Odd article this. How can you have a work permit granted in one European Union Country and not be able toobtain same in another? I assume qualification laws are different in different member States? The EU is really a pile of toilet.

Each country has its own rules for work permits re persons from outside the EU or those not holding EU passports.

UK restrictions are on the stiff side and the FA have tightened up on the criteria recently for granting permits for those with 'exceptional' talent.

What are you talking about? We should say an anglicised version because we speak English. There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever, i get extremely peeved when someone starts adding pronunciations and ways of speech on words which when read in English, would be as they are said by English.

Same goes for people abroad who know two/three words of a language in Thai/French whatever, saying "Can I have" in the foreign language, and then "Cheese burger with chips mate" in English. Just frustrating, if you don;t know the langauge enough, stick to what you actually know.

Add to that the embarassement and delusion methods of English speech abroad by peple like Joey Barton in French and Schteeeeeeve Mclaren in Dutch, it's not ignorant to say something in your given language how it sounds in your given language.

Before jumping in with both feet try reading and comprehending what I actually wrote.

I didn't say we should be saying Paree instead of Paris, I said it was good manners to pronounce his given name correctly,

i'm sorry but I can't agree with this. I think it is only right to try to pronounce someone's name correctly. in some circumstances it is nigh on impossible as there are certain pronunciations in certain languages that from a tender age just aren't learnt by people of other cultures but it is only polite to try to pronounce a person's name as best you can.

Their name is their identity and to suggest because they are in the uk, they should change their name and their identity as people can't be bothered to try to pronounce it correctly or because it sounds strange in our language is wrong.

You don't have to put a dodgy foreign accent on to accompany the attempt but at least make the attempt. And what is wrong with attempting to speak a bit of the language abroad and finishing it in English. Trust me, as a french and german speaker, the English are, by many, held in contempt for arrogantly assuming everyone in the world should speak english and hence the lack of effort by the english to learn and speak other languages. Any attempt you make at least shows that you are trying and don't in fact believe the whole world should speak our language. What is a little annoying is when people talk English with a foreign accent assuming that counts as speaking that language :)

He's had a work permit refused

Typical UK. Millions of illegals get NI numbers, hand outs or jobs. Someone wants to earn an honest living, no chance.

Reports are correct. Solbakken has just said live on TV that "maybe someone has underestimated the requirements for a work permit in the UK. If he's not going to England, it will take a very big club to offer enough money for us to sell."

On a similar note (seeing as I half high-jacked the thread previously), Midtjylland chairman Steinlein does not want to comment on a DKK 50mil (appr. £4.5m) bid from West Ham for Sisto, but says that "if an offer of such a magnitude or higher were to come in, we would of course have to consider it".

There will be a thread slating Rudkin again now.

My comment was slightly tongue in cheek, but trying to make a point.

I don't mind telling you I have voted in 11 general elections, probably voted three times each tory, labour and liberal and a couple of times independent. I have never trusted any politician and vote for whoever I think will serve the country best. I have no interest in UKIP although would be happy to have a pint with Farage. He seems to have a sense of humour if HIGNFY is anything to go by.

Anyway, it is a pity that the powers that be create red tape to prevent genuine people like Amartey coming over who would put plenty in the chancellors coffers, but welcome other people who just use us. For instance the lady who came here specifically to have her five babies and then went back to her own country.

Maybe we should have realised that our last attempt to get a work permit has hardly turned out to be a roaring success and we might struggle in our next one. I hope if we feel we need to strengthen in this area, we have other irons in other fires.

It went quite well for Okazaki, didn't it?

Can we not appeal the permit?

Yes we can but its probably unlikely that we'd get a decision either way between now and the transfer deadline on Tuesday so it makes sense to leave it for now.
