artursteppe Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 A team full of wingers. It must be a fetish or something. Currently trying to make Vardy into a winger, Mahrez, Knocky, Schlupp, Albrighton, Lawrence and now maybe Lennon, Nugent could still be adapted and Richie and maybe Kramaric. Bring Tom Hopper back and we've got eleven!
Ric Flair Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 My patience with the man has ran out. This season has been a joke. Money was there all along and he's tried to blame Terry Robinson but the likelihood is he's been far too loyal to the players who got him up and we've paid the price. The gamble backfired, our confidence and winning mentality was lost and it's probably never to return under this tenure. He's had a mare this season. Prat

Prat He's never blamed Robinson as far as I am aware. The aim this season was 17th just over half way and we are 3 points from 17th with a favourable run home. Some people need to get a grip of reality.

He's been gotten rid of as someone had to be held accountable for our poor season. Even if this isn't the whole truth, please explain why Pearson hasn't improved our defence which looked ordinary at times in the championship last season. There's been money there all along. He honestly thought our squad that got us up was good enough and it's clearly not been.
Aus Fox Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Can you think of a player available he could have signed?
Mark_w Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Even if this isn't the whole truth, please explain why Pearson hasn't improved our defence which looked ordinary at times in the championship last season. He has.

For me the recruitment this season has been miss managed, what little we have signed have had very little improvement on the side, and we only seem interested in signing attack minded players. You right the defence has been suspect for years, and everybody knew the defence wasn't good enough, but we only brought in an old crock in summer and Simpson who is a slight improvement on de-leat. Another window and still no sign of us being interested in a left back, rather play a player who hasn't got a left foot, or a left back that hasn't got a clue. No matter who is responsible for our transfer policy, they haven't done a very good job

I'm not sure how anyone can argue against what you've been told as you do have inside information, the rest of us are none the wiser. I don't agree it's been embarrassing or as pathetic as many make it, quite frankly it's what I'd expect. The only real surprise for me this season is Burnley who have, with their squad, over achieved already. At the end of the day we haven't humiliated ourselves, we've been competitive and we're still firmly in with a chance of survival, especially with how the likes of Hull and Villa are imploding (now supporting them must be hard, especially with the base they have in place). If we go down so be it, we'll have a squad and manager who know the division well and are capable of getting us back up.
5waller5 Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Can you think of a player available he could have signed? No. Kind Regards, Nigel Pearson LCFC Manager

Not money willy nilly but spend big if needs be. Yet we've not improved the spine of our team. We needed a leader at centre half with PL experience and a central midfielder who was going to be the first name on the team sheet. Cambiasso doesn't seem to be managed overly well by Pearson. He's in and out with no real plan. Drinkwater has been massively disappointing and I imagine Nigel thought him and James would shine this season. I'm just frustrated as there's money there and we've left it too late in my opinion.
Babylon Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 I've been told otherwise. He's been gotten rid of as someone had to be held accountable for our poor season. No offence but this "agent mate" has proved several times to be full of shit if that's where this is coming from again.
lgfualol Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Shame the players haven't repaid his faith, but it's quality that is the issue. It is weird because before the season we had a "vastly superior" team to Burnley, yet their players that haven't got the quality work like mad men. I realise there is 3 points between us but still. It is rabbits in headlights every week for some of our lot, especially our defence that can't hoof the ball upfield quick enough when they seem someone running towards them.
ithuriel Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 I like Nige but he cant be defended on this season thus far, 4 league wins from two thirds of the season is poor and everybody was laughing at Burnley and QPR preseason for various reasons but we are below them all. People blame refs, bad luck, ifs and buts etc., but in truth we fully deserve our position, having had a better Championship team and having some money to spend and more time than QPR to prepare we did very little, if we were looking at another team who had done this we would be taking the piss like anything out of them. Still hoping things can turn around but deep down, it is getting to that point when you know it is all over and it is just about pride not wanting to be bottom at the end of the season.

There's been money there all along. He honestly thought our squad that got us up was good enough and it's clearly not been. Perhaps because the defence isn't as bad as people make it out to be half the time. Some terrible glaring errors aside we rarely look like getting ripped apart by most teams. We've conceded 5... yes FIVE less than QPR. A team who most people on here were bumming in the summer for some of their signings. Caulker for one. Burnley have conceded more and they had a better defensive record than us last year. Newcastle only two less, Everton and Palace three less. We are there or there abouts the others in terms of goals against. We are as well for goals for, but you take away the anomaly of the Man U home game and it highlights a serious problem in attack.

