Indeed... anyone referring to a Japanese person as a Jap or collectively Japs should be branded racist and punished.

P.S waiting for someone to remark about 'That's how City play anyway"

Tbh the term brit could be seen as racist if used in a certain way. If someone is abusing someone on the basis that are British i.e. "Get out the way you stupid idiot brit" by the letter of the law that's racist. I wouldn't be offended by it tbh but it's the same principle. Single out the race of someone to abuse them, it's racist. That said, the video of vardy is so badly manipulated it is impossible to form a judgement. The sun are about as low as they come.

What good has that casino done for the people and city of Leicester?!

Now they release a video just to f**ck over the name of the football club as well...storm in a tea cup sums it up...Vardy shouldn't be addressing the guy with that word in an aggressive manner though - I would have been offended

I would think they will lose some big punters now.

Is Jap racist?

Racism depends on context, not just using a word a word alone isn't racist. Which is why Kanye Weat can get 90,000 people at Glastonbury shouting nigger whereas if I used it in the street I would get my head kicked in.

Context:

If Vardy had said "it was great to play upfront with the jap today I think we will form a great partnership." He is clearly not being racist.

If he said "I fvcking hate japs" he is.

In this context he seems to be using jap to identify the person that has been pissing him off, or get his attention.

"Yo jap, come here I want to give you a hug" isn't racist in my eyes.

So why is "yo jap, jog on"?

If he said "jog on you jap" then it sounds a lot worse.

"Yo jap", is the same as "excuse me gentleman of oriental origin".

You could say that jap has a deeper racist connotation, like nip paki or nigger, but not knowing that is excusable as it is used in common culture, see all the jap based puns in the Sun and it is just a shortening of Japanese and only means a Japanese person.

Like when Alan Hansen referred to coloured players on motd he wasn't being racist despite using a racist term, he just didn't know it was racist, he apologised as ignorance isn't an excuse but he wasn't branded a racist.

Now at the moment there is a lot of doubt over what was said. Vardy and the other players have said it was chap the video isn't clear enough to prove otherwise so until we get some further evidence we should not throw any accusations of racism around.

WOW Babs you had to trawl through my posts to find that...you need a girlfriend mate!!

Look up context in a dictionary. I heard lads saying yday "that jap looks decent" that's abit different to aggressively shouting and hollowing "oi jap" constantly and then having to be restrained by a team mate.

But I'm sure your right...as usual!!!

The fact the Sun have published this is laughable. There are multiple stories people have highlighted where they use the term 'Jap' in their headline!!

This whole thing is ridiculous. The audio isnt at all clear so he could well be saying 'chap'. Is there any other angles that show who he's speaking to?

Whole thing is ridiculous.

my mate was there when it happened and this has been spoke about  . yep it was " jap" and yes it was out of order . once again , spring forward the " it cant be true " " jap isn't racist"  nonsence . he behaved like a **** , should've known better and should be punished by the club . but hes a Leicester player hence he should do as he likes attitude arises . be honest , hes a twat . his mrs sits there laughing at his antics , he didn't stand a chance as all casinos are filmed with sound and it looks like their film to me . and after simpson and the three orgy students he should've known better .itll blow over but who next ffs ?

He referred to someone as a Jap, end of story. What you seem to be suggesting is that it's ok to call you a paki, so long as I'm not angry and shouting it at you.

You either think the word is wrong or you don't. You can't sit there and slate him for it when you seeming have no problem using the word yourself.

I'm well aware of context see previous posts, you clearly aren't though. Oh and it took about three seconds to find it whilst I'm sat working... but yeah I need a bird

I've lived in Leicester, Wales, USA, Botswana & New Zealand and over the years (including visiting places like Scotland) I've been called:

Brit,

Pom,

Pommy bastard

Limey

Limey ****

English twat,

English cnt

British scumbag

Among many other insults.

A friend of mine from Newcastle was beaten up in Carmarthen by a Welshman (wearing an Arsenal top!) for her being "an English slag" when only the former part of that statement was true.

My point is, racism goes on pretty much all the time perpetrated by everyone against everyone. It's funny how some is taken more seriously than others while a lot is dismissed and ignored or not taken seriously.

I guess the way I see it is when you're referencing someone to get their attention, it's okay (albeit rude) to use their race, in the same way as their hair colour or weight. oy ginger, oy fatty, oy lanky, oy jap, oy scot, oy frenchy are all acceptable, rude but acceptable. if it was said directly, in conjunction with a slur i.e "you jap twät" then the inclusion of race adds a racist element.

for example if I was in Thailand I would consider the first one rude and the second one mildly racist...

"oy Brit, walk on"

"you British twät"
