Value For Money?

Some of our members have said we shouldn't expect to be entertained at football matches.

I would like to know, if those of the above opinion are to be believed, then just what do our fans pay out a great deal of money for each season?

What do you, as a fan, expect for your money?

I just love going to have a party and a good time, if we win it's even better if we score a great goal it really is fantastic but if we lose I will still have some fun.

That's what i love about football you never know what to expect, you could be in for a 5 goal thriller scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute or a 0-0 draw

You shouldn't expect to be entertained, no. It depends on factors like opposition set-up, weather conditions, match situation- all contribute to how entertaining the match is.

I'm quite happy with the entertainment we've had in recent seasons. Scoring 6 twice, two 5-3 wins, a couple of 5-1 wins and several 4-0s and 4-1s. We had 17 home wins last season plus a 4-3 cup win over a Premier League side.

You will get boring games and crap results but, in recent times, we've had entertaining matches at Filbert Way. I expect the team to try and play good football and take the initiative to the opposition. But entertainment is subjective. We've had 2-2 draws and 2-3 defeats more entertaining than 2-0 victories.

To be entertained but entertainment comes in many guises.

The Man U game was worth the price of my season ticket alone.

Entertained yes normally.

But this season if different the teams we are playing have had 3,4 or 5yrs plus to build there squads.

They have also had the benefit of all the sky money.

We are playing catch up this year and next if we stay up.

To me this season staying up is paramount above anything else.

We have had more years of dross since MON than anything else.

So why would one more season of building for the future be such a problem.

I don't think football is entertainment whereas the cinema, the circus and comedy all are. 'Entertainment' is too light a word to describe what is a very involved and ritualistic activity. It can be tough and even painful to watch at times but it can also send you into ecstasy in a way in which the other activities I mentioned simply can't.

If I had to sum it up in a sentence, the reason I think football shouldn't be described as 'entertainment' is that it's not something you stop going to when you don't enjoy it.

It's part of the whole day, 2 hours down the pub talking football and other pointless stuff, the 2 o'clock Twitter watch for the team announcement, though I hate it they put 11 pictures as it takes a few minutes to identify who is actually playing! Yesterday none of us understood the team selection, however you take the walk to the KP hopeful of entertainment.

I can't imagine the Sunderland game being a feast of entertainment but you never know and that's why we all go.

Entertainment yesterday was Bernie trying to pay less for his half time burger and walking off in a huff when the lady said no!

Even the 2004-2008 era can't remember many stand out games but I always knew I'd be there for the next one, knowing full well entertainment would be minimal!

If I wanted guaranteed entertainment I would stay at home and stick Die Hard on every Saturday afternoon!

I'm entertained even if we play shite. It's different watching Leicester to a neutral game as you'll always be more fixated on it regardless of how crap we play.

For the newbies,i think they think that they should be entertained......but for the majority of fans (like me) who have sat through L1 and countless relegation battles the last 10 year's....It's just Leicester. ;) If you want to be "ENTERTAINED" go to the cinema.

See where DT is coming from, football is entertainment, but it goes deeper, normally support and follow a club for life, good and bad times, and once a supporter, it's in your blood, wether you can afford the time or money to go, people still look out for fixtures, even if we lose every week.

After the deep rooted love for a club, should we be satisfied to not be entertained over a long period of time, no we shouldn't accept it.

Should we accept the people who run and play for the club are human beings, and have ups and down in fortunes, yes we should show some patients, as long as it's not entertaining at any point.

We are enduring a period of time where we are having to endure a downturn in fortune, and poor performances, which to be fair I expected, but what I cannot accept is dire games like the last few weeks long term, I.e not creating much to get excited about, or losing with a wimper.

Whatever your view of wether football is an entertainment service, if we play like we have recently for every game till the end of the season, it would leave a bad taste in your mouth, and you would feel cheated that we stopped giving the season a real go.

I'm not saying that's the way it will play out, just think we will have lots of highs and lows, just hope the lows don't out weigh the highs.

I expect the players to try. That's all I ask for. Nothing worse than a player not giving 100% when we are paying for that.

The rest that comes with the whole day of going to the football is unexpected and I like that. I'll support the club regardless. I've sat through some horrible games - Wolves away springs to mind when we were 3-0 up and lost - but I've also sat through some great games. I've seen some great players, I've seen some great goals. That's just part of supporting a football club.

You go for games like the Man Utd game, so unexpected and so worthy of all the money i've shelled out over the years to my beloved club.

But with entertainment comes a lack of finger nails and many down right depressing moods after a loss.

I pay in the hope that we play good football, win games and have good fans. An excuse to go mental.

I pay for the off chance something remarkable will happen.

Im a huge Leicester fan, and pay a lot of money watching Leicester. Is watching Leicester, or all factors considered, football in general "value for money"? arguably not.

I think the first thing to note would be entertainment isnt the first priority, its professional sport and winning is the priority. If that was to come from some difficult to watch football, then thats an unfortunate side effect. And as discussed before, a game will only be as entertaining as the outlook the two teams go into the game with, as entertaining as the conditions will allow, and whats riding on the game.

Youll always be assured of fantastically entertaining moments and games throughout a season though. Games where gameplans go out the window and its just two teams outscoring each other and giving it 110%. Or entertaining individual moments. Or entertaining fan interaction.

Just like anything else in life. Good days and bad days, entertaining games and dull games. If every game was entertaining, that in itself would become the norm, rather than the peaks of emotion.

If you want footballing entertainment on a regular basis, then choosing any club other than the top 3/4 teams will ultimately leave you disappointed. There will always be good and bad spells for almost every other team in the land, if you can't understand that you would probably be better off reading a book or watching a film instead.

Now that we are forced to sit down I tend to judge a games excitement level on how many times it gets me out of my seat.

That's usually dictated by how many beers I've had before the game.

Interesting responses. Having followed City for 54 years, I just feel the adrenaline flowing, building up and up. We score a goal, all the adrenaline goes, and then builds up again. Concede a goal, and it just goes up and up, like my blood pressure (this part of the game is a health hazard  lol).

It seems that the match day itself, gives us all a "buzz".

I want players that give their all, chase and close down and play like it means the world to pull on a city shirt. Other than that I want to be in amongst a crowd that will sing and chant throughout a match, supporting the team and having banter with opposition fans. If we win then it's a welcome bonus, but the effort in trying to do so is fundamental to my enjoyment of the occasion.

Football is different to everyone, I'm less keen to go now than I was as I'm often disappointed with the games I get to watch, (so far this season it's been Palace and Burnley) and more often than not it's been away games I see us play more than home in recent years, and the atmosphere is generally more to my liking but sadly the results often aren't. I don't mind if there is a lack of quality, I can accept that, but strong work ethic and heart in their performance is a must.
