lgfualol Posted 9 December 2014 Posted 9 December 2014 We're so embarrassingly out of depth in defence. I don't see this as a confidence improving signing. It's all good we've got Upson but he's probably a great grandad by now.
ALC Fox Posted 9 December 2014 Posted 9 December 2014 I think Nige has actually got a decent record when it comes to signing centre-backs that will improve the team. Obviously the jury is still out on Upson through no fault of Nige's. But Tunchev, Morrison, Hobbs, Brown (I'm defending his ability to help get us into the Championship playoffs here, not his political persuasion!) and Morgan have all contributed positively and been successful during their relative periods at the club. So if this Cook chap is good enough for Nige, then that's all that matters to me.
Ric Flair Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 January is horrible at the best of times but when you're fighting to stay up with a club that isn't yet established then it's brutal. Whatever we do simply has to work, I'm not resigned to relegation but it does look quite likely. Pinching some of the Championships best players isn't the end of the world as it's proven that PL players don't necessarily shine when relegated. I am hoping for a miracle. Our best bet is some players on loan like Scott Sinclair, Kone and Zouma
J.Lisemore Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 The attributes we need in our new Centre Back are; 1. Experienced. 2. Tall (and quicker preferably). 3. A brute who isn't afraid to get his head in where it may hurt. 4. A Natural Leader. Curtis Davies. I actually think he'd be a good signing, although not much chance he'd come. Unless he's out of contract this summer?
ADK Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 Trouble is, Liam Moore looked good in the championship where the standard of opposition was unable to exploit his weaknesses. There aren't many defenders who are good enough at 23 to jump straight into the lions den so to speak. We just need a defence that is reliable and makes the opposition earn their goals. Like Walsh and Elliot were. For me a left back is the biggest priority followed by a striker. I actually think Wes and Was are good enough but another back up defender would be handy.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 If I was him I wouldn't leave for any of them, would be surprised if 2 of the 3 teams he's linked with don't go down come seasons end. Probably got as much chance being in the prem next season with them than any of us or the other 2 teams. Plus if they don't go up and he's still impressive he'll be snapped up by a promoted/bottom half club anyway, but hey, money talks.

I'm biased of course but I think the long term prospects of Leicester City are better than bournmouth
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Completely agree, but from his point of view, move to a team who might/likely to get relegated or stay with one who might go up, and if not join a team for a definite full season in the premier league come the summer? Seems the sensible option.
SecretPro Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Why are we ****ing around with signings like this? Dilge, absolute dilge. We are Premier League. We need Premier League Players. ****ing Bournmouth? **** off.

Buying back up players is not the answer. We did that in the summer ant that is why we are in this fvcking mess. Any purchase has to be first choice first team player. Strengthen the first team you strengthen the squad buying a substitute gives you fvck all.

Babylon Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Why are we ****ing around with signings like this? Dilge, absolute dilge. We are Premier League. We need Premier League Players. You do know that everyone playing in the premier started somewhere else at some point don't you? You get better value by picking them up before they become premier league players. It doesn't matter what league he's currently in, what matters is he can perform. We need a calm head and someone he can command the box, if he fits the bill then so be it.

That may be, but we have a squad full of those players and it clearly isn't working so i'd say we need to be buying proven premiership players to address the balance? No?
Babylon Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 That may be, but we have a squad full of those players and it clearly isn't working so i'd say we need to be buying proven premiership players to address the balance? No? No we need to buy players who are a better quality than what we have now. They don't need to come from the premier league. The lad could be the dogs bollocks for all we know. I know what you are saying, safer bet to go for players already performing in this league, bit it's not a necessity so long as he does make the step up, some of ours currently haven't but that's not always the case. Plus premier proven quality players will be much harder to come across in January, especially if we don't have an open book policy. You'd end up with fringe players like Albrighton, who might not actually be much better than what we have as well.
Clever Fox Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 The lad is a good player but it just demonstates (if true) the standard of player we think are a viable option at this stage of the season. Why don't we just throw some cash at a top class defender from Germany or Holland or France or somewhere with renowned tough big commanding defenders? I know we, more than most, are aware of the irregularities of spending badly but we are in the Premiership... Players all want to play in this league given half the chance! I Totally agree. There out there you just have to search and find one. Look at Dijk for Celtic a strong commanding CH. We also need a similar player for midfield. If only big Was was younger and had the legs. He can't be intimidated, he's also strong commanding and can play a pass. This is exactly what we need in January. If I were NP I'd be looking at the African continent where many of these great players have come from.
