The title track was indeed written with Syd in mind, as he had been forced to leave the band in1968 due to deteriorating mental health (allegedly through the copious use of LSD). The two-part track, 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' was written as a tribute to him. Got those mixed up. I just remember a documentary where they mentioned it. It's actually a great shout, The album (Wish you were here 1975l) was about absence,with a few nods to Syd Barrett. Syd was kicked out of the band a few years earlier,but didn't die until 2006.
