My ONLY worry...

Recommended Posts

Posted

What a day! I'm glad Ranieri stuck to his word that he wasn't going to change things around too much, and we just left off where we ended last season.

But... (And sorry for being negative) my only worry is Nigel gets a job elsewhere and the back room staff follow him. Do you think this will effect the players massively? Or am I worrying unnessesarly? I noticed Shakey and Phillips standing back with each other, miles apart from Ranieri pretty much a all game but that doesn't really mean much.

Anyway, up the foxes!!

Well, if Kev and Shakey have been left in out in the cold and Ranieri's new guys still managed to get todays performance out of us then I'm not sure there will be too much to worry about on that front. As for the players, I know they have good relationships with the current staff and it will always be hard to see people go and have to get to know the new people/methods but In all honesty I don't think we give the players enough credit - they are professionals, they can handle the change.

Fair point...

I cant even be bothered to read it. Just go and get drunk for god sake.

I can't, my wife should be giving birth any day! Normally the Rouge would be flowing by now! I think that's why I'm worrying!

You think his ex-backroom staff want to go to Rotherham?

Why would the back room staff leave to go to a small club, Pearson will never manage in the Prem again, i doubt very much if Championship teams will touch him.

Really? After what he did here? I'd have thought first manager sacked in championship and they'd be after Pearson as there isn't really much else out there.

A lot of credit has to go to the scouting team here and Shakespeare, but with the current group of players we have, I'm not in the slightest worried if that was the case. These players do not need a lot of management and Ranieri is being very shrewd in not unsettling the players and implementing changes as slowly as possible. He saw what worked and what didn't and he's kept the things that worked. I'm interested to see how he reacts when we go through a bad spell. That will be the acid test. Pearson's idea of playing the wingbacks was a masterstroke, especially when it got considered to be a defensive move. Completely untrue. We will be figured out at some point and have to change something at some point. How we adapt when the time comes will ultimately decide how much we relied on the backroom staff and Nige.

Couldn't agree more.

Pearson won't ever manage a club as big as Leicester again and certainly not in the premier league. And no club would be able to match their salaries. But hey I'm sure they'd like to work at a less prestigious club in a lower level for less money because their buddy's there.

I'm sensing not much love for him... Even though there was uproar when he got sacked.

It was a very promising start and whilst I'm generally keen not to judge situations on one game, it looks like there's a good chance that Ranieri can continue to get a similar level out of players as Nigel did at the back end of last season (obviously we're not going to win every week, but the same commitment and enthusiasm). However let's not lose sight of the fact that this is still a side constructed almost entirely by Nigel and the scouting system he set up. Losing Walsh/the scouting system in it's current state, or Ranieri failing to trust and use the set-up as Pearson did would be a disaster (although still getting Kante seems promising). I don't know how long Ranieri intends to stay with us, but if he's going to be a long term success then he'll need to be successful in the transfer market where he's really untested for us at the moment. Still today is reason to be optimistic about our chances.

We're not Manchester United. He's just kept us up after delivering the Championship with relative ease. Any top Championship side will be after him and in all likelihood many struggling Premier League sides, plenty of whom are as 'big' as us. He's also the person who is responsible for us being a lower mid-table Premier League club rather than a mid-table Premier League club. I don't know why you think he's incapable of repeating what he's already done, but a bit more respect for the person who got us here and put together the side that started today's game wouldn't go amiss.

Fine; he needs to show some respect for aspects of his own job.

Pearson was also the manager that had us bottom of the table for much of last season, with his lets stay in the game approach.

It was only when it got to shit or bust time, and he knew that only wins would give us a chance of staying up, that he let the player of the leash and really go for it.

In fact even when he first went to three centre backs, he played Simpson and Konchesky, which actually made it a back five.

Eventually he had to admit to himself that not playing Albrighton was maybe a mistake, put him and Schlupp as wing backs, and hey presto we started to look like we could cause other teams problems.

It wasn`t rocket science, but Pearson is and has always been so pig headed, and never wanting to be proven that he had got things wrong, that it took until it was do or die for him to change it.

Having said all that, i do think he`s an excellent manager, who eventually will admit his mistakes to himself in the end, and will learn from them.

it just takes him a long time to get to that point.

I really can`t see a premier league club going anywhere near him to be honest, but i do agree that a championship team will snap him up fairly early on.

My money would be on Forest being that club!

We finished 14th in our first season in the Premier League, despite not spending a vast amount and having the second cheapest side in the division. He also won us two league titles during his time with the club, gave us one of if not the best match in our history against Man United as well as some brilliant moments (Forest away/Leeds home etc.). We were a bang average mid-table Championship side when he arrived. Can you seriously not bring yourself to appreciate that he did a fantastic job for us just because you're bitter about being wrong about him in March?

I think Pearson could replace a sacked manager in the prem come the relegation scrap

Quite agree. I wouldn't be in the least surprised to see him back in the premier league before the end of this season. Sunderland would be a good shout but there are other places.

I don't think he'll be encouraged to bring his son with him though.

Mark for God's sake get over Nigel bloody Pearson!

Your adoration is weird!

I've said it before.

We respected him for what he did but look at what you are writing.

You are a young man and must get over this bizarre infatuation.

Get out more, get a g/f.. anything but move on from this.

I came into this thread to discuss Ranieri, which is what the opening of my first post in here was about. But if people are going to post stupid things about people who've done a lot for the club I'm going to take issue with that. Seems fairly reasonable to me.

Pearson could walk into ANY championship club. I was gutted he was sacked. We need to move on though. I did wonder the same though, if a job came up, would his backroom team go? I hope not, but we'll see.

I think the Reading or QPR jobs will be first up.