I'll agree with that, we lack a leader, Wes doesn't talk and I think Cambiasso while he's a great from a tactical view, doesn't have the ability to motivate those around him. Huth may be a solid addition. Not saying this is correct, but my view on the Cambiasso situation is that he's being rested for the final run in, I'd expect to see him play Palace fully fit, and then to be pulled from games such as Arsenal, Man City etc. Pearson stated before christmas that he would have to be careful with him and I think there were times toward November and December where he looked well off the pace. As for James and Drinkwater we all expected them to shine, yet maybe we get carried away with last season. I'm frustrated as well but at the end of the day, if we go down, it'll happen and I'd be sure we'd bounce straight back up with a better base in place.
LCCFox96 Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 By 11pm tonight we'll be able to read more into Pearson's plan for survival. With the players brought in today we'll be able to see the full extent of our January dealings and until then their is no point bashing Pearson for signings he may or may not make. A team full of wingers. Fabricating things a bit here: Tom Hopper is not here and plays as striker - thats 10. Vardy, Nugent and Kramaric are clearly going to operate as strikers within team - thats 7. De Laet is going to play at right back or left back - thats 6. Lennon hasn't yet been confirmed and may not sign - thats 5. Lawrence was recalled seemingly as cover for Mahrez and Schlupp (at the time) who were due to being going to the AFCON and will likely go back on loan once Mahrez returns - that's 4. So not really a team full of wingers. Its frustrating that some defensive reinforcements have not arrived but Huth looks imminent and there is still a day left to add this much coveted left back.

I don't dispute there's a problem in attack but I simply don't accept that that's where the root of our problems are. We don't know what's inside Nigel's head but the way he sets his teams up and his transfer targets are usually forwards based. Yet you can't play attacking football without a strong core protecting you. Konchesky and Morgan have made far too many mistakes this season as has young Liam. Those defensive errors have nullified any attacking impetus we've had in certain games. Look at Liverpool, errors costed us at home in a game we looked like we could win if we had all our team performing in sequence. Drinkwater has been shocking, the most disappointing of our players along with Vardy. The two who we thought would step up haven't and Pearson not pre-empting that is his fault as you need to be proactive. We signed an injury prone centre half to supposedly improve our defence. No left back when Konchesky had shown last season he was erratic at best. Cambiasso was a dream for most and he's done well at times but he's not our heartbeat that we needed. For us to stay up we have to battle and scrap for everything. We can't be having 3 or 4 passengers like Vardy, Nugent at times and Andy King. Matty James has to come back in with Cambiasso or Hammond and play out of their skin. I commend Nigel for bringing Huth in but the real managerial decision is if he dares drop Morgan. He's made a lot of mistakes, cut that out and we've more of a stability to build upon. Today is going to be a panic. Seldom do bottom of the table clubs make shrewd purchases that work out but we've little choice I suppose. I can't blame Pearson for not strengthening and he criticise when he does, albeit in a late and fraught fashion. Truth is I'm not enjoying this season, it's been horrid and I'm running out of patience.
Babylon Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Truth is I'm not enjoying this season, it's been horrid and I'm running out of patience. Well I think it comes down to you expecting to much. I was expecting it to be very hard and for us to be in with a shout of just staying out the bottom three, which we are. If we'd not given a free kick away against Burnley, or Wes hadn't headed against Cambiasso against West Brom, or any number of official decisions had gone our way, we wouldn't currently be in the bottom three. Even if that was the case , it wouldn't suddenly make the season any better or worse than it has been for me. I really have no idea what people were expecting. Way too many people getting carried away and saying we'll finish in the top half etc, all of whom massively underestimated the league. The manager has made mistakes, there will be no manager alive who could come in here and not have people moaning at him. O'Neill was still getting shit from the stands after winning us a few cup finals.
Matt Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Right I wanna go on record as supporting Pearson as I always have, that said his time is running out and I'm starting to question a few things. Lack of signings and failure to strengthen the team in summer I can understand, I had faith in these players, I thought these players would step up, I thought they were good enough for survival at least. I was wrong, I can't then slag Pearson off for obviously having the same faith and thoughts about these players, that said even if they did live up to what I've said above we could always do better, get better than what we already have. Now, this transfer window, we're half way through the season, we're bottom, we're struggling and the players we have aren't living up to expectations and aren't good enough, Pearson's done not a lot about it, I can't really justify that, I can't really stick up for him. Ok it's 'proving to be difficult bringing players in' but I'm sure he could do much more.

We've all hoped for me, and for all we know we've been very close to several that haven't come off. But that can't all be leveled at the manager when there are so many people and so many factors involved.

Konchesky was getting ripped by Championship wingers at times last season. It's not all his fault, but it is Pearson's that only now, are we spending money when it may be to late. By all means have faith in your players, but not to improve the starting eleven from last season (Ulloa aside) or even buy, for example, a back up left back is nothing short of negligent. I quite like him as a bloke but it's been a strange way to carry on when there is so much money riding on staying up. It has made no sense whatsoever.
