suffolk fox Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 There is a japfest2 at Rockingham motors next week. There are loads of posters around where I live advertising the event? Is that racist too? A non story every media outlet does not like us for some reason and they are using everything in their power to discredit us. This is a non story blown out of proportion by idiots who should know better. Vardy is a pro footballer who earns loads of dosh. He called someone a Jap he didn't threaten him with violence or grab him by the lapels or anything? Christ, some people need to grow a pair I have been called a lot worse in my job but I don't go bleating like a schoolboy to the tabloids.
The Doctor Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 So you've just made my point for me. The use of the word 'Jap' in a derogatory context is not "ingrained in OUR (my capitals) culture like paki and nigger" suggests to me it was not being used in a derogatory manner, and so its use is not an example of racism. And for the record, the word 'nigger' also didn't have a derogatory connotation in British culture (being merely a corruption of the latin word for black); the derogatory connotation was imported from the USA - unfortunately we already had our own offensive words for black people... It's a racial slur, likelihood is that Vardy was ignorant of that and thought it was just short for Japanese in the same way Aussie is short for Australian. However, there's still then the issue of calling a chinese guy japanese - the implication being, well they're all the same aren't they.
Scotch Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 Regardless of what nationality, if you use it to insult someone,it's racist.example, someone saying that they are going round to the "Paki" shop or having a "chinky" in my opinion is not racist. Ignorant? Yes. Racist? No. However, calling someone from China/Pakistan a "Chinky/Paki" in a derogatory way IS racist! If your choosen way to insult them is to bring up where they come from then it suggests a dislike for that place. But,yeah. It's all about context. I'm Scottish, I have no problem with being referred to as a Jock but if someone says it in a derogatory manner towards me, ofcourse I'm going to have a problem with it. I also don't think that the term "Jap" can be compared to terms like "Brit" or "Scot" as we happily call ourselves these things. I have never met a Japanese bloke refer to himself as a "Jap" so if you know that, that person finds this offensive then using it is bang out of order. In short, if this is indeed true, Vardy is in the wrong. End of. How the club react will be very interesting given the events of the summer. Brizzlfox Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME ......JESUS thought this was going to get a heads up He is Chinese and they look nothing like Japanese people if you know what japanese people look like Like shouting Packi at someone from india And the Jap thing doesn't bother me It was his disgusting behaviour infront of his wife to be and his team mates , what a total KNOB But I only know him through his exploits on pitch and he does ok at that So the rest I don't really care about He is obviously a co*k when drunk So the story is, "young British male has too much to drink and then acts in an aggressive manner". What a shocker - as if that doesn't happen of an evening in every town and village of this land (and at various Med holiday resorts) of an evening. Regrettable certainly, but hardly front page news...and isn't on the front page of any real newspaper of course...

digitalalba Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 No one needs to ever get sacked for that Slap on wrist and race awareness training End of street If he was my player I'd be more concerned about his drinking Racism is a criminal offence, LCFC cannot be seem advocating it, they have to sack him and distance themselves from his actions like they did with Pearson junior. ImBlue Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 To be fair, when he asked him to move on he shouldn't have antagonised Vardy he should hve just moved on if he isn't playing and the player is uncomfortable with him around him. Isn't that derogatory, and just needs a slap on the wrist.

ImBlue Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 Oh, I'm predicting the pro-Pearson fans will use this and say Vardy should be sacked, just to use it as a stick to beat the owners with. The guy is our best forward, and worth at the minute, close to £15m. Sack him for a mistake? A public apology and a fine would be ok and would show we don't condone it. The Doctor Posted 9 August 2015 Share Posted 9 August 2015 In short, if this is indeed true, Vardy is in the wrong. End of. How the club react will be very interesting given the events of the summer. I wouldn't say that tbh - the racism was just one element in the thai-orgy event - there was also the issue of the misogyny, that it was done on company time and the general dehumanising language used. This is, if it's even true (given he's a yorkshire lad, where chap is quite a common term, and the two are quite similar in sound, I'm willing to guess it's a mishearing), just one chap making himself look like a slightly ignorant tit. It's not really sacking territory like the one earlier in the summer. they look as similar, in the same way that to a man from Africa, two blonde haired white men look alike. it's not racism it's called categorisation, it's how we make sense of the world. Similar is not alike, and in general japanese and chinese people are identifiable from one another.

Lets hope you never get called up for jury service, you have a very grainy manipulated one sided footage footage of someone acting like a yob, do you believe everything you read in the Sun? Vardy needs to be told about his conduct and the clubs image and responsibilities, suppose when this is dropped you will raise the subject on Mahrez being in a Casino allegedly. I don't want him sacked because he's a crucial player but if found guilty the club are in a difficult position given what happened a couple of months ago. Even if he didn't say what is alleged it's not particularly positive to see him drunk and acting aggressively either. Like it or not, his every move will be scrutinised and he needs to be more aware of his actions. Not to be angelic and teacher's pet but to be responsible. This has nothing to do with pro-Pearson, anti-Pearson or any such crap, it's about Jamie Vardy, his behaviour and the possible implications for him and the club.
