Kante

Would be harsh to drop Kingy after Tuesday. Maybe Kante will start on the bench?

King did not perform as well as Kante has been performing. Plus Kante Drinkwater is a better balance. Kante is 100% first choice as soon as he is fit.

I suppose so. Only thing would be if he's not 100% fit, and wouldn't be able to see out the game. It's better bringing him on than taking him off.

I don't know how often Kante's finished with a goal and assist - maybe once if memory serves - but

comparing King with Kante is like comparing a hurdler with a sprinter - they're just not the same.

As for Drinkwater/Kante being a better balance than King/Drinkwater or King/Kante have you any evidence. Even Ranieri referred to how well King/Drinkwater had played together in the past, presumably including previous seasons.

Babs wlll likely have detail by his fingertips but from memory I'd say King's results record this last 12 monthas has been outstanding. Yes, so are the others mentioned.

It's an enviable choice and I'd likely chose Kante first because he's probably the best "busy" midfielder and ball-robber I've ever seen in a city shirt.

But for all his strengths (and Drinkwater's) I believe King is by far the best goal threat or the three and even the best goalmaker given the right situation and options around him.

The rub comes with his athleticism.

Kingy looked strong against West Brom but I think his pace and stamina drop a bit the more he plays or the more he tries to do. He's also not the best in tracking fast runners, because he's not that quick to turn and is certainly no sprinter.

On the plus side, apart from his goals potential, he's also the best aerial defender of the three by a distance and the fastest and most accurate short passer.

In the end it's down to the manager's conviction based on his intentions for the game. King is probably the easiest to leave on the bench diplomatically and I don't really mind that at all.

Because Ranieri of all managers will recognise if we need to use him. Either way I just want to see the "attacking" King who played this week rather than the subdued King.

People who say he can't do this or that are blinkered. King can manipulate the ball as well and as quickly as anyone if given licence. He just doesn't take risks when it's not required and tends to pass shorter rather than longer because of those risk factors.

Truth is we've got three fabulous midfielders and I don't really give a toss who gets the nod. I'd always want goals in my side but while I've been willing enough to criticise the tactics of many a manager I've not been much inclined to call Ranieri, even on the odd occasion he's got it wrong.

To me the way Ranieri reads the game is one of his great strengths. Every substitution he makes seems to have a specific point and I'm not naive enough to believe he'll get lucky every time.

If he tries and fails that's one thing but I can look back on managers who needed a goal and did hardly anything and many other such situations.

Ranieri's right on the tactical ball. And not the least afraid to follow his convictions whoever gets sidelined. So Kante, Drinkwater or King? Over to the boss. There's more than one way to the ecstacy of success! Ranieri's earned some trust.

Play your best players if they're fit - I like King but we're chasing a title

We've won titles with King and matches against the best team's in the land.

Can't believe you've just written all of that to try and convince me there is any doubt Kante is in our best 11. Waste of time.

Is there some ambiguity I've missed in this sentence?

"It's an enviable choice and I'd likely chose Kante first because he's probably the best "busy" midfielder and ball-robber I've ever seen in a city shirt."

Well the word likely and the other 14 paragraphs are where the ambiguity comes in.

I agree with Thrac though, he's not written all that to say "dismiss Kanté", he's written it to say "Kanté is first choice but don't disregard King out of hand" which is a perfectly valid point that so many are failing to grasp even after his excellent performance against West Brom.

It's not dismissing King. I was more than happy for him to come in and not worried he would let us down. Which he didn't. But Kante is just unquestionably better for us and Drinkwater Kante will obviously be the partnership whenever available.

tough call - we have a 9 day break so he may be tempted to start ngolo and if he feels his hammy, take him off. if we were playing next Saturday, I would be sure king would start.

given the style of the opposition, I wonder if Claudio will be tempted to go with ngolo.  after all, a drinkwater/king midfiled should be good enough against a Newcastle who are likely to sit quite deep.

I love Andy King but if you really can't understand that Kante is the most important player in our team then I'm quite astounded. He is the best midfielder to play for us in the modern era, including Cambiasso and Izzet. Not every player needs to score and assist regularly, we've other players to do that. Kante stops the opposition and starts us on so many occasions it's outrageous.

While King was better against West Brom, he still goes missing far too often for him to be relied on consistently, IMO.

Certainly a good deputy, but Kante needs to start if available - he's just something else.

I find with Andy King that he is great when we are on top and having the better of a game.

When we are under the cosh he goes missing a little.

Nothing against King but Kante has to play away from home, when there will be spells when we are up against it. Kante nicking balls, intercepting and starting our breaks off will be key

Indeed Kante is one of the best midfielders we've had and if fit should start ahead of king, Kante's form as always consistent, no brainer.

King will no doubt still be here once Kante has gone and I love the bloke he's simply doesn't start ahead of either Kante or drinky unless form dictates otherwise.

this morning, kanté was pre selectionned by Deschamps to play in the french national team. I don't know if you do the same thing in England but that means he is in a shortlist of players who could be called to play the next two friendly games.

We usually have a 30 man short-list that is whittled down to 23.
