Why Ranieri is the right man for the LCFC job, and why the pundits have got it all wrong.

I think Shakespeare & Walsh are having a good influence. We seem to be continuing where we left off last season in terms of style of play (I guess 9 wins out of 11 must be the best ever run by City - any statisticians to confirm or not?). An interesting piece in the Times today says Ranieri likely to have intensified training schedule with "6 day weeks and double training" but changed his mind after discussions with Shakespeare & Walsh.

Edit - Perhaps the wrong thread for me to post on as I was disappointed by Ranieri's appointment, but I hope I can say I was wrong.

Results will ultimately prove whether he is the right man for the job, and so far he has been perfect.

Of course we will be on the wrong end of results during the season, but if we end up with more points than last year, he will have proved himself.

Onwards and upwards.  :scarf:  :scarf:

I said pre season he needed to get off to a good start and that's just what he's done. But there's more to it than that. He's handled the Media the Backroom staff, The Players and even us the Fans brilliantly. He's at an age now where he's obviously wealthy,

experienced and comfortable within himself. I cannot think of a single thing he's got wrong so far. He works quietly behind the scenes instilling confidence in others. He was smart to realise and acknowledge the great Job NP had done also.

All in all a good appointment.

Given how the "Tinkerman" label is used to deride him by the media, I wonder if any of them will acknowledge how good his changes were today.

After WH scored, they were on top and and had all the momentum and I am sure every Leicester fan was worried with were going to through away the lead. Ranieri made good changes to solidify the midfield which helped us resist better + get hold of the ball more as a double whammy. Third effect of all the subs was to slow the game down and WH lost momentum pretty rapidly.

Top Tinksmanship!

I think this article goes to show you that the media loves a good narrative. The prevailing one when ranieri was hired was that he was an old, uninspired hire. He was a man who just lost to the faroe islands. Our run of form was only because of the circumstances of a relegation battle, and the form wouldn't be repeated without Nigel pearson.

Luckily aleast one person did some thinking outside of the prevailing narrative, and look how right they look.

You make excellent points. But I bet most LCFC fans were pretty underwhelmed when we heard of his appointment. I know I was. Not only because he was older, but I felt we'd lose the team, and the spirit Pearson had built up, and also because there was a fear of going back to the Sven days.

Obviously I was wrong about several things, but I'm still wondering what will happen when players leave and he has to build a new team. That will be a real test, as will strengthening the team for another tough P/L campaign together with the extra matches the C/L will bring next season, if we achieve that.

The article is brilliant to read now, but I wonder if things had gone badly, how quickly we would be agreeing with the pundits?!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

The points made in the article on Huth are spot on. Great signing and I regard him as a more important signing than Cambiasso in our survival last season, not to mention our success this season. So glad we got him and turning into a proper club legend, not a one season wonder.

It's quite obvious that Kante isn't a replacement for Cambiasso. I'd say he's more of one for James and that Inler, should it go through, will be the Cambiasso replacement.

Man oh man

The Cambiasso v Kante comparison box is ridiculous. Different leagues, different teams etc. Kante might be good but I doubt he's in Cambiasso's league. Not many are.

And now you can argue, actually, prove, Kante is in Esteban's league

Incredible story

It's a shame Ranieri is nearly mid-60; I know he said he wants to stay here ''forever'', but there'll sadly come a time where looking to the future in that department needs to be evaluated.

Very much glad he's settled in very well and done the business on the pitch thus far, as he had quite a few doubters wrong such as Lineker.

Sorry, no? Kante is James's replacement. Inler was supposed to be Cambiasso's but Drinky stepped up.

This is obvious to everyone.. except those who have something against Cambiasso and just want to say Kante > Cambiasso, which is true but misleading.

That is the one thing I do not worry about Ranieri. Team building is his specialty. He understands tactically what he needs and knows players very well. Plus with the likes of Shakey and Walsh in the background, I don't believe we will need to worry.

Cambiasso is defo not in kante's league no lol

is Inler that bad..?  did he get the chances to prove himself...   a mystery buy indeed

Drinkwater is just better. Feel a bit for Inler, Kramaric, Benalouane, Ulloa and to some degree even Dyer. They probably expected more opportunities than they've got. We've been lucky/clever with injuries and suspensions.

Anyone else think Drinky is better because of Cambiasso's time here? Looks like something may have rubbed off or been absorbed over the last year.

Probably influenced Drinky but the biggest thing is probably being on the bench so much last season, which has probably given him more Determination. Add the good form, Kante and Ranieri and we have very good Drinkwater.
