Bayfox Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Yaya Touré, Vincent Company, Javier Mascharanp are the big recent ones of the top my my head. Although the Dutch philosophy of training players to play in every position also offers many examples. You missed our jeffrey bruma
HoustonFox Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 The original choice of background music creates a powerful atmosphere. Also some of the lyrics are "it's not about the salary and all about reality". Hope that's his agent's choice of music
enmac Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 I don't think were in for Amartey either, i got the impression when stringer asked claudio about him, he'd never heard of him. That's because Stringer said Armani! CR replied: "who?" The way he said it tells me that he doesn'thave a high regard for Stringer.
Ed25 Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 That's because Stringer said Armani! CR replied: "who?" The way he said it tells me that he doesn't have a high regard for Stringer. For me the way he said it tells me that Stringer tried to put on an accent and CR had no idea who he meant. Nothing to do with how they regard one another

Nothing to do with how they regard one another He does that a lot and confuses/annoys the interviewee with his pedantry for pronunciation. Something similar did lead to one of my favourite Nigel Pearson quotes ever: Pearson: Marcin trained with the first team sq- Stringer: Marchin trained * a few seconds of silence while Pearson fumed* Pearson: Yes Ian, but we don't go to Paree, we go to Paris.

LCCFox96 Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 And that's why I still miss Nige. Me too. Claudio is just too polite to deliver such blunt replies. Nige had the subtlety of a flying mallet!
hackneyfox Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Makes NFP look an ignorant twat. We may say Paris rather than Paree but surely we all have the manners to call someone by their given name not an anglicised version of it.

We may say Paris rather than Paree but surely we all have the manners to call someone by their given name not an anglicised version of it. So should we start pronouncing it Riyed Mah'erez? Come off it. Marsin/Marchin/Martin sounds very similar, why make a fuss out of it? Surely, Stringer is the one coming across as the arrogant pr*ck here.
Thracian Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 I'm confused - as good as Sisto may be we aren't in for him are we? And this is still the Amartey thread, right? Happy to take both though......... We're in for everyone - that's the plan! Success guaranteed.
filbertstreet Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 We're in for everyone - that's the plan! Success guaranteed. ah t'watford plan

Tbf Nige probably just called Marce or Was when away from the media anyway. Recalling the incident at the time, it was more an issue with Stringer's interuption (which was most unneeded) and he decided to knock him back bluntly.
NeilLCFC Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Come guys, let's get posting - still 86 pages to go before he signs.
Heymister2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 I still think this one will happen before deadline day and a winger!

If you go and live abroad, your name may well be unusual to everyone around you. You've got to expect people to say it funny most of the time.
mozartfox Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Come guys, let's get posting - still 86 pages to go before he signs. Get that Anderson fellow involved and the threads will start rolling in. We need some Fridge/Steering wheel action plus Bayer04 to chuck in stupid bid.

We may say Paris rather than Paree but surely we all have the manners to call someone by their given name not an anglicised version of it. What are you talking about? We should say an anglicised version because we speak English. There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever, i get extremely peeved when someone starts adding pronunciations and ways of speech on words which when read in English, would be as they are said by English. Same goes for people abroad who know two/three words of a language in Thai/French whatever, saying "Can I have" in the foreign language, and then "Cheese burger with chips mate" in English. Just frustrating, if you don;t know the langauge enough, stick to what you actually know. Add to that the embarassement and delusion methods of English speech abroad by peple like Joey Barton in French and Schteeeeeeve Mclaren in Dutch, it's not ignorant to say something in your given language how it sounds in your given language.

I think it is only right to try to pronounce someone's name correctly. in some circumstances it is nigh on impossible as there are certain pronunciations in certain languages that from a tender age just aren't learnt by people of other cultures but it is only polite to try to pronounce a person's name as best you can. Their name is their identity and to suggest because they are in the uk, they should change their name and their identity as people can't be bothered to try to pronounce it correctly or because it sounds strange in our language is wrong. You don't have to put a dodgy foreign accent on to accompany the attempt but at least make the attempt. And what is wrong with attempting to speak a bit of the language abroad and finishing it in English. Trust me, as a french and german speaker, the English are, by many, held in contempt for arrogantly assuming everyone in the world should speak english and hence the lack of effort by the english to learn and speak other languages. Any attempt you make at least shows that you are trying and don't in fact believe the whole world should speak our language. What is a little annoying is when people talk English with a foreign accent assuming that counts as speaking that language

mozartfox Posted 29 August 2015 Posted 29 August 2015 Looks like we'll have to settle for what we already have.....which ain't bad by any means. Odd article this. How can you have a work permit granted in one European Union Country and not be able to obtain same in another? I assume qualification laws are different in different member States? The EU is really a pile of toilet.
