Have you seen him out and about Rincey?
bald reynard Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Football Oranje (Dutch football website) says he has turned us down.

Babylon Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 I actually feel relieved if he has... until I see who takes it no doubt

Webbo Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Southampton actually have a plan. Southampton are already scouting their next manager should they sack their current one, or should he get poached. Southampton's scouting departments etc are Southampton's, they do not come and go with managers. They get managers to work within their framework. We.... well, we let good managers go (twice), sign up shit managers (twice), panic and cancel sacking / re-hire the good coach (twice). They sack someone half way through preseason after already signing players for the past manager. I fear... we don't have a Southampton style plan. What does that actually mean, scouting their next manager? If they lose their manager they'll have to recruit whoever is available or is willing to leave their current job the same as any other team. They might think we wouldnt mind so and so if necessary but how is that different to anyone else?
Mike Oxlong Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Sort of story that you want to come out when you haven't been offered the job after days of media hyping it up
J.Lisemore Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Marcus Christenson @m_christenson 10m10 minutes ago Guus Hiddink not taking Leicester job, says well-informed @VI_nl: http://bit.ly/1MecJWd #lcfc Good. Hopefully we've dodged a bullet, he'd only come here and spend our budget on any tom dick and harry, we need somebody who is going to be here for the long-term. Not a Sven double who treats us like a game of football manager.
joshjana10 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Not really, we were doing great under Pearson, he comes in and turns us to shit in a matter of weeks. The whole season we were on the back foot because of him. He made Sven look a good manager. sousa came in and wanted to bring a different dimesion to a squad who did not have football minded central defenders at the time, for as much as i loved the morrison hobbs pairing it wasnt ideal for the sousa style so he brought in moreno and vitor who needed time to settle and in the championship you just dont get that time. i admire sousa as a manager but it didnt work for him here with the players he had inherited

They might think we wouldnt mind so and so if necessary but how is that different to anyone else? What do you think it means? It means they are actively tracking half a dozen people they like the look of constantly. They have already done the due diligence on then in terms of their teams style of play, their personality, whether they can work in the saints style framework etc. They don't wait until they sack someone to start drawing up a list of names with a 5 man committee. We don't know if we've done that or not just yet, our past record isn't exactly great though is it. This sacking has clearly been not some sort of long term plan.
Bagworthblue Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 if this is true though, we may have been waiting on him hence the 'silence' during this period, prelim talks may have taken place with alternatives but at the very least, alternatives will have been drawn up. potentially now (again if true) the situation will pick up pace. The clue may have been when Ranieri put his hand -in. There will be a lot of discussion in the management community - 'you gonna take it Guus?' nah - you interested?, 'maybe dunno - need to think about it' etc etc sounds crass but it will be going on to some extent as managers do talk to eachother. when did Klopp say premier league - it's just a phone call away? - was it back in June before the Pearson sacking , since turning down Wham or since the Pearson sacking? I know he alluded to keeping a secret only last week. if he has turned this down old Guus, then Ranieri along with Di-Matteo, O'Neil or dare I even say it without being chastised, Klopp may enter the true running. Guus turning it down backs up the high profile ambitions and these name appear the only realistic ones likely to consider it. Lennon etc would not fit the bill IMO I think - it will move on quickly now and there may even be more media leakage whilst the process is ongoing.

What Southampton do is just common sense for me, I'm shocked that we run things so differently. I guess the difference is they have the excellent Les Reed is charge, I've no idea if Jon Rudkin is of that calibre. Optimistically the club will hire a manager of a similar ilk to Pearson, someone who likes to play with a high-intensity, hard-working, pacey style of play and also retain the structure we currently have (sports science staff, Steve Walsh's scouting setup etc). However the approach for Hiddink proves they have no interest in that and are only interested in boosting/repairing reputations in Asia.

Reading the results in the papers? If the 5 or so people they're tracking are happy in their present job how are they better off?
VLC86 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 God I hope this hasn't just been a wasted week I heard the owners havent done anything than call Hiddink continiously for the last week, They literally havent even considered that he wouldnt take the job so the club is now winding up. RIP LCFC.
thesilverfox Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 However the approach for Hiddink proves they have no interest in that and are only interested in boosting/repairing reputations in Asia. I fear history will show that the damage those 3 little ****'s did to our football club is bigger than we can comprehend. The 'plan' we had in place has gone.

RIP LCFC. Well they clearly didn't have a contingency plan for Pearson going so who says they'll have one for Hiddink saying no? Surely we need someone in before they go off to Austria?

They might not be better off if the people they choose don't want to take it.. but are you suggesting it's not actually worth planning ahead? The benefits of it are pretty obvious.

MC Prussian Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 The whole Hiddink story to me appears to be about a man in desperate need for a final payday, pushed and promoted by his friends and allies (including the press). In many ways reminiscent of the Eriksson saga.
VLC86 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Well they clearly didn't have a contingency plan for Pearson going so who says they'll have one for Hiddink saying no? Surely we need someone in before they go off to Austria? Because Pearson going was in their control, Hiddink saying yes isn't.

I guess the difference is they have the excellent Les Reed is charge, I've no idea if Jon Rudkin is of that calibre. Indeed it is, I'd said it's what I'd hoped they had been doing the day Pearson went. I had no idea it's what Saints did as well until a few days ago when I read the article about Reed.
MC Prussian Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Just seen the statement that he's declined the offer/opted not to join us. Hallelujah.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 Get Neil Lennon in. I'm willing to give him a chance would much rather him than a big time Charlie.
Webbo Posted 8 July 2015 Posted 8 July 2015 They might not be better off if the people they choose don't want to take it.. but are you suggesting it's not actually worth planning ahead? The benefits of it are pretty obvious. Just because we havent appointed some one after a week doesn't mean we didn't have targets, Hiddink was linked with us pretty quickly. Whether people liked that target or not is immaterial. Don't forget one of the reasons Pearson left first time around was because Sousa was sitting in the directors box on his last match. Planning for the future didn't help then.
