Nick Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 How can that music still 'get me' after all these years. Bloody marvellous!
Harry - LCFC Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 I think 1-3 are underrated. Seeing the Jedi 'get it wrong' with bad decisions, politics and arrogance isn't nice to see but it's absolutely key to completing the story and makes the other throwing of the Empire that better. It's just a downfall/rise up story but dragged out into six films rather than one.
sphericalfox Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 I am not a Star Wars fan as such, I won't drop everything to watch them if they are on tv, or have the box sets etc, but they remain part of my filmic memories. This despite the utter shite that GL managed to cobble together for the last three. They had good points - the Yoda fight, but GL simply cannot direct. You can see the improvements especially for Empire. From what's available I think a little bit of the grit, and much less of the CGI will probably make this threequel the biggest money spinner in some time, that'll be hard to match. James Cameron is going to be gutted. If the script/dialog isn't horsehite this might indeed not only bring what was enjoyable about the first two, but improve it.

People don't think they're toss films because of some kind of unwavering real-life allegiance to Jedis, you know... I HATED ATTACK OF THE CLONES SEEING MACE WINDU MAKE BAD LIFE CHOICES ABSOLUTELY RUINED IT FOR ME IT WAS HORRIBLE TO SEE WHAT A BAD FILM
MC Prussian Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 Never got into the newer three movies, they seemed to emphasize looks over content, and I still think the original three should've been left the way they were made. This new trailer does a pretty good job at capturing the original spirit. So, there's hope.
Cat Burger Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 Revenge of the Sith is really good, although some of the dialogue is atrocious: ANAKIN: I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over . . . OBI-WAN: Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil. ANAKIN: From my point of view, the Jedi are evil. OBI-WAN: Well, then you are lost! ANAKIN: This is the end for you, My Master. ANAKIN jumps and flips onto OBI- WAN's platform. The fighting continues again until OBI-WAN jumps toward the safety of the black sandy edge of the lava river. He yells at Anakin. OBI-WAN: It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground. ANAKIN: You underestimate my power! OBI-WAN: Don't try it. Who ****ing wrote that and why did they only spend 5 minutes on it!?
Captain... Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 I would love to see 1-3 remade, the overall story arc is great. Evil tyrant manipulating both sides and Anakin in his pursuit of power, the Political machinations combined with awesome space battles. The problem really was the script, the acting performances, and some terribly cliched set pieces. The death sticks, the rolling in the meadow, Noooo! All terrible. Unfortunately I think we will see 4-6 remade first.
Stadt Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 I don't think it helped the newer three that cgi was pretty shit then whereas it'll look fvcking class this time around
Dr The Singh Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 Trailer looks naff, where the Fook is ha ja binks, he made the last 3 films worth watching
Phube Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 It's funny, because all the actors at the time had the same thoughts about the script on the original trilogy: The famous quote being: "George, you can type this shit, but you sure as hell can't say it." You don't watch Star Wars for the dialogue and acting. People seem have to rose tinted spectacles about the original three.
fleckneymike Posted 29 November 2014 Posted 29 November 2014 Sounds stupid but a few of the camera shots don't feel like Star Wars and feel too JJ. That opening trailer shot is not a Star Wars shot, the films dont do 'that'. Abrams has rebooted Star Trek by essentially not making Star Trek films, I like Star Wars films so I hope he doesn't take the easy option of making a by the numbers (dutch angle, flair etc) Abrams film

The original Star Wars movies aren't and will never be renowned for their dialogue. The main pull was always the core plot line, the classic Hero's Journey. Following Luke Skywalker through all trials and tribulations, all ups and downs, until he finally gets what he deserves. Lucas took a lot of other classic movie plots (he watched a lot of Kurosawa, for instance) and put them all together, creating a previously unseen amalgamate in a sci-fi universe.

I like it but that teaser kinda has the feel of a fan-made project IMO.

And yet people moan about the script and acting in the prequels!? I for one love the prequels, not for Anakin's journey, but for the Emporer's manipulation of the situation concluding in Order 66, which was amazing!

The only thing they had in common with the original 3 was the clunky dialogue. I don't expect tons of character development, but the pacing was weird - they were trying to squeeze in far too much, and the films feel like a series of computer game cutscenes thrown together, which of course the overuse of CGI doesn't help. The things that make me a bit more optimistic about the new films are a) lack of George Lucas and b) that story that I can't be arsed to link to on my phone about Simon Pegg telling J J Abrams about how his kid was far more impressed by Empire Strikes back puppet Yoda than shit CGI Yoda, which he supposedly took onboard

Bellend Sebastian Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Well done, thank you. For the record, I think the new trailer makes it look really good. Hope they don't end up showing most of the film in subsequent trailers which seems to be what happens these days
Phube Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Voilà: http://www.hitfix.com/news/did-simon-peggs-daughter-save-jj-abrams-star-wars I thought this was a strange thing for a child to say... and reading that quote confirms it! No child would ever say, oooh slow, crappy puppet Yoda, he's much better than badass, fighting dooku/sidious Yoda! And that piece proves it. His daughter's only experience of Yoda was the puppet, to which Pegg extrapolated his adult, loathing of the prequels into his own conclusion! Very strange...

I think little kids notice stuff like this more than you think. My lad (coincidentally also 3) won't watch the original films because they're 'scary'. He is completely unmoved by the next three - if anything, he finds them even more boring than I do
Phube Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Really? I think little kids notice stuff like this more than you think. My lad (coincidentally also 3) won't watch the original films because they're 'scary'. He is completely unmoved by the next three - if anything, he finds them even more boring than I do Whether his daughter (or any child) would prefer puppet Yoda to fighting Yoda, is just not borne out in that article. And don't forget CGI Elsa/Anna & hand drawn Cinderella/Aurora/Ariel are real to 3 year olds. How can they really know what is real? Your lad's disinterest in the trilogy is probably because the story line of the prequels isn't 'suitable' for a 15 year old let alone a 3 years old. By that I mean that by trade embargoes, taxation routes, intergalactic senate meetings, Machiavellian scheming, 15 year story arcs, manipulation, decent into madness, child slaughter. Not the kind of thing most 3 year old's like! My five year old liked the Original trilogy (not loved), but was more impressed by R2 and C3PO. But was suitably shocked by the 'I am your Father' reveal, also quite impressively guessed Vader would save Luke much earlier then I ever did... I showed her Episode I, and the thing she like best was R2 and C3PO back, little Vader and the Pod racings. Haven't showed her II or III yet because the content get a bit dark (especially III). But I justy did an experiment and asked her who the best Yoda was Ep. I or V and VI. She said V and VI (and informed me he dies in ep. VI so at least she remembers the films). I then just showed her the Dooku vs Yoda fight scene. Her reaction was, and I quote: "Awesome, he is awesome and his light sabre is the same colour as him!" I then re-asked who was the best Yoda? Answer Ep II. Maybe Pegg should try the same thing and see what his daughter thinks again!
