DangerFox Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 Are we aiming to high so players do not want to come to us or do we smell?! I just hope that we don't get a reputation where players look at the name Leicester City and it puts the off straight away.
Molly Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 That's not happening. Lots of players turn down teams and top class players can have their pick - they all want CL teams first and foremost.
kingfox Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 We need to focus more on realistic targets, Aranguiz for example is in the prime of his career, the lad has the talent to play for a top European side so it's no surprise that he rejected. Inler already rejected Watford & seems to want to stay in Italy. We aren't going to pull a signing like Cambiasso out of the hat every season, Ranieri may want a leader but he might well have to downgrade. Confirm Kante then try for a player who won't be playing in European competitions this season.

Kyuubi Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 We've only been in the premier league one year after a long absence what do you expect?

Yes, we're going for targets above our station and a lot of the time we're competing with CL clubs. The club should be applauded for trying to get the best quality we can get in rather than an easy option from the Championship. I'm the glad the club are showing more ambition than some of our fans.
Andy King Power Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 To be honest, with the money that is coming into English game, it is amazing to see that we're competing with the Marseilles and the Bayers and actually getting players to think twice. The money that a CL team is a much smaller fraction than what we'd get for merely surviving the season. I mean, as a player wanting to go to a top league, would you rather play for a CL team, or 14th place? If we get even one of those players, it would be huge.
MC Prussian Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 It could be down to many separate factors, some of them coming together at once: The recent change in manager, potentially making it look like we've disrupted a perfectly fine balance (seen from the outside) Leicester City still being an unknown quantity and less a hot prospect than other clubs in the league (potential relegation candidates) Not throwing around enough money Throwing around too much money Agents reluctant to let their players enter talks with us Players reluctant to join LCFC A lack of suitable and affordable midfielders with a similar pedigree and experience compared to Cambiasso A scouting department that didn't act quickly enough (although that remains debatable, of course) It's a bit of a pity it's been dragging on for so long, but I'm sure we're not the only club in prolonged talks with possible transfer targets.
FireFox Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 We are doomed. Might as well start supporting Man U now.
Dan Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 I'm just glad we sacked that twat who was clearly bringing our reputation down
CheggersTheFox Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 It's quite obvious, confirm kante and then realise that leroy fer is still at QPR although the lads had his injury problems he can definitely play and adds quality and muscle to that midfield
katieakita Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 The owners say the plan is to get us into the top 6 (bloody big ask) then people come on here moaning that we are looking at players out of our reach because they are good enough to be playing for a top 6 side. the 2 may be linked, if the targets are as good as they think they are they should be able to push us up the table, Aranguiz may fancy a move to BL but have they put a bid in, Inler again wants to apparently play for Fiorentina but they do not seem to want him also. All EPL have ambitions to improve having the cash to back the ambitions is another thing and we are lucky that our owners have the cash to splash out.

But going for the best quality & unrealistic targets sometimes wastes a whole lot of time, we mess about with Aranguiz & Inler who are incredibly unlikely to come here, then at the same time you have our Premier League rivals like Villa snapping up midfielders & we find ourselves left behind. We need to look for players who won't be playing in European competitions next season, or players who are currently out of favour at their clubs & are dying to move.
Wymsey Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 More than anything, this period should be a 'reality check' for those who deal with recruitment dealings. By the sounds of it, they haven't been quite professional in some ways.
smudger63 Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 It might help if we were actually able to speak to the players, bring them over here, take them to the stadium and training ground, and have them talk to the manager and owners, who then have the opportunity of explaining to the players involved, what the clubs vision and ambitions are. Maybe then, they will be impressed enough to join. If they are still not impressed, well then at least they`ve listened to what we had to say, rather than forming an opinion on whatever perception they may have of us, from knowing next to nothing about us, and just dismissing us out of hand. As far as i`m aware neither Aranguiz or Inler have even given us the opportunity of speaking to them directly, and selling ourselves to them.
Guest LCFC_World Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 I think our reputation went down when the owners sacked one our most successful managers in lcfc history, and never gave a real reason for it. But, I'm not gonna hold a grudge...
shen Posted 2 August 2015 Posted 2 August 2015 Why would players from foreign countries who don't follow Leicester even remotely be affected by the sacking of Pearson? Frankly, I believe they'd be more affected by Cambiasso playing here last season...(and not renewing?)

Dr The Singh Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 Was just talking about the reputation overallWe don't really have a reputation, were a low profile club, not expected to do much except fight for survival. Our previous manager or players make no difference to that
volpeazzurro Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 Someone is obviously leaking a set of photographs of our city to prospective signings, just stop it now!

As far as i`m aware neither Aranguiz or Inler have even given us the opportunity of speaking to them directly, and selling ourselves to them. I share those frustrating thoughts. I read Veretout's reasons for joining Villa - impressive ground, large & passionate crowds, the club's ambition as sold to him by Sherwood. Exactly how we could sell LCFC, if only we could get prospects over here and talk to them. (Can't be sure that's not happening, but that's the impression I get). I wonder whether players from Northern Europe are easier to get over here, as compared with Southern Europe or further afield. I also wonder whether Ranieri rates "character" as much as Pearson. It's interesting to compare the level-headed comments of Veretout with the unrealistic reactions of Aranguiz. Or maybe I'm just venturing into fantasy and need to get some sleep!
Chrysalis Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 my issue is how long we persist with targets, its as if we dont have a very long list and no plan B. If they turn us down we should move onto another player.
22BLUE Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 my issue is how long we persist with targets, its as if we dont have a very long list and no plan B. If they turn us down we should move onto another player. I wouldn't mind persisting indefinitely for the right player. Also just because we don't know about it, doesn't mean we aren't talking to other players.
EnglishOxide Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 I share those frustrating thoughts. I read Veretout's reasons for joining Villa - impressive ground, large & passionate crowds, the club's ambition as sold to him by Sherwood. Sherwood is a great bullshitter! Villa Park is only half full these days and in terms of ambition they've just sold their two best players! People need to stop worrying. The Kante deal is done by the sounds of it, and there are 4 weeks to tie up one more midfielder if he's even needed. Players and their agents will drag this shit out all the way to the wire to get the better deals and offers. As far as our reputation goes, nobody will seriously consider us for Europe so we are already down on our targets' lists. But to be honest I would rather we keep hanging the line out to catch a big fish than scooping up a couple of tiddlers in a net.
