dorsetboy Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 the thought of playing defensive 5-4-1 for the rest of the season and hoping we get one chance and not make any errors in the game is one that bores me actually if were gonna go down lets be remembered for being the team that gave it a right good go with attacking entertaining football id rather go down like that than watching boring 1-0 losses ==========================hamer============================== ===========moore===========huth================waslawski======= albrighton============cambiasso=======james================schlupp== ==========================mahrez============================= ==============krameric==================ulloa======================
Itsthejoeker Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 I don't think the 5-4-1 was intended to be defensive, it was to encourage our full backs to attack more without the worry of needing cover, hence the extra central defender.
Ian W LCFC Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 I somewhat agree with you, however if we go with 3 at the back it may see us get spanked a couple of times.
fleckneymike Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 How about we just settle for fighting each other?
Kitchandro Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 I don't think the 5-4-1 was intended to be defensive, it was to encourage our full backs to attack more without the worry of needing cover, hence the extra central defender. But that makes no sense considering Konchesky and Simpson are both slow and not really attacking full backs at all. Whatever logic Pearson is using, it's shit.
Donut Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 We are going down fighting. Literally. In the stands.
SecretPro Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Think it's important to at least try and play positive attacking football no matter what against the next 3. No point sitting back.
jammie82uk Posted 16 February 2015 Posted 16 February 2015 Think it's important to at least try and play positive attacking football no matter what against the next 3. No point sitting back. I agree lets do something a little radical like going 3-4-3 we have nothing to lose sod this five at the back malarkey
dorsetboy Posted 17 February 2015 Author Posted 17 February 2015 i dont think 5-4-1 was meant to be defensive but it has been as we always tend to sit back and with this formation we are going deeper and deeper with no outlet many times we had the ball in our third and there was only krameric as an outlet and when he got the ball he had nobody to pass to ? its plain to see konch is to slow and simpson and de laet are liabilities along with swarzer and morgan so lets just get rid of the lot in one swoop . thats why i suggested a 3-4-1-2 with james and cambiasso just sitting in front of the 3 at the back . then with schlupp and albrighton power down the wings we might actually get some good crosses in for ulloa and the mahrez with his trickery and passing ability would be ideal behind the front 2 for threaded through balls and also taking free kicks i know some might disagree but nugent links the middle and strikers up nicely everytime he has played that role and mahrez has a much better final ball than jeff so maybe mahrez on the left and nugent behind the strikers and drop moore and move jeff to a left cb for his power and pace
Torten Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 It's very hard to define "go down fighting". I don't know how different it is from just going down really and when all is said and done, this time next season, if we're in the Championship, I sure as hell won't care at all if we went down fighting or not. We'd be down - which is more than enough to feel upset about.
SeattleShane Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 No point playing 5 at the back because we will still concede a goal. Then we are playing catch up and always seem to fall short.
Bayfox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 How about we just settle for fighting each other? thats a given.
Vlad the Fox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 Whatever happens we need to stay behind the team. Regardless of your views of the manager or certain players, to start barracking and booing them from the stands will turn the atmosphere toxic which could affect them negatively causing some to go hiding from the ball or be too scared to play positively, once that happens we're finished. We're not finished yet so let's not make it difficult for the team to play. If you feel that you have to boo at least save it until we're down. Many people stated they would have been happy with 17th at the start of the season, how was that to happen? Race to 40 points then lose every game? Seventeenth is still well within our reach, to finish there we were always going to have some terrible form, as it doesn't look like the manager is going anywhere all we can do is to continue to back the team. The support has been fantastic this season, let's continue to be so, at least we can say we've done our bit. Up the City.
Callabinho Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....go down fighting? I've seen more fight in a nun.
Spanner73 Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 There will be no fight and hope under this guy get rid now we're going down as it stands anyway so why not change it now give warnock until the end of the season something may just kickstart them after hearing the same drone voice for too long I've thought about this many times now and its ok saying stick with him he's the best there is but the most important thing here is that there is no guarantee we'll be back it may be years away you just can't take that chance I'm supeised the owners haven't sacked him I don't know any club around the bottom three who didn't make a change let alone bottom of the league I can't believe he's still here !
Silverdaz Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 But that makes no sense considering Konchesky and Simpson are both slow and not really attacking full backs at all. Whatever logic Pearson is using, it's shit. He is using defensive fullbacks so Mahrez and Schlupp dont have to do there defensive duties as much
cullenfox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 There should be no question of us giving up now. We can still get into 17th. We must keep faith in the manager and the players until the end of the season. We can still stay up.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 There will be no fight and hope under this guy get rid now we're going down as it stands anyway so why not change it now give warnock until the end of the season something may just kickstart them after hearing the same drone voice for too long I've thought about this many times now and its ok saying stick with him he's the best there is but the most important thing here is that there is no guarantee we'll be back it may be years away you just can't take that chance I'm supeised the owners haven't sacked him I don't know any club around the bottom three who didn't make a change let alone bottom of the league I can't believe he's still here ! And when I thought the Pearson out argument was sounding a little convincing you come up with this tripe to convince me otherwise. You want to replace him with a man who has NEVER kept a team in the Premier league before?

inckley fox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 I've said for a while that Pearson needs to draw on whatever motivational qualities he might have - something we've never seen much evidence of from him - if we're to get out of this. I honestly believe that, in this respect (among many others), he needs to discover a side to his management skills that he's not previously manifested. At times the players seem lacklustre and unmotivated, there have been too many occasions when - in a promising position - we've just rolled over.
yorkie1999 Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 Every game should be played like a cup game. No maybe not, coz we're shit at them too.
inckley fox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 5-3-2 a far better set up. 5-3-2 enables you to switch to 3-5-2 seamlessly if you play attacking full backs (so, De Laet and Schlupp rather than Konchesky and Simpson / Moore). And if you need to go 5-4-1 it doesn't require a huge tactical shift either, just take off a striker for a full back, advance Schlupp to the left wing, push Mahrez out to the wing. It's a very flexible formation and you don't lose the battles in the centre of the park. It also enables us to avoid depending on our biggest achilles' heels (namely our full backs). It can be either offensive or ultra-defensive, and if you've got mobile, defensive-minded midfielders (Cambiasso could be a question mark here, but James could well be suited) then you'll be able to use them to cover for our wide players and allow Schlupp / De Laet to get forward more. Not a million miles from what we did under O'Neill! (Guppy and Impey going forward, Lennon and Savage covering behind). I thought it was a big shame that he didn't tweak the 5-4-1 on Sunday in this way (adapting it to a 3-5-2). When we have huge tactical shifts between and during games it more often than not seems to backfire, especially when players are already struggling to get used to a system.
inckley fox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 Plus, when 3-5-2 didn't work for us before it was because we played two full backs out wide. With Schlupp on the left, and a big man in the middle to receive the early ball, we might fare better.
