narboroughblue Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Not the best game for the purist but a great result. Can see why we are chasing forwards so much as these 1 0 wins are great but shouldn't be that close if we were better at finishing our chances. Bit sloppy passing at times but work rate all round was fantastic. Villa like Newcastle last week were very poor but who cares you still got to beat those teams. Bring on Stoke. Final word the fans were fantastic especially second half and great so see the players enjoying the win with the crowd at the end.
funguseater Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Hopefully this will keep the Konchesky knockers quiet for a bit....
Tielemans63 Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 great point...the lads who come in have tskrn their chances well. Hammond too is very underated Agree completely about Deano. I'll hold my hands up, I didn't think he'd be anywhere near good enough for the prem but he's done well every time he's played.
Tielemans63 Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Hopefully this will keep the Konchesky knockers quiet for a bit.... Credit to him for today but I'd still like to see us sign another LB.
ealingfox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 What an absolutely shite side, fanbase and Club Villa are really.
Steven Posted 10 January 2015 Author Posted 10 January 2015 http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2014-2015/form-table/full form has definitely picked up Before we get carried away Stoke are ahead in that table.
FrankieADZ Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 thought we played quite well....Villa are right crap mind. kinda disappointed we didnt win by more...
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Hammond for some reason makes the midfield seem more solid. He does alot of good work and we seem to get better results with him in the team. As i said he's underated The reason why he's 'under-rated' Raj, is because you rarely see Hammond do tricks, fancy flicks, 40 yard passes or score goals. But he does what he does WELL. He breaks up atttacks, wins the ball, shields the defence and mops up. Every team needs a grafter like this. He's pretty much worth his weight in gold and again, we look a STRONGER unit when we have a more mobile midfield. I don't think Hammond gets anywhere near enough praise. Why? Because he aint a world-renowned name and he does his work quietly.
theessexfox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Woooo well worth the trip today. General performance was good, let them dictate play too much in the first 20 but picked up thereafter and started to have chances. Nugent should have took one or two or his clear chances (would Kramaric?) and his volley was excellent, later on James was unlucky with his header, Albrighton had a good effort saved and Lawrence had a few good opportunities to get a shot in. We needed to kill them off, with 15 to go after squandering so many chances I was filled with dread, could only see a 1-1, we needed to put the game to bed. Having said that Villa didn't create a clear cut chance, we were defensively solid, had some good moments and spells in midfield and looked a constant threat going forward. We were by far the better side, and our support was excellent. Huge result that, need to build this run further with a result against Stoke.

As i said he's underated Hammond and James were complete bystanders at times, hence Villa having about 60% of the possession. Villa had more time on the ball and got more space, luckily they didn't take advantage of it because they were that shit. Hammond was slow on the ball, and negative in possession sometimes very wasteful.
iamafox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 We deserved the win today, no doubt. Could have been made to pay for our missed chances but luckily with a shit side like Villa they were never going to capitalize on them.

I know it's pretty common knowledge you don't really know anything about football but to say Hammond was poor is an insult. If anything it was the decision to go 4-4-2 which let them have the most possession but when you see how poor they were with it then it was a great decision all round. Hammond and James were top notch today, had to do a tremendous amount of work whilst being outbumbered and clearly if you're only interested in the stats then you're always going to miss the actualities of the game. Smarten up chap.

Yes mate, he does. Though having seen both play, he's not in the same class as Lennon. I think Pearson has realised how important Hammond is to us this season. A surprising (maybe) example of a player who has adapted to the higher level, when lets be honest, he wasn't one of the ones that most thought would.

I'd totally agree that he's not as good and never will be as good as Lennon, I only compared the roles they play. I really didn't expect Hammond to be anything more than a reserve this season.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 2nd half performance almost worth the admission price I'd say. Despite the non-prem standard players we had on display today.
RowlattsFox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 We do need to be better in possession, didn't matter today in the end. Hammond does a good job but I wouldn't be against an upgrade on him with a similar type.

Smarten up chap. I thought Hammond was outstanding against Liverpool, but today I didn't think he was that good. The centre of midfield especially first half wasted possession far too many times, Villa had space in the centre of midfield endless times, but they didn't do anything with it because they were that shit. Our brave and smart defending saved us today, because at times our football from midfield to attack wasn't pretty. I've liked Hammond this season, but I think he has been much better in other games, especially partnering King and playing in a midfield three.
Fiume Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Congrats ! You were by far a better side, impressive defensively, hardly put a foot wrong at the back and completely frustrated Benteke. Good midfield performance, nice skill from Knockaert, but I liked Albrighton even more. Definitely can see Kramarić helping you already against Stoke, he would made much more with those chances that Nugent had. Onward !
Happy Fox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Forest lost again today, I thought they were odds on for the title?
MHC Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 It's typical that the teams around us seem to be also hitting a bit of form just as we start winning and getting our share of luck in matches. Having said that, over the course of the remainder of the season I can certainly see us being better then at least three teams: Aston Villa - they were awful and deserved to lose today. They can't score and seem to have no attacking instinct and I think they will be in trouble this season. 18th. Hull - they are too inconsistent and are at their worst more then they are at their best. Undoubtedly they have a talented squad but I think they might be the unfortunate sufferers of second season syndrome. 19th. QPR - I genuinely can't see them staying up. Their defence is too leaky, sure they create chances but Charlie Austin won't stay in goal scoring form all season, even the best strikers have dry spells and Austin isn't even in that bracket. I think with them it's a case of 'when' they cave in as opposed to 'if' they cave in. 20th. And as for the rest of our catchable opponents: Burnley - they will come unstuck sooner or later because they just aren't good enough for this league. Their players give their all and fair play to them but they can't get away from the bottom 5 or so at their best and when they do have a run of bad results they won't be too far away from relegation. 17th. Crystal Palace - I don't think Crystal Palace will get relegated, Alan Pardew is a good manager and will get them over the line but they certainly aren't out of our reach. 14th. Sunderland - the fact that they are a hard team to beat will save them, but they are gonna be right down there. 15th. I think the rest are un-catchable. Make no mistake that this is our mini league for the rest of the season and we are more then capable of winning it, I'm going for us to finish 16th. There is only 5 points between us all.
Thefoxman Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Tunnel cam.....knockaert only person that looked well happy with the win! keep him in nige he could be the diffrence. http://bit.ly/1w7HBOr
Salieri Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Good result and whilst Villa were shit going forward, I thought we coped exceptionally well defensively which was pleasing. Played the offside trap to perfection. Huge game against Stoke now which could see us rise out of the bottom three with some very tricky fixtures on the horizon. I've always thought if we can keep ourselves from being adrift come April/May we WILL stay up, compared to most teams we have a relatively 'easy' run in. This window is key too and we have already shown our ambition with the imminent signing of Kramaric. Fair play yet again to the owners for backing Pearson, looking like it may pay dividends.
