Shaun Maloney Wigan - Deal is OFF

Underwhelming.

Not exactly ever been his biggest fan and now he's 32 and struggling to hold down a place in a side that's second bottom in the Championship I'm even less so. They must of pissed themselves laughing when the bid came in.

Still low cost low risk I suppose.

And yeah that blokes right he was originally a winger and Grewkes is (shock horror) horribly wrong, although I wouldn't argue that that'd be his strongest position these days and I think we've clearly intentions of playing him behind the front man not out wide.

Just out of curiosity did your uncle who took you to your first Leicester game move down here to Thringstone? The place is crawling with jocks lol

Braunstone, but to be fair, there does not seem to be a whole lot of English folk there either. lol.

Good bit of business I believe, always thought he was under used at Villa at his brief spell there. He's definitely got a good shot on him and probably perfect for what we need someone in attacking midfield right behind the strikers acting sort of that third striker.

Really? It's probably the most English part of Leicester.

At worst, this is a depth signing for a player who's obviously not averse to sticking with a team should Leicester get relegated. Good price, good buy.

It will be interesting to see if he gets through his medical. Maloney has had fitness problems throughout his career and spent most of last season injured. If the medical and fitness staff put him through his paces and he passes the test then I'm all for him signing.

Before I give you my thoughts on this (potential) signing, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I'm Scottish,I was raised as a Rangers fan but got tired of the bigotry that came with going to Ibrox. When I was 14,I was taken to a Leicester game by my uncle who moved down there and have not looked back since.

With this in mind,I can tell you straight up that Shaun Maloney is a left footed winger. He may have been moved to the #10 spot by Wigan in recent times to suit their system but he IS a winger.

You may call it "Digging a whole" but it's more a case of me watching this whole guys career. I watched him break into the Celtic team as a winger,I watched him play on their wing when he returned,I watch him regularly play on the wing for my national team (he plays on the right for Scotland with Anya on the left and Naismith in the #10 role. When he first moved to Wigan,he played on the left, hell, he played on the wing for them last weekend.

Apart from anything, have a look at our team. We are on the verge of signing a striker for 9m to play alongside a striker we signed for 8m. We have Vardy,Nugent and Wood to back those two up and at the same time we are short on wingers, especially left sided wingers. And with Shlupp and Mahrez away for at least a month it isn't hard to see that we have signed him to play LM.

The fact that you seem to think you know better than someone who has watched the boy for his whole career is laughable.

As for my view on us signing him, I think it could be a decent buy. Not an exciting signing buy any means but at that price and a decent wage,it is most certainly low risk. He would also offer something we don't have, a threat from set plays as well as consistency in his deliveries. Granted he has a knee made of Lego and can blow hot and cold but I would honestly play him over Schlupp every day of the week.

I reckon that this is a decent signing, and if it's not,we are hardly breaking the bank.

As interesting as this story is I fear it wasn't really necessary. The first and second paragraphs of my post were not linked.

I'm happy to bow to your greater knowledge in relation to his position although I do think he had the attributes of a decent number 10.

The point I was making about people digging holes was in relation to people arguing that kramaric isn't being hyped based on hope rather than knowledge unlike with Maloney.

I think this could be a nice bit of business, people keep on going on about him at Wigan when I doubt if any have watched him play a full game for them this year.

However in the euro qualifiers for Scotland, which most probably have seen, he has been quite decent, playing in all four games with two goals and an assist. Would have preferred Anya but hey in Nige we trust.

Except he's not Left footed?

Definitely right footed...

I want to know what Flair thinks about us being linked to Maloney. Hasn't he mentioned him before?

He's the pits mate!!

Signing of the season, mark my words.

Bold statement. Definitely has something to offer, but surely Kramaric has got to be for laying down a benchmark for the prospective future?

Extremely unfair. How do you get Maloney and the club never bought me Koumas? Pricks.

Hahahahaa I can't believe it's happened, I've wanted this since 2003!!!

Scary.. But we haven't signed anyone yet.. Kramaric deal not finalised.. Nor Maloney!!!..

Poor Mark Schwarzer.

Kramaric has basically signed. But, you know, any excuse to get at the manager and you'll take it.

at the end of the day it's what, 750k/1mill? come on, it's not like we're some disgusting poverty club like burnley, 750k is pocket change to us, if he's crap we'll live with it, if he does one thing decent all season he's worth 750k. nige knows this and knows the score.

Considering the wide players we have in the squad/available right now I think it's a decent signing if it happens.

Might not be outstanding every game but will put in a decent performance when needed - bit like Kevin Nolan does week in week out
