His agent seems pretty unequivocal that he's not playing in England if he isn't playing for Chelsea, so we can tie a knot in this one surely?

People saying he was class at Chelsea must have been watching a different player to me. He was what he was - a strong, dirty player with little technical skill. He suited Chelsea but he was hardly a top footballer. Scored a cracker in one game that people remember.

Of course he was a top player! There were few, if any, better than him in his position during his prime.

That video proves he scored many more cracking goals than that one against Barcelona.

Always liked him when he was at Chelsea but he's only made 20 appearances for AC in 18 months so he's obviously not as good as he was at Chelsea.

Different type of midfielder to what we have at the minute so wouldn't mind see him come in, as long as it isn't as a replacement for Cambiasso.

Brilliant about 5 years ago. I read somewhere he liked to sleep 14 hours a day to aid recovery.

Not sure he has the legs for the game he was renowned for

Panathinaikos, Essien expected Monday in Athens: possible closure of the deal, the latest

After a year with the Rossoneri with a few lights, Michael Essien , midfielder Milan , he is ready for a new adventure. His contract expires on June 30 and the player is reflecting on the future. On the plate there is the concrete possibility of a transfer to Panathinaikos , greek club with which the negotiations would be at an advanced stage. Essien, in fact, is expected on Monday in Athens, where the company will evaluate his physical condition: in the event of a positive response, the parties may define the final aspects of the deal before closing the contract. A new adventure on the horizon, Essien evaluates its future. Panathinaikos is waiting for him in Athens.

Very reliable source, broke the Kramaric news.

yeh i use that excuse too

I got the impression a lot of his game was based on physicality and mobility, 2 things which invariably take a hammering in your 30s, not to mention after a couple of serious knee injuries.

Would steer clear personally but in Nigel we trust.

sense at last from the main sense of the form well don ttfnz

Di Marzio is not very reliable and did not break the kramaric news. In fact right to the end he was still saying we were just getting him til the summer in some weird shady deal where we had to sell to Chelsea. All because they wouldn't have been able to loan him out.

He doesn't strike me as a Pearson player. Hasn't he got a shocking attitude? He's refused to play for Ghana twice didn't he? As good as he is I think he would spoil the dressing room.

I'm glad Schlupp refused to play for Ghana this season, with that injured/not injured scenario, Giggs, Terry and so on and so on the reasons for not turning out for your country are numerous without having a shocking attitude, especially in African football where things don't always run smoothly

Don't know if there's any truth in this or how good he is now but some of you are really playing down what an incredible player he was at chelsea

Again, I do trust Nigel (I'm not making that mistake again.. )

BUT, at face value, I don't think I'd go anywhere near Essien. Surely he's had his best days and, like others, I think the physicality that was his prime attribute, has left him to some extent.

I think we could do better? (Now watch us sign him and he have a great season...)

I think people need to show a bit more faith in our scouting. If we want him it will be because he's shown he is capable In the stats.

Cambiasso as one of our oldest players still covered more ground than most of the others in each game.

That's not to say it will work out, injuries can happen which at that age you might not recover from. Look at Upson!

I don't believe we just try and sign names, but people who can still add something!

I don't watch much Serie A football, what makes you think that 'the physicality that was his prime attribute, has left him to some extent'?

Is it an assumption or have you seen him play recently?

So true. Can't think of many that they've got wrong. I for one have full faith in our recruitment policy and can't believe how many times people have to have egg on their face before they are accept it too

They've got quite a few wrong to be fair but most clubs scouts do.

Regards Essien, I doubt he'd be a mistake. A friend of mine is a Chelsea fan and according to him he was always seen as a positive influence on everyone around the club and a model pro.

These sorts of rumours combined withe the Cambiasso signing last year remind me so much of how Bolton were under Allardyce signing Djorkaeff, Okacha, Campo, Hierro etc.

Its a good blueprint.

If true then Camby is certainly leaving

Also NP would never take a washed out wage whore unless he still had something to offer.

Cambiasso and Essien aren't really similar players so I don't see where you're getting that from. Essien is more like James in terms of the dynamic box-to-box play (although at his pomp, far better), so I'd expect more that James is out for longer than we were expecting than Cambiasso is on his way
