Babs...you need a break mate.. I'm genuinely worried about how much time you spend on here trying to always prove you are right. If you need someone to talk to just let me know!

Ahhh the old I'm lets skip the point and make a comment about someone post rate like it actually means anything.

It's not really hard to prove myself right against you, you're a massive hypocrite.

"Cant but love them bastard Japs pak*s!" Absolutely fine to say as I'm not shouting it at you.

As others have said its the way the term is used makes it potentially racist. I wouldn't consider the term 'Jap' on its own as racist but in the context that Vardy was using it I would consider it to be derogatory at best, and potentially racist. The fact that The Scum are taking the moral high ground on this though is quite ridiculous.

Clearly you have a problem with Japanese people though.

Yeah I do obviously... As I haven't got any Japanese friends!!.

I'll let you have the last word as always if it makes you feel better!...

Frankly, what's most offensive about that video is that he wears his jeans so the waist sits below his pants. The sound quality is abysmal but it doesn't sound like Jap, and if the sun weren't trying to force the idea that it was with the subtitles, that wouldn't have crossed my mind. Sounds more like chap at points, and jack at others.

Whatever the truth in this, whatever he said, whatever his intent was, it's just another berk who drinks being a berk to someone else. Is it offensive? Perhaps. But that which is deemed offensive is a matter of opinion, not a matter fo fact - it's subjective. I frankly find the way we are governed, and manipulated by 'newspapers' such as The Sun offensive, much much more offensive than a footballer being stupid, but we won't see anything come of that. Being offended is frankly something we all just have to accept, there will always be something to get het up about otherwise.

And no, I am not condoning racism either - but in a broader context, this is trivial nonsense.

As much as I love him as a player, he's such a ****ing chav isn't he? Pathetic behaviour even without the racist parts.

This. He's been great for us and its hard not to love the work rate on the pitch and stuff, but the bloke is an absolute cock.

I've never understood this. Jap isn't racist, it's short for Japanese. British people are called Brits.

I could argue about Taffy, Chink and the rest but it's pointless.

This really is a load of crap. Especially from a paper that's made it's name from abusing the French, Germans and various other nationalities over the years.

I don't think the two terms are comparable.

Your (and I'd have thought most of the board's)attitude to the word "Paki" is strongly influenced by being brought up (?) and living in an area of the country with a very high sub-continental Asian population and hearing of the experiences of many of your peers who are of that background.

As for "Jap" people don't have the "need" to understand any racist connotations for it as there simply aren't as many Japanese people around.

Ignorance of the offensiveness of the word "Jap" is far more understandable than "Paki" in my opinion but clearly that doesn't make either ok.

No, the two are very much comparable.

I'm getting a little bit fed of having to explain racism to people who should know better (that is, everyone.)

Calling Okazaki a 'Jap' is crude, a bit politically incorrect, rude and disrespectful. He is, however, Japanese, the fans know (mostly) he's Japanese and they aren't being deliberately offensive (for the most part.)

Calling an Asian man whose ethnicity you have no idea about a 'Jap' is racist, calling Okazaki a 'chink' is racist, singing that Yuki Abe eats dogs is racist. These things are all racist because you're making ludicrous and ignorant assumptions about a person based on their race.

If Jamie Vardy called this man a Jap and assuming that he had no idea the man was Japanese or not (lets not clutch at straws here, it's about 99% certain Vardy didn't have a clue and it's exceptionally more likely that Asian patrons in a casino in Leicester will be Chinese and not Japanese) then he is being racist and offensive.

Vardy was most likely in the wrong and it's embarrassing for him and the club but I also accept he was probably drunk and emotional, I don't think he's a terrible human being because he lashed out. What offends me far more is that plenty of people on this forum, who are sober and clear minded in the light of day, are looking at this and dismissing the use of the word as inoffensive and denying that there's any racism present. That, for me, is far worse.

I don't disagree with any of this; I just don't think it's unreasonable for people not to understand the potential inflammatory nature of the term "Jap" (putting aside the specific context of this incident) whereas I do think it's unreasonable for people not to understand how offensive "Paki" is.

One term is undeniably more loaded than the other.

Given the implication there would be all white people look the same - yes; If he has said jap (sound quality on that is dreadful so I don't know how the sun can claim it is with the certainty they are) and the person (completely out of shot) is just of east-asian appearance, then it's racist, like singing songs about Yuki Abe eating dogs; basically saying chinese, japanese, korean, they're all the same aren't they.
