Crystal Palace are involved in a three-way fight to sign Bournemouth defender Steve Cook.

The centre-back, who is valued between £2million and £3m, has been a key figure in the Cherries' Championship campaign, which sees them third in the table, two points below leaders Derby.

Palace boss Neil Warnock is keen to sign a centre-back in January although with Bournemouth going so well, they are likely to do everything they can to keep Cook at the club.

Palace, West Brom and Leicester have been following Cook's progress closely and are ready to make their move when the transfer window opens next month.

Cook, 23, has made 21 appearances this season and will fall under the spotlight later this month when Bournemouth take on Liverpool in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals.

Underwhelming if this comes off. As above we are crying out for a very solid premier league centre back, in reality we will probably end up with Alex Bruce.

The amount of people who would defend that signing would be ridiculous.

At least we're not in the Championship worried about whether we'll be able to keep our players in the January transfer window.

That's a real positive that is. It would be great if people came in for our players now so we could replace them with improvements!

Not saying he'd be bad, but would he be good enough right now? Can't say how good he is, but he'd have a lot of the problems our current lot had I think.

The lad is a good player but it just demonstates (if true) the standard of player we think are a viable option at this stage of the season.

Why don't we just throw some cash at a top class defender from Germany or Holland or France or somewhere with renowned tough big commanding defenders? I know we, more than most, are aware of the irregularities of spending badly but we are in the Premiership...

Players all want to play in this league given half the chance!

amazed anyone's ever seen him play more than a handful of times yet still know he isn't good enough

Seen him play a couple of times but Bournemouth were dominating and he didn't really have anything to do. Haven't seen him do much defending let alone being under the cosh for 90 minutes like he will be if he comes here.

Good championship defenders, exactly what we need more of.

.... for next season?  :xmasunsure:

The attributes we need in our new Centre Back are;

1. Experienced.

2. Tall (and quicker preferably).

3. A brute who isn't afraid to get his head in where it may hurt.

4. A Natural Leader.

£10 - £15 million

One of my friend's is a season ticket holder at Bournemouth, he says that Cook is brilliant. Probably would be very good in the future alongside Liam Moore. We should make a bid for Callum Wilson too while were at it...

Agreed mate but it is definitely what we need to spend on a transforming influence (could probably get away with half to 3/4 of that) - Leo is at least matching his market value in part for a Premier League debutant.

Can't do this league on the cheap as we are finding out!

One of the best centre backs in the Championship, but as some have said already is he a player we need right now, probably not.

But when your looking for Prem experience there is very little we could realistically get, unless you get someone young on loan or try for Chris Samba.

Players may want to play in the PL we couldn't entice to come in the summer, I'm sure we would have tried so why anyone thinks they'd come now other than for over the top wages that would need to be better than more established PL teams can offer.
