Babylon Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 We dont know that the owners don't have a list of candidates who they are approaching as we speak and as I've already said it's been just over a week. If Pearson had resigned because he'd found out the owners had a list of replacements the people on here complaining that the owners haven't planned would be accusing the owners of treachery. Sigh. No we don't know, which has been constantly said. No they wouldn't, because you'd be open and upfront about your reasoning to them. Just as Southampton are doing a great big article about how they do the same thing.
Bettsj2 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 He would have known as early as February (if not earlier) that he was walking on thin ice from an owner's perspective. Which makes the alleged, 'I had no idea there was a problem' statement laughable.
Guest MattP Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 That flat cap and moustache combo that Burrows had was fantastic. How he got away with it still astounds me, no one since Alan Ball had pulled that off on the touchline.
Babylon Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 You cant always plan ahead.. you just don't know what was said between the Thais and Pearson... for example, If i had gone to be my boss and called him f this and f that, i could expect to be out of a job immediately.... Wether thay had a replacement lined up or not... Of course you can. All people are saying is that they hope / want them to be thinking about potential replacements well in advance. That could be for a sacking, or for them being poached. It could be 5 years down the line, but it's better to be prepared than to be caught out. Maybe we have this time, maybe we haven't. But if us going for Hiddink is true, I'd say it's highly likely they haven't because he's very different from the successful template set down under Pearson.
Darkon84 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 That flat cap and moustache combo that Burrows had was fantastic. That was sublime!
fuchsntf Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Its sorted...........!!!!...new manager...... We are doing it co-op style, all the squad and staff get a turn, everybody is responsible. Fan of the month has a turn.. We dont need any particular Individual.
Webbo Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Sigh. No we don't know, which has been constantly said. No they wouldn't, because you'd be open and upfront about your reasoning to them. Just as Southampton are doing a great big article about how they do the same thing. But just look at the start of this thread. People were saying that the owners only sacked Pearson because they'd always wanted Hiddink and he'd just become available. It was a done deal, a stitch up. That was the reaction to assumed forward planning. Now the same people are complaining that there isn't any forward planning. We all know what's going on here. Pearsons been sacked, the owners are being blamed and whatever they do or are rumoured to be doing people are going pick fault with it. It doesn't make it an intelligent argument though and I'll continue to point out flaws in it.

I'd love to manage the team against Man Utd - can try out my new 1-0-9 formation with all the new strikers.
Footballwipe Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Well clearly somebody has forgotton the days of Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart. Don't forget the dream team of Dave Bassett and Howard Wilkinson, too. Undefeated in their four games in charge, which no-one can argue with. Who says managerial teams don't work? Hard evidence right here.

If Pearson had resigned because he'd found out the owners had a list of replacements the people on here complaining that the owners haven't planned would be accusing the owners of treachery. It is pretty standard to have succession planning in place, one would assume this would be a heightened priority given what had happened. It would be silly for a senior manager to be annoyed that there are such plans in place.

It now looks like total imcompetence as they have sacked Pearson because they wanted Hiddink without actually bothering to find out if Hiddink wanted the job. It's like getting rid of your wife to run away with the girl next door before you've even asked her out for dinner.

Pearson sacked.... couldn't get close to his wage demands

MC Prussian Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Which makes the alleged, 'I had no idea there was a problem' statement laughable. I don't think he was being serious in the first place.
Merging Cultures Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Yeah, but lets be honest here Pearson could be silly. Yeah, my next sentence was along the lines of... if he got fired because of his son... then he is the type of silly person who wouldn't understand succession planning...
Soar Fox Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 It's like getting rid of your wife to run away with the girl next door before you've even asked her out for dinner. lol I was having a bad day at work until I read that. Least it cheered me up.

Bettsj2 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 How he got away with it still astounds me, no one since Alan Ball had pulled that off on the touchline. Having Taggart as a henchman added to its mystique.
Jattdogg Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 This thread could be a solid 35+ pages of wasted yet intriguing banter

The idea that you think every last eventuality is looked into and countered for within the realms of a football season is quite frankly laughable.
Webbo Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Can I just point out that Pochettinno left Southampton on May 27th 2014, Koeman was appointed on June 16th 2014. That's 20 days( and there was a lot of speculation leading up to Pochettino's resignation as well), so far we've been looking for a manager for 8 days.
Frank to be Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 This whole "we should have been keeping tabs on managers" thing is hilarious. The owners have actually been criticised for supposedly doing exactly that in the past. Now they're being criticised because they supposedly aren't doing it. Make your minds up lads. But that's no even what's hilarious. What's hilarious is the fact that there's about 180 clubs in Europe who might fancy themselves an attractive proposition for someone like Neil Lennon, for example. If all 180 clubs operate this supposedly sensible method of succession planning by contacting Lennon every month then that's six conversations Neil Lennon has to have every single day. How long, do you think, before managers just say "when you've got a job to offer, then call me, until then leave me alone"? I'd say a matter of hours on day one.

It's like getting rid of your wife to run away with the girl next door before you've even asked her out for dinner. Why would she run away with the girl next door and why would want to have dinner with girl before they run away?
