a good game next week
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 FFS Wind your neck in.. I didn't predict us to keep it to 3, I said it would be a great effort if we did. And we did. Chill yerself man...
