Rob1742 Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Sunderland is a dump but some parts are ok Some parts are excellent. One of the best hotels in the UK (Seaham Hall) is close by, well worth stopping there with the missus if you have some dollar. A stunning hotel, one of the very best. If you are looking to stop over and Seaham Hall is too flash, The Marriott at Seaburn is excellent. Nice hotel on the seafront, loads of restaurants close by and an excellent beach, amusements for the kids. The Roker hotel is great for a drink. Really nice hotel bar, proper pub bar, but on the sea front over looking the sea. About 5 miles up the coast is the Marsden Grotto, which is a pub built into the cliff, so you are basically drinking in the cliff, with rocks over your head. Not been in this one for a few years, so don't know what it's like. Sunderland town centre is awful. Not dissimilar to Leicester, but Leicester has the highcross, which pitches it above Sunderland now. If it's food you want, and are staying the night, Bellinis on a housing estate or a The Shagorika on the seafront or Gabrielle's are worth a try. It doesn't sound nice, but get away from the centre and it's a decent place
Guest bss9401 Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 I think Sunderland and I think of them beating a big club in the 1973 FA Cup. That bigger club was Leeds. I think of some roker roar of the 1950s that my dad told me about. Since being a successful club there has been Portsmouth, Southampton, Bolton, Burnley, Villa, forest, derby, Wigan, Preston, Blackpool.. the list goes on for average and small clubs who may never get the chance to be a real contender again. Look at recent decadws; no one gives a fig about North East football and only think of Newcastle as being big enough to warrant such aspirations.

A lot has changed over the last few years - apart from Church Gate and Belgrave Gate its actually quite a nice city. Well _nice_ might be stretching it but certainly one of the better city centres in the UK these days.
BrummieFOX Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Didn't realise we were taking so many to this. Over 3,000 apparently. I thought it was more like 2,500 for some reason. Should make a good racket. Is there consensus on a pub yet?

Totally agree, Leicester is now edging Sunderland, with regards to the City Centre, due to recent developments. However, I know both areas well, and for those that are slating Sunderland and the surrounding areas are wrong to do so, when Leicester is pretty similar. Similar as in, mainly council estates, a City Centre that attracts the poor, some decent surrounding areas. Easy to slate another town, but when you live in Leicester, you want to be careful before you slate. Its like telling someone they are rubbish at football when you have a wooden leg.
Number 6 Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Kasper Was Huth Wes Albrighton Drinkwater Cambiasso Schlupp Mahrez Vardy Ulloa Go out to do the damage in the first half again. Later on introduce Hammond to sure up midfield or King if we need a goal. Would also like to see Kramaric get some game time. I think we're better than these but would be content with a point.
Beliall Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 got to be a defeat. we never do things easy and needing something from QPR is how we will go into that game. i hope i am wrong and we **** em right up
Guest Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 As I've said I think we'll beat sundeland handily but maybe the Hull result will be as big this weekend. If they lose we're almost there, whatever we do.

foxfanazer Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 If we win and Hull lose we are definitely safe aren't we?Yes. Basically if Hull lose we stay up
kingcarr21 Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 If we win and Hull lose we are definitely safe aren't we? If we draw and Hull lose we are guaranteed safety. If we both lose then we will be 3 points clear with a better GD. (providing we dont take a hammering off Sunderland). So realistically if Hull lose then we are pretty much safe.
Corky Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 If we win and Hull lose we are definitely safe aren't we? We have to better Hull's result to stay up this weekend. Just hoping Spurs want to end their home season on a high and bounce back from the defeat last week.
Fox Ulike Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 If we win and Hull lose we are definitely safe aren't we? Yup. Or Newcastle. If we win and Newcastle lose we're safe regardless of what Hull do.
The Guvnor Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Really can't call this one at all as there is so much at stake, with our incredible run we should rightly be favourites but who know's what will happen? If we survive we have massive potential for investment with our current owners and out of all the clubs battling this out we are probably unique. Since their promotion Sunderland have pretty much always languished at the bottom of the Prem and regardless of how big a club they think they are, they do not have the financial clout to do anything but that. It must be a delight to suffer the stress of fighting for survival every year, have to say they seem to have a charmed life as far as survival is concerned but are they achieving anything ?
MikeyT Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 So nervous about this one. They are on the back of a couple of good results. Going to be hard game. I back us for the 3 points though. I reckon a nervy 1-2. Vardy and Cambiasso with the goals.
FOXES-BROWNBOY Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 COME ON U SPURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reckon a nervy 1-2. Vardy and Cambiasso with the goals. I'm sure they'll be far more fearful of our recent form. Can definitely see it being a scrappy one but our superior defence should see us through
fuchsntf Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 If we win and Hull lose we are definitely safe aren't we? Safe, hell No !!!! That we would mean we will have suffer another season in the English Premier league, We have to suffer comments how our small city and club should not be mixing it with big clubs, We have to prove and earn the right to compete with the X-men of football. And if thats not then enough, How our manager must stand up to hardheaded media, who like Little pekingese dogs ( not real dogs from rumania) can yap all day long about nothing, not forgetting the small minded fans, who are only fit enough to fod, then the footballers you have to strangle to keep them from attacking one from behind. Why...its even worse than 'The Spanish Inqisition' ( sorry just a minute there are some spanish at my front door). Safe god No ,...but I will love every single minute win or lose of it and pray we stay unsafe for many years. Correct me if I am wrong, but its called entertainment at its sporting, maddening, crazy, frustrating beautifull best.
biggs Posted 13 May 2015 Posted 13 May 2015 Excitement wise, much prefer to be us than West Ham, Palace or Everton right now even if it means my nerves are on edge.....actually i kinda like the feeling not knowing we're safe as every touch of the ball by either team could change the game in a second. If it goes down to the wire, next week will have this forum buzzing with scenarios of crash and burn or last minute escape. The match thread will be a must read
