Sunderland away...... this is it!

Won a few titles in the 19th Century and they think they're massive. Wow.

19th Century ffs. I'm sure you wouldn't get Preston fans going on like that.

Sunderland is just an irrelevant town in the north east overshadowed by the wonderful city of Newcastle. It's the equivalent of Coalville to Leicester, by that I mean its a crumbling tip site full of inbreeds and ugly people. Fat people in wheel chairs and teenage mothers with no teeth. You get the picture.

So are we safe IF we win and Hull fail to win or newcastle lose?

  • Hull:

Bettering Hull's result will see us mathematically safe.

If we both win then Hull will need to beat Man Utd & hope we lose to QPR & there's a swing in goals towards them

  • Sunderland:

Beat them & they will need at least 4pts from Arsenal & Chelsea away & if level on points with us a swing of 9GD & that's IF we lose to QPR too

If they beat us however, we'll be relying on Hull not beating Spurs, or Newcastle to QPR to keep it in our own hands on the final day

For us to go down it will take a combination of results, which individually aren't that unlikely

It's quite possible our game vs Sunderland will be a dire, cagey game like Burnley which could have gone either way, and it's equally possible Spurs keep trying to duck the Europa League and their inept performances continue giving a desperate Hull side a win.

You guys need to relax we will be fine. 1 positive result out the last 2 games will be enough. Spurs will smash Hull anyway. Also another thing to think about. Steve Bruce has NEVER beaten Man Utd in his managerial career so even if Hull beat spurs its still a massive ask for them to get a result against Man Utd and overtake us. The players wont let it slip now we will go to Stadium of Light and get a good result (a draw is still a good result). I reckon we will be safe on saturday anyway as i think Hull will lose to Spurs and be 3 points behind with an inferior GD (if we lose). I reckon every fan at the Sunderland game will be celebrating when they see Spurs have smashed 5 past Hull and we draw.

Beat Sunderland on Saturday and we are safe. Draw on Saturday and that is a positive step towards safety, keeping a relegation rival at bay. Lose and we have another chance against QPR to pick up the final 3 points we likely need for safety.

The chances of going down on 40 points are very slim as Hull can only reach just reach that total with a maximum points yield, with a currently inferior goal difference. One win and we should be fine, lets go all out to get that this weekend. Such a performance, in our recent form is not beyond us. We've pulled through tight, cagey games recently against West Ham, West Brom and Burnley so there is no reason we can't do so again.

Throw the form book out of the window. This will be cup final/Derby like. A big first twenty minutes for both teams. We go for them puts them on the back foot and their fans give em shit. If they get any positive reaction early doors, then their fans will be with them.

I really don't know which way it will go. That's my head saying that rather than my heart.

Personally I would prefer Sunderland to stay up rather than Newcastle or Dull. But they were lucky last Saturday, and if we go at them like we did against Swansea, Newcastle or Southampton, we could easily get a couple of early goals. If that happened, Sunderland could crumble, as they have shown on three or four occasions this season. And that might be the difference between the two sides: this season, City have never let their heads go down, even when (as against Liverpool and Spurs away) we went two (unlucky) goals down.

It's also worth noting that Sunderland's fans are even less patient with their team than our fans: if they did go two goals down inside 15 minutes, the stands will start clearing and the remaining fans will start giving their players all sorts of grief.

Imagine coming on another teams forum, giving it all the biggun talk then acting all shocked and slagging everyone off when they bite and abuse you. How odd.

He was run out of town.  lol

Sunderland fans certainly have "Napoleon Complex". They seem absolutely desperate to be acknowledged as a big club. It's both sad and hilarious at the same time, a pathetic bunch.  lol

Lived up there for 3 years, unfortunately.

I never got this infatuation with the North East thing.

Durham aside...beautiful City

Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesborough, Darlington etc...are all pretty grim places IMO.

With what's at stake for both teams, I see our game ending in a tie. Can't see Spurs losing 3 in a row at home and expect they'll take Hull deeper into relegation. Southampton won't lose 3 straight to relegation teams. QPR with some respect after that 6-0 drubbing will secure a tie at home v Newcastle

If all pans out, we are all going to have a great week

Newcastle is actually a pretty nice city. In no way is it comparable to the others in the list.

From the Sunderland forum:  lol

My sons school received 50 free tickets last week, the headmaster was handing them out to patents in the school yard on Fri. Can't be the only school.

'Headmaster' = Adam Johnson.

Northumberland has some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.

Having lived in Newcastle for a year, it's a much nicer place than Leicester.

Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Darlington aren't great but from my experience they're all much friendlier than most places in the UK.

I'm sooo nervous already for the weekend we should do it... Looked earlier and we have Martin Atkinson as the ref... I'd take a draw as don't think hull will get much more... Either way let's be loud and proud and give everything we've got get the points and have a party next weekend at home [emoji5]️

No, I never really go that either mate.

Northumberland (Northumbria?..I never know which) is too bleak, rugged...it's cold!

Newcastle always seemed the same to me.

And the seaside towns are similar too.

Seahouses, Whitley Bay etc..

Remind me of Morrissey...'in the coastal town, they forgot to close down'.

I personally prefer Norfolk and Norwich to Newcastle and Northumberland.

Just feels warmer. Though, of course, the scenery nowhere near as dramatic.

Sunderland is a dump but some parts are ok Roker+sunshine+130802+13.jpg

lol

We often used to drive over to Sunderland beach when I was at Durham. Let me tell you, back then, even the beach was rubbish.

It looks better now to be fair.

It's unlikely we will score 2 early goals again for a third successive week. I'm going for a Sunderland win 1-0.

Yes I've always been a miserable pessimist.
