Chelsea 2-0 Leicester - Post Match Discussion

In case any of the players read this; you were, man for man, fantastic today.

Kasper pulled off a few great saves; against Cesc pick of the bunch for me, and was not at fault for either goal (had second one covered bar the deflection).

Morgan, Moore and Konchesky are more than good enough at this level. Moore is really showing his class. If he was in a top team, he'd fit in and the press would be all over him (see Stones or Chambers).

King, Hammond looked so comfortable. I'd go so far as to say Hammond was the dominant player in that midfield until he went off. Extremely tidy.

Mahrez, Schlupp did a good job, defensively too; Mahrez constantly nicking the ball off Chelsea. Schlupp could track back with more urgency. Mahrez needs to be calmer with set pieces.

Nugent, so much stick for the chances, but not warranted. The first he had to take early, had the ball released to him a little soon and it was not the easiest chance. He hit the target. The second he did everything right, it was great goalkeeping. His only other option was the dink (would have been outrageous at that pace) or rounding him, which he does not have the gas for.

Ulloa is a gem. No shots at goal but no service to have a chance; his hold up play and general work with the ball at his feet was good.

De Laet; you have the ability to play at this level, but still look nervous. Play him in the League Cup, give him some confidence. Only player that didn't do himself justice today. Aside from...

Taylor-Fletcher. I am sorry, but absolutely nowhere near a Premier League central midfielder. Not his fault, but its worrying we have no other options. If the game was tighter and one we should have been winning, and we'd had to bring on GTF, it could have cost us.

Very uplifiting team performance. Everyone was working ever so hard (bar maybe GTF) and while we clearly ran out of steam after their first goal, which is a worry, it bodes well for the season. We have enough skill, we definitely have enough determination and I'm hoping we have the stamina to compete every week. Strange I should say this in a game we finally failed to score, but Chelsea will finish in the top two this year and we gave them a proper workout. Good stuff.

Did better than expected for 60 minutes, worked hard and competed against a very good side, who will probaly be champions at the end of the season.

Positives- worked hard as a team, and created a few good chances.

Albrighton looked good when he came on.

Negatives- lack quality when given chances, and then with this small squad, injuries are mounting up already.

Seriously need some decent additions in before the window shuts, a decent finisher and midfield cover a must.

All in all better than I thought we'd do, great support, and if we play like that against some of the lesser teams, we might see a few results come our way.

60 mins class performance even deserved a win

last 30 lost it completely , no subs poor obviously deserved to lose portion of the game

cue strength in depth tthread

overall very good performance, most teams would take a 2-0 defeat at the bridge as a reasonable result

but corners were diabolical !! http://www.fourfourtwo.com/statszone/8-2014/matches/755314/team-stats/13/2_ATTACK_03#tabs-wrapper-anchor

very proud - but worried about our depth going forward

Full marks for effort and commitment esp' first half.  I think you can walk away from that one with your head held high.

You made it tricky for us until we flipped up a couple of gears in the second half.

More clinical finishing up front and, dare I say it, a bit more fitness across the squad, and it would've been even closer.  Was surprised to see some of your lads flagging a fair bit in the second half - could cost you across the winter period.

Nice to meet with a couple of your lads outside SB too (Mikey & ?) but not sure if you are on here.

Have a good season fellas and looking forward to meeting you again later in the season.

Great effort from the lads today but we don't want to gain the title of plucky losers, we need strengthening if we're going to stop that happening. The money men at the club need to back Nige now if they're serious about us becoming a force.

I do wonder what Niges state of mind will be if he isn't able / allowed to strengthen over the next week.

I think there'll be few games where they'll have to work as hard off the ball as Chelsea away, though; and we're incredibly thin on the ground at the moment. A few reinforcements before the window closes should address that.

The stick people get for even daring to criticise Nugent on this message board is hilarious

He was clean through and should have scored. End of.  No excuses at this level.

I think he had a good game, played well, but I am very disappointed he didn't score, I said in my post earlier you don't get many chances against the likes of Chelsea, you need to make the most of them, be clinical.

It's called balance, i've praised him because I think he's played well, but that doesn't take away from the fact he should have scored.

People on here need to learn to give constructive criticism, say it how it is, not paper over the cracks.

when i woke this morning i expected we would lose, but we performed so well it still feels bad. only after the secind goal did we actually look defeated. well pleased with the effort and if we can play like that all season, we will be fine

also why was our gaz taylor fletch trending on twitter? what did he do? or was it just cos he looks a bit plump?

Lineker tweeted something about him being double-barrelled so people probably trying to find out who the hell he is

The fact we had to bring on GTF in midfield shows how desperate we are for a bit more cover.

We've been unlucky with injuries but you wouldn't want to be in that situation again.

It was a good effort and I never expected any other result than a Chelsea win. We just need a bit more strength in depth.

Proud of all the players.

One thing I think that was clear today was shit that worked in the championship doesn't work in the prem, a few times Mahrez tried something that would have worked last season it didn't come off. A few times he was too good for them, but really what counts is we can take a lot from the game and learn from it going forwards.

After our horrendous start the only thing I want is that we have confidence going into our run of winnable games.

Agree with this. I was thinking exactly the same thing when Mahrez was taking on his man in the first half, it worked well against teams like Reading last season but unfortunately you could see the step up in class when Azpilicueta read him like a book at times.

Diego Costa, cost almost twice as much as our team today

lol

Kinda puts things into perspective.

It's impossible to judge how our chances of survival are this season after playing the side that finished fifth last season and the team who are favourites for the Premiership.

When we get to playing the 'bottom half' of the table, then we'll know more.

How things look to me, now, are positive. But we do need a bigger squad.

How are people trying to make GTF a scapegoat, and why does it still come as a shock when fans see his waist line. We all know he's tubby and he's not got any pace. He came on and played in a completely different position to what he usually plays against one of the best teams in the world. He didn't do anything to rave about but he hardly do anything wrong for some fans reactions, or to make him a scapegoat.

We have been extremely unfortunate to have three of our four CM get injured with quick succession. I think most of teams in the Premier League would be limited for choices and quality if three of their CM were injured. Yes it's bad luck, but we have a chance to resolve the issue as the transfer window is still open. We would be in big trouble of this has happened in September.

As for Nugent's chances, on another day against another keeper he could have easily had a brace. He got both shots on target and made Courtois make two very good saves, that's why he is arguably the second best keeper in the world.

All in all if we go into every game home and away with the same mindset this season we will be fine and pick up a few wins on the road and have a good home record.

Lets put a few things into perspective.

Nugent

A lot of people on here call the nugent 'haters' for scapegoating him. But in reality, is a player who struggles to score goals in the championship, and a player renowned for needing 3-4 chances before finishing, a good player to rely on? Answer - no.

Performance

Great, outstanding. But, it is far easier to play well in a match when you are expected to get nothing. When the pressure is on us to take points, like against west brom, west ham, stoke, villa, etc. It will be a totally different game.

Popular accounts like Paddy Power & Mirror Football often take the pee
