MozeyCo Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Listen, I know it's late, but what do you remember when it happened? I myself was quite young and didn't understand at the time. All I remember was getting out of school early.
OzFox Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Zingari? Thank God, you're back at last. I didn't even know about it until 9/13 I was on a flight from London to Sydney when it happened, then slept and didn't listen to any news for a couple of days
............... Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was only 6 at the time so don't really remember it. But whenever I watch the the footage of the 2nd plane hitting/ collapse of the towers, I still find it incredible and horrifying at the same time.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Coming back from school on the bus with Radio 1 on. Thought initially they were talking about a new film that was to be released. It was the same day as our first band practice and it now feels so surreal playing Smells Like Teen Spirit whilst watching the tv
Saxondale Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Was a few days before I went to university and I was watching it happen with a couple of mates. One mate was complaining that he was so disgusted by it that it made him feel ill, to the extent that he went to bed for a lie down. We dismissed this as a weird form of hypochondria. Turns out his appendix burst.
Cruss5 Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was on my honeymoon in Greece and we went for a boat trip. I will remember it as i nearly drowned going for a swim. We then got back to the bar and it was on the tv but i didn't really understand what was actually goin on until getting the papers the next day. A couple of days later about 5 or 6 jet fighters flew over heading east. Was all very strange and unclear what actually happened. The scary thing was that we nearly decided on a trip to New York for our honeymoon and would of been there on that day but changed our minds last mnute.
Itsthejoeker Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I remember coming out of school and all the parents looking distraught, mum rushed me home and we watched the towers collapse on the news.
The Guvnor Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was attending a training day at Didcot Fire station, an instructor came into the class and said' I think you had better watch this', turned on the tv and we all sat there in disbelief.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I remember one of the blokes in the office came in and said that it had been on the radio that a 'small plane' had crashed into the WTC. That was a big enough story in itself but the way it all came out over the next hour or so was just surreal. By the time I got home it was just wall to wall coverage of aircraft crashing into buildings. Obviously people are dying in atrocities and disasters every day in huge numbers around the world, but to be presented with that level of death and destruction, in one place, recorded so starkly minutes after it happened was very hard to take in. The other thing I remember was wondering what the buggery would happen next. World War Three? Not quite, just a continuation of the second half of the 20th century trend of starting wars that nobody really wins. In terms of the effect on the lives of the likes of me, the main thing that stands out for me is it marks the point where society went from not giving a shit about Muslims (or even knowing what they were) to them becoming public enemy number one, conveniently filling the bogeyman void left by the increasingly inactive Irish Republican movement. Seems a lot more recent than 13 years ago, but you know TIME FLIES and all that
pSinatra Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Was just a couple of weeks before my 30th birthday & I was at work. We had a telly but it wasn't switched on & unusually the radio wasn't switched on either. Another lad had been working elsewhere & came into the room. After about 20 minutes he goes "oh yeah. Have you heard?". "Heard what??" He says "2 planes have flown into the WTC". We couldn't quite believe he had forgotten to mention it. We put the telly on & watched it all unfold - watching both the towers collapse live on tv. It's still amazing to see the pictures now, but at the time there must have been about a hundred of us crowded around a small telly, watching in stunned silence.
Fox92 Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was at school, too. Was only 9 so I was too young to really understand what was happening at the time. Now though, I just still actually can't believe it happened. There are many conspiracies etc but I can't comprehend with how those poor people on-board must have been feeling/doing.
MC Prussian Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was with the Army at that point, earning my grades as a corporal. We had just returned from a longer driving exercise and had parked the vehicles on the lot and were in the process of cleaning them inside out. All I can remember next is that someone came running over towards us, delivering the news that spread instantly by word of mouth. At first, I thought it must've been a very bad joke. But then we reached one of the rooms with a TV in it and could only watch in awe as the events unfolded over the next couple of hours, our mouths wide open. Regular service was interrupted for the whole day - the whole barracks was in a state of shock.
Dan Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Coming back from school in my Grandmas car. Incredibly we had news during that journey as well that I'd had a cousin been born, we put the radio on and hear that. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 At school feeling sick - went home early and spent the whole night watching it all unfold - was quite young and when it shows the 2nd and hit I initially thought it was a missile - then my auntie told me it was a jet liner and I threw up.
RonnieTodger Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Round my mates house when I was 7. Didn't find out until early evening sort of time. I didn't really understand just how big it was at the time.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Was in Disneyland Paris... strange feeling, thought I was going to die.
AndWhat? Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Got off the school bus and my mum was there waiting for me, she told me 'the twin towers have come down' and all I remember thinking was 'the twin towers were knocked down months ago' I was thinking of wembley.
MozeyCo Posted 13 September 2014 Author Posted 13 September 2014 Interesting thing here, my mom tells me that our local gas stations raised prices so high that they were sued for taking advantage of the public. Everybody was apparently driving away from any big city near
Illusion35 Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was on honeymoon in the Maldives, was surreal watching it unfold in a bar on a desert island! Security in the airports on the way home had to be seen to be believed too, took forever.
leftbackinthechangingroom Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 Was at school I was 15 and the whole thing was surreal. Every time I see the footage it seems like a movie.
Buzzell Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I remember coming home from school and my mum had it on the TV. What a tragedy. I'm so interested in anything to do with 9/11. Every time there's a program on TV about it I always watch it.
Raj Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 was just finishing an early shift at work (1.30pm ish)when rumours were going the radio that something happened...got home at 2ish and all channels were showing it and for the rest of the day..worst was when it dawned it was a terrorist attack...its what everyone spoke about at work for ages as we thought it was gonna be full all out ww3
Ghost Troop Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I was in the sargeant's mess at Bickleigh with a few others when someone came in and told us to turn on the tv. A salty old soul said "this will mean war". For some he was right.
Webbo Posted 13 September 2014 Posted 13 September 2014 I got home from work and was talking to the missus for 5 or 10 minutes about nothing in particular when she said "ooh, have you heard? There's been a plane crash or something in America".
