tickler28 Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 With a massive match on the horizon versus the rejuvenated Man Utd I can't help but feeling that nullifying Di Maria should be one of our top priorities. How can we do this......Cambiasso.....not only does he know Di Maria inside out having been his international colleague but he has the added advantage over everyone else in the PL of having played against when at Inter. Not saying he does an alla Kaamark/Juninho job but he has to be given the instruction to keep a very...very close eye on him and who knows....it may just make the difference!!!
foxfanazer Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 He's bloody quick though. Would be one hell of a task. Think we need to double up on him.
Babylon Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Our secret weapon is Schlupps titanium forehead.
tickler28 Posted 15 September 2014 Author Posted 15 September 2014 Cambiasso is clever enough to know he won't be able to run around after him....great players have other tools in their locker to stop the threat
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 One game doesn't suddenly make man utd world beaters They are still a team in transition
ScouseFox Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 he can join alexis, aiden mcgeady and the rest in paul konchesky's rucksack of terror
Thracian Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 We might do worse than asking Schluppy to mark him. Damned difficult task but he won't either outrun or outmuscle the lad. Any time and space for Di Maria will be a threat because his passing range is so varied and his vision so good.
okie fox Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 'Arry showed us how not to play Man U. Can't sit back and allow them all that room in midfield.
Dan Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 If we stick all of our focus on one player then we'll be picked off by their others. Keep doing what we've done I reckon. They have a hell of a lot of talent but they're far from the finished article yet. I'd say we're currently more organised than they are.
weller54 Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Cambiasso is clever enough to know he won't be able to run around after him....great players have other tools in their locker to stop the threat 12 bore shotgun?
Stadt Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 I wouldn't do anything to stop him specifically because we'll end up with less attacking threat ourself - we shouldn't be a reactive side.
teblin Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 If he plays lefthand side de leat will cope with pace.
LCCFox96 Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Whilst their midfield and strike force have certainly been strengthened by Di Maira, Herrera, Blind and Falcao their defence is still not as strong as others we have faced like Arsenal and Chelsea. We created chances at Chelsea and scored against Arsenal as well as hitting 3 against accomplished defences at home to Everton and on Saturday at Stoke. We are the home team and if we press with the same work rate as we usually do I can't not see us creating chances and with players like Ulloa in their current vein of form I wouldn't mind betting we take one too. We've nothing to fear from them - just play our natural game and we should do well.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Blind is just as important to press, the amount of time he got to just recycle the ball again and again yesterday was unbelievable.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Don't forget that they were playing a team, yesterday, that hardly tried
Kitchandro Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Pearson likes his teams to defend as a unit, as an 11. I don't think he'll stick one player on one man as a man-marker. Players like Di Maria, but not exclusively him, are going to skin our players occasionally, we need to make sure somebody else is on top of them when that happens. We can't afford our players to be too far apart when defending.
yag101 Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 In order to restrict the influence that class players such as Di Maria have on a game, you need to cut off the supply. Miquel is spot on.
MPH Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 To be fair, QPR were absolutley woeful against Man United. They made them look good.
Captain... Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 As Kitch said we need to defend as a unit and protect each other rather than focus on dealing with one man, they have so many players that can hurt us, like Arsenal did, our priority will be to make sure nobody gets isolated. If Cambiasso or anyone else is chasing one man around the pitch we will lose shape. One concern I do have is that against Arsenal we backed off a lot and lined up on the edge of the box, I hope we don't do that against United. It worked against Arsenal as they like to pass and probe and we prevented any openings, but if the likes of Di Maria and Mata get a run at us then we will be in trouble. I saw QPR doing it on the highlights, just backing off and letting them pour forwards in numbers. We also can't dive in like Hammond was guilty of a few times against Arsenal, players like that love to make the defender commit and skin them or take the foul. We just need to keep or shape and keep them honest, make them work hard for everything and when we have the ball we need to keep it, there is no benefit in busting a gut to win the ball back if we are just going to concede cheap possession by lumping it forward aimlessly. Otherwise we will be chasing shadows all game and end up knackered. Cambiasso could be key in that respect by just being a calming influence, taking the ball and keeping possession, dictating the pace of the game and keeping us organised, they are just 11 men and we shouldn't be scared of them.
tickler28 Posted 15 September 2014 Author Posted 15 September 2014 Fair points well made. I see what people are saying. If we are afraid we might as well not show up....that's what Man Utd are hoping for.....Van Gaal knows how important it is to instill confidence and winning ways in his new look team hence his 'We can still win the league' quotes. This is a perfect opportunity to show Man Utd we're not afraid and we're going to give you something to think about as well as hassle and win the ball back in our usual hungry manner. Sod it....let them worry about our own not so secret weapon....Ulloa!!!
fuchsntf Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Let them do the worrying, I wouldnt man mark anybody.1st I was thinking of resting jeff, but Manu's back line can be got at, Vardy also to play, pace and clever balls from midfield will have Blind, running blind. This could be an high scoring draw, or our defence holds firm, and we can beat them on a 3-2 .
Babylon Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Players like Di Maria, but not exclusively him, are going to skin our players occasionally, We should put Schlupp on him and get him to tackle exclusively with his head.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 It'd be great if they did put all their eggs in one basket and think that Ulloa was our only threat. Nuge has done a fantastic job of helping the midfield out so far but I'd love to get Vardy running at Evans / Blackett.
Finnegan Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Can't wait for the first time Di Maria tries to burn RDL for pace and looks a mug. He'll probably then resort to trickery and murder poor Ritchie but I do love that first attempt at pure speed from a rival winger who never quite believes De Laet is going to be THAT fast.
Chug Laguna Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 It takes a special kind of team to put that kind of drubbing on Redknapp's boys. Teams like Man U, teams like Wednesday... Swindon. *shudders*
