Vicki Vixen Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Not sure if it's been mentioned but Konchesky was vey good again today. He's has had his share of stick, but has showed in the last 2 games that he can still perform at this level.
Stuliasz Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Didn't think I'd be disappointed if we lost 2-0 but the chance was there today. First half we were fantastic, more than matched them. Second half they upped the tempo and while we struggled to cope, we were still a bit of a threat on the counter. They also deserve credit for not capitulating towards the end. They must have been physically and mentally knackered, and GTF looked so out of place in centre mid it was unreal. Anyway it gives me confidence that we can give Arsenal a good go next week. Need to rest a lot of those players on Tuesday night too, they need time to recover.
Corky Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Really pleased with Pearson's mentality. We've seen enough managers over the years go to the big clubs/ top teams and just give the game up before it started or put everyone behind the ball and invite pressure. Yet even with a weakened team Pearson still wanted us to go and win the game, impose ourselves on the match. We risked a heavy defeat to try and gain something. A remarkable change from a supposed cautious manager.
The Doctor Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Mers may be a drug addled nutter but he talks a lot of sense. Aside from pre-season when he tipped us to go down because our stadium is too nice - as if that was somehow relevant?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Really didn't think GTF did that bad! He definitely hasn't been inspired to lose any weight though now we are in the Prem haha Agree that we hopefully won't be requiring him again but harsh for people to say he was an embarrassment (for his play anyway) Did you miss him chasing Willian's shadow? I'm not going to rip into him too heavily as he was just used as an extra body in midfield so he wasn't played where he can really be effective, but he offered little when he came on [today].
Narborough_fox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Nugent should have finished the second chance he got when put through, we can't pass up on them in the Premier League. But take nothing away from Courtois it was an outstanding save and why he's one of the best keepers in the world.
Fox42 Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 At least we're talking about Nugent negatively so early into the season. This is one field I'm sure Nugent will be adamant to rectify immediately (hopefully). Only concern is that we're looking as thin as Victoria Beckham at the moment.
ScouseFox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 haven't seen or heard owt apart from twitter comments but seems we were unlucky/not quite good enough which was obviously expected. ah well. glad kingy's got more good reviews, as has moore. academy products mixing it with the best in the world boo yehhh.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 At least we're talking about Nugent negatively so early into the season. This is one field I'm sure Nugent will be adamant to rectify immediately (hopefully). What?
ScouseFox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 also why was our gaz taylor fletch trending on twitter? what did he do? or was it just cos he looks a bit plump?
Robin JD Popley Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Very proud. Think that is all that needs saying.
StanSP Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I'm sure it's been said but I'm so proud of the lads today. Didn't crumble under the occasion of going up against a title favourite and instead gave them a proper game of football and nearly scored with some decent chances, Nugent's being the outstanding chance. We aren't the first team to not score at Chelsea and we sure as hell won't be the last. And Courtois is a top keeper and it was more a decent save to contribute to a bad miss. Thought Kasper was the better goal-keeper, though. Some quality saves and much better than his last performance at Stamford Bridge. In some games those saves will win us points and the 4 central players in front of him had quality games against some world-class individuals - Morgan/Moore fairly solid again. King and Hammond did well considering who they were up against. I'm just glad we showed ambition and fight and vigour, more-so in the first half and very unfortunate Hammond went off which totally played in to Chelsea's hands. We created some very good opportunities and we can learn from a game like this which is another advantage of having it so early on. Pleased with the performance and the score/stats don't do just too much justice. We can definitely go in to the next few games with more optimism now based on today.
Webbo Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 also why was our gaz taylor fletch trending on twitter? what did he do? or was it just cos he looks a bit plump? He looked like a sack of shit. I'm in better shape than him.
Fox42 Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 What? About his finishing. What's so hard to understand?
bovril Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 wtf have pen3's posts been deleted because he slagged Nugent? Christ there are some sensitive souls.
XLM Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 Better teams will go to Stamford Bridge this season and come away a lot worse. We should all be proud of the lads in the first half - sadly their quality shone through but there's a good reason they costed the amount they did. We've taken a point from 2 games against players that are competitive on an International stage. We don't look out of place in the Premiership.
OzFox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 They should, but when they set up well, hit hit low and in the corner and it's still saved, what can you do? Seriously, watch the chance again, the ground the keeper closes down is astonishing. If he'd have taken it earlier I think it would have been in but the moment he nudges it out in front of him Courtois is within yards of him Personally I think the first one he had a better chance with, he could have just smashed it. Mark Bosnich is a pundit over here these days. He was raving about how fast Courtois closed down the chance as soon as Nugent took a slightly loose touch I didn't think Nuge did a great deal wrong there either...it was a very good save
casablancas Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 also why was our gaz taylor fletch trending on twitter? what did he do? or was it just cos he looks a bit plump? Read that as a blimp; mind you he is portly.

The speed Courtois came out, only thing I saw Nuge could have done different was to chip him but that takes some balls!
yorkie1999 Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I think Once we get vardy drinkwater and James back we'll be fine, give a good account of ourselves and be able to to impose our style of football. We're only thin on the ground because our backup midfielders are the starting players
ImBlue Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 also why was our gaz taylor fletch trending on twitter? what did he do? or was it just cos he looks a bit plump? Because people probably find it funny he is actually a premier league footballer
Captain... Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 One thing I think that was clear today was shit that worked in the championship doesn't work in the prem, a few times Mahrez tried something that would have worked last season it didn't come off. A few times he was too good for them, but really what counts is we can take a lot from the game and learn from it going forwards. After our horrendous start the only thing I want is that we have confidence going into our run of winnable games.
ScouseFox Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 He looked like a sack of shit. I'm in better shape than him. oh nice thought so but had a little hope that maybe he'd come off the bench and twatted john terry or something boss
jimmeh Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 So on the back of 2 good performances, we are going down? 2 games where we have been without se of our best players? You really really needs to get a grip So bringing on a league 1 standard striker to play centre mid in prem is acceptable?
Matt Posted 23 August 2014 Posted 23 August 2014 I though GTF had trimmed down and was looking good in pre-season, what's gone wrong? He's HUGE!
