Whether his daughter (or any child) would prefer puppet Yoda to fighting Yoda, is just not borne out in that article. And don't forget CGI Elsa/Anna & hand drawn Cinderella/Aurora/Ariel are real to 3 year olds. How can they really know what is real?

Your lad's disinterest in the trilogy is probably because the story line of the prequels isn't 'suitable' for a 15 year old let alone a 3 years old. By that I mean that by trade embargoes, taxation routes, intergalactic senate meetings, Machiavellian scheming, 15 year story arcs, manipulation,  decent into madness, child slaughter. Not the kind of thing most 3 year old's like!

My five year old liked the Original trilogy (not loved), but was more impressed by R2 and C3PO. But was suitably shocked by the 'I am your Father' reveal, also quite impressively guessed Vader would save Luke much earlier then I ever did...

I showed her Episode I, and the thing she like best was R2 and C3PO back, little Vader and the Pod racings. Haven't showed her II or III yet because the content get a bit dark (especially III). But I justy did an experiment and asked her who the best Yoda was Ep. I or V and VI. She said V and VI (and informed me he dies in ep. VI so at least she remembers the films). I then just showed her the Dooku vs Yoda fight scene. Her reaction was, and I quote: "Awesome, he is awesome and his light sabre is the same colour as him!" I then re-asked who was the best Yoda? Answer Ep II.

Maybe Pegg should try the same thing and see what his daughter thinks again!

I did the same with my 5 year old and the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Her argument that Freddy was much scarier in the first three (the two next were slightly derivative but entertainment nonetheless), she's clear that the rest were of a poorer standard in acting and story, and really Freddy simply turned into a cartoon of his former cinematic self.

lol I wish this was true... (Unless it really is...  )

It's funny, because all the actors at the time had the same thoughts about the script on the original trilogy:

The famous quote being:

"George, you can type this shit, but you sure as hell can't say it."

You don't watch Star Wars for the dialogue and acting. People seem have to rose tinted spectacles about the original three.

But that is why they got scriptwriters in on the original 3, because the dialogue was shit, they made it better, not amazing but passable, with a few great lines. The prequels nobody dared stand up to Lucas and criticise him because of who he was, so they just trotted out shit about midi-chlorians and trade federations and "love".

The dialogue in the originals wasn't Shakespeare, but it was understated and effective, the prequels it was just shit, awkward, unnatural and poorly acted.

Hey, our kids respond differently to the same things.  It's almost as if they're individuals, or something.

I don't think it's ridiculous that children could respond to something they perceive as more tangible than something that's clearly not real on any level at all, even to them.

My kid probably isn't impressed by fighting Yoda as he's seen so much of my rad fighting skillz it's just no big deal

I've always wondered what it was like to work on those films.  You're perpetually working under the weight of expectation of cinema goers, but I wonder if many people saw enough of the end product to get a sense that it was actually a bit shit.

Maybe it was a bit of a Jimmy Saville scenario, but instead of abusing people, George was just making a crap film

I'm not expecting it to beat or match the originals, how could they possibly do that. Not only were they some of the best films ever created, they were new and fresh with effects never seen before and we were all kids, playing with the toys, listening to the story on vinyl with flick books because nobody had video players etc. Everything meant more back then not just films.

What I want is a solid film, no ****ing stupid over the top CGI at every turn. No wooden acting, just a solid film in the vain of the first three.

The shots of the x-wings look flipping fantastic.

You really shouldn't take a 3 year old down the pub with you.

Nobody knows with any certainty if Boyega is a Stormtrooper, though; could be any number of reasons why he's kitted up like one. In the brief glimpse from the trailer it looks more like he's suited up to have escaped to somewhere / avoided capture, to me.

My thoughts exactly

As the article states, all of the original clones would have died out by now, 60 years after the clone wars, when the cloning process was ended, stormtroopers could be just the standard foot soldiers of the empire, but then will the empire still exist, will the storm troopers be the rebels after the fall of the empire.

Or they could even be a new set of genetic clones using black source DNA.

We really know **** all about the who, what and why at this point and anyone getting all het up over a black guy wearing a storm trooper outfit should probably reassess their priorities.

I'm not a fan of positive discrimination and the like but moaning about the ethnicity of a fictional character set in a fictional universe which is set thousands of years ago and created 40+ Years ago is extreme narrow minded.

I don't even want to see what a stormtrooper looks like. What's good about the stormtroopers is that they're all just faceless automatons who have all individuality removed. Perfect for the dark side.

I'd have thought he'll be a good guy though. Chap stranded in a desert looking desperate? Classic protagonist material.

We already know what stormtroopers look like though...

It's been a while since I watched these (that reminds me, need to a schedule another viewing) so I don't recall seeing a stormtrooper with his helmet off.

Are you talking about them all being clones of Jango Fett?

I've got mixed reaction on this, yeah okay the teaser looks good but I just feel Star Wars is kinda old hat now. We had the originals which were fantastic and ahead of its time, we then had the prequels which I do feel gets alot of uncalled for stick but i think there alright for the younger fans that weren't around when the originals were out but I can see why the older fans dislike them aswell. Maybe star wars should be left in the past now, I dunno maybe come twelve months i'll perhaps be looking forward to this coming out.

Yeah similar to me, I think they should have left it but then I will still go and see it and (hopefully) enjoy...

By the way, nice profile photo.

Remember watching The Empire Strikes back with my mum and dad at a Cinema in the 70's in Evington. Going to take my son to watch this.

The red light saber looks the bomb.
