You can't make that kind of tackle nowadays.
Stoke is still an important game but it now won't be completely terrible if we don't beat them.

Great today. Should've scored more. Knockaert fantastic, whole back 5 superb.

No comment on james or anything at the end, didn't really see any of it properly. Anyone get a replay or two and wanna pass comment?

Massive win today as the gap between us a safety gets smaller once more. Another solid performance with chances being created and the work rate being exceptionally high. Defence held strong today and was better from everyone. James' red card was deserved imo and put a bit of a dampener on the day, particularly with Cambiasso and Drinkwater being out. Should have won that by 2 or 3 in all honesty though. Nugent and Lawrence both had good opportunities to score.

Most impressive aspect of todays game was the way the back line handled to offside trap, which has caught us out in the past, and caught a number of their attacks offside relieving the pressure on us. Though Knockaert was excellent today and man of the match for me.

Taking the player afterwards is inevitable if the player is committed to winning the ball - It's hardly an argument for it being a foul.

Mate his studs went down the players leg following the tackle.

If that's the case, then surely it would be ok to take the ball of a player and swing an elbow after too then?

Oh and here's to Spurs shitting on Palace and we might be off the bottom of the table tonight which will be another morale boost for sure.

Look at it again: His studs aren't up, at least no more than in any other tackle (you've got to have them showing if you tackle, you can't do anything else), he doesn't go off the ground, he doesn't go in with both feet, he doesn't scissor him. It's a strong but fair tackle.

Might as well ban tackling then. You can't not take the man if you make a challenge where the other player is committed.

Welcome to 2015!

No this was good we only won 1-0. If we had won 4-0, players might of got too cocky, with this they realise there is still a fight

to win, and battles ahead.

Well done defense, well done Knockhardt and Albrighton.Hamer put in a good shift aswell.

MON...Villas goalkeeper by a mile...lost my stream a couple of times, so always difficult for whole game assesment.

Intentionally? No, and I didn't see anything like that - he went through the ball. So that's pretty irrelevant - he didn't pull out of the tackle, neither did the other lad, and if he caught the lad afterwards it's a little knick which James couldn't have avoided and is due to their lad falling rather than anything james did.

No. That's an absurd comparison and you know it. It is fine to follow through on tackles - pulling out will only risk injury. If taking the ball because neither pull out of the challenge is a straight red offence, you'll see 4 reds per game.

Welcome to 2015!

Still ridiculous. Tackling is an art, and that tackle was a masterpiece. Fair and strong.

no its not. His eyes were on the ball, he got the ball and its as simple as that. It'll be appealed and rescinded.

I've not even seen the tackle but it's never as simple as that.

It's not as simple as "he got the ball" because you can be cautioned or dismissed for a tackle if you are reckless or use excessive force, respectively.

The happiness and relief on the players' faces at the end was great to see as well. Confidence is clearly rising again now that we're finally being rewarded for our endeavours with points.

A bold one, but I can see us being out of the bottom three next week given the respective fixtures of the clubs around us.

Burnley v Palace

QPR v Man United

West Ham v Hull

Everton v West Brom

Yes it is lol If you "win the ball" or touch the ball first, but in order to do so you have lunged in dangerously and inevitably going to go through the rubber bag of air into your opponents leg would you think that is acceptable?

Knockaert, Albrighton and Wasyl were beasts. That's how you play for your shirt. Vardy and Lawrence were an embarrassment and Nugent cannot miss chances like that and get away with it.

Massive win.

Vardy's in serious danger of falling out of contention at the moment, especially if we get Okazaki or Defoe as well.

Not what I said is it? In any challenge where both are committed, the one who wins it will inevitably take both ball and man. Winning a tackle is not a red card offence because someone else tried to win it.

Hamer.. Hasn't conceded a goal in open play for FOUR matches... Awesome!!

Has he had a shot to save?  :D

Take another look at our next fixtures after Stoke especially Feb.

3 points against Stoke then some hard fought draws are a must.

Burnley, CP, QPR, WBA will pick up points, this season maybe another 38-40pointer.

At my bias best I see us, only getting 44pts.

We're gonna finish the season unbeaten.

Absolutely gutted to have missed the game today due to problems with the trains out of London, nowhere near as fun watching the game online! Plewe cased with our overall performance, wasn't a classic by any means but this could be our most important win of the season; really think this well set us up now for having a real go in the second half of the season. With a bit more quality in the final third we could have scored a hatful. The defence deserve particular credit for dealing with everything Villa offered; both Was and Morgan were imposing physically and put their bodies on the line!

The great escape is well and truly on!

Only thing I can say is watch the replays mate.

Initially I thought it was just a strong tackle, committed tackle- which is good to see.

But his trailing foot does go half way up his legs with his studs which wether you win the ball first or not you can't do nowadays.

If it was the other way round I'm sure we'd be saying what a dirty cvnt their player was and that he could of injured James
