Matty James' Red Card

Recommended Posts

Personally I think it warranted a red. Studs were up. Seen reds for less.

Admittedly it wasn't the worst tackle that's ever seen red.

But it was a red card tackle

I didnt think it was a red card until I saw the replay where it looked like his foot went over the ball so can understand why it was given....didnt need the afters though as could have been a yellow without Villas response....glad to see Clark go though :)

studs slightly up - not sure how you can slide like that without them being up and gave the ref a decision to make. Usual sportsmanship in football and the rest is history.

Personally think the tackle or barge in the back from Westwood was far more cynical

Good tackle, clark clearly the aggressor in the hand bags... Should have been the other way round - straight red for clark (if you look, he nuts james as he picks him up) and a yellow for James for his part in the fracas.

So that leaves us with.... Andy King as the only fit and available central midfielder lol

Drinky was training at end of the week so think he will be fine for Stoke....wondering whether we go to appeal the card so the appeals process means James can play next week possibly?

Are we likely to have any of the others back by next weekend like Drinky, Cambiasso?

It was a red card.

But a well earned one. Stopped a counter after he lost the ball. There was a little break and the clock practically ran down.

Like the guy. Has guts. Need that in the middle.

If Nugent wasn't so thick giving the ball away it'd never have happened.

This.

Anyway I haven't seen a replay, but at the time I thought it was a good hard tackle to win the ball, followed by that Villa **** squaring up to James who tried to back away.

If that's a red card then the famous Vinnie Jones tackle on Steve McMahon is a red.

If that's a red, Steve Walsh would have been suspended every game.

Etc etc.

Red was justified and as tripe said, it slowed down the game and prevented them pumping the ball back in. No point in appealing.

Drinky was back in training towards the end of this week, Hammond only looked like a muscle twinge so I'm guessing he might be available, Cambiasso likewise, King is obviously fit and capable.

If it's absolutely necessary, could we see Knocky play centrally, or even Nugent (I know the diamond generlly doesn't work for us, but a 4312 maybe?).

We've got options, at least...

Thought it was a red for the afters not the actual tacker

I'd imagine if it was red for afters. Clarke would have got the same. He only received a second yellow, so I'd imagine it was for the challenge.

Clark went in with is elbow after the James tackle.  Straight red for both.  I can see why James lost it though because the elbow was just not needed and clark being a prat

Did think it was a fair tackle on first viewing but from replay can see that he has committed a strong tackle tacking out their player off the ground with studs.

Good to see a committed tackle but unfortunately those days are gone now so defo a red in today's game
