Shaun Maloney Wigan - Deal is OFF

He also helped this happen...

WHAT A BALL!

Our corners have also been pants this season. Ok I see were NP is going with this one. I also can't remember an in direct free kick we've scored from this season

we've not scored direct from a free kick in a while

We haven't but only through bad luck. Mahrez has smashed the woodwork direct from a free kick twice in his last three matches.

Grewks you've had an absolute mare with that too flight thing - and without even getting into the fact the SPL is being held up as the barometer for top flight players, which sounds like the logic Craig Levein used to fill our squad with proven top flight players.

Looks like NP has been working with the stat boys and we need more quality service from set plays.

Maybe. Still think he's seen a decent squad player up for grabs for a decent fee.

I have a hard job envisaging Maloney starting ahead of Mahrez, Knockaert or Schulpp.

This signing does little for me and I think we could do better but at the same time I can see the benefits of signing Maloney. His PL experience, technical ability from set pieces and relegation battle scars are all something which enhance the squad at a reasonable fee. I wouldn't say I'm excited about seeing him a Leicester shirt but its not something to grumble about either. Mahrez, Knockaert, Schlupp, Albrighton and Maloney are a set of wide players capable of helping the team stay in the division.

And?

It's not like it's your money, is it?

I, for my part, am going to sit back and relax and let it all unfold for the second part of this season.

This whole "but we spent money on an unproven striker" is getting really tedious. Because it's not entirely true. Alright, the Croatian league isn't a good comparison and not very highly regarded and he's not played Premier League football (d'oh), but he's been hailed an exceptional talent and has shown he can cut it on the European stage. He's at the right age and can only improve from hereon.

Show a little faith.

Are you serious? Show a little faith??

I, unlike a lot of people, fully back the signings of Maloney and Kramaric.

The spending £9 million on an unproven player was a comment to question the individuals who are delighted at the signing of Kramaric, who is, lets face it, unproven. But were then disappointed because we haven't spent another £9 million, but instead acquired a very experienced scotsman capable of creating and scoring goals at this level.

Why are you disappointed we signed maloney?

please don't refer to maloney as a wide player.

If we end up playing him there, we may as well not have signed him.

He is a number 10.

Another with selective reading i see......

I said Maloney was proven Premier league.....not just proven Top flight.

Which is a bit daft really given he's spent about 2-3 years there of a 15 year career and hasn't held down a regular starting spot in a team that didn't get relegated.

Strange one given his best days are clearly long behind him but Nigel must see something he can add to the side. Imagine he'll be a last 20 minute option.

similar to when we signed Phillips this time last year, if he turns one close game (Leeds away) into three points not one, then scores just one important goal (Bournemouth away) to get us a few more points then it's superb business.

As usual the fee is different depending on which media source you read but if up to 1.1m which the Telegraph are reporting is correct then it's great business for us.

Probably the main player to that run where we beat everyone in late 2011-2012 and an FA Cup winner of course but since we were relegated has contributed nothing at all. He still does well for Scotland though which made it all the more annoying. Personally I think his best days are past him and considering he was out of contract in the summer and we still managed to make a profit on him we had no choice but to sell.

If he recreates the form he showed for us in that run we went on though which I'm assuming is what Pearson will look to him for, then it could be great for you. He's a fan favourite though for his exploits in the past and will see him as a fond memory when we're back in League 1 next season.

Good luck to you all for the rest of the season.

If he can get us a couple of goals/important assists between now and the end of the season then well worth a £1m fee.

Grewks is absolutely spot on so I'm unsure why others are digging holes in trying to argue with him.

Maloney is a creative little number 10. He'll clearly be fighting for a place against Nuge just behind the front man.

I'd be very excited by this signing.

Fook me your easily pleased!!! :D

Is he really that much better than we have?

Doesn't Kramaric play a similar role though or are we intending to play him as the front man?

Who knows? Wouldn't be surprised if we had UlloahvKramaric and NugentvMaloney with Vardy as back up?

It's all guess work I suppose.

It's about adding something different for me with this one and supplementing what we have. You look at all our wingers and each of them bring something different to the table. We're not really in a position to be buying players that have everything in their locker, so it makes sense to do the same with the other positions.

Whether it's in the AM in a 5 man midfield or the No. 10 role of a 4-4-2 he brings experience of this level, an attacking intent and good technical ability. Along with of course set pieces which are generally woeful (although that's partly down to how we attack them... or don't attack them as the case may be).

Just because Wigan are where they are doesn't really mean anything. Some players perform under certain managers and within different team set ups and tactics. If he doesn't fit into their style of play, doesn't mean he can't bring something to the table for us.

Well said that man. Maloney will be the bollocks.
