Voll Blau Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Be a good move to see a few games a year played around the country. Seems to be the norm in plenty of other countries. Now we just need the FA Cup semis moving too... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34589354?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_sport&ns_source=facebook&ns_linkname=sport England could play home matches away from Wembley from next year. The national team played at grounds across the country from 2000-2007 while Wembley was being rebuilt for £757m. Last year it was reported that paying off the costs of the national stadium would mean staging England games at Wembley for up to nine more years. But last week the FA agreed a £300m package to refinance their loan, which they say will allow "significant annual interest savings."
Footballwipe Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Yeah disappointing that there was nothing regarding FA Cup semis, I remember that was a 25-year contract at the time so whether there's something extra than needs to be done to get out of that, it would be welcome. Would be great to see semis at Emirates, OT, St. James,' Olympic Stadium (to a lesser extent) and even Villa Park, Hillsborough (though whether they'd go back there now all of the higher capacity grounds are up and running is another question.) Really hope they don't do the above with England games though. They need to realise it's not a problem to go to grounds with capacities below 35k. They're friendlies and need to be fervent experiences rather than heading to the biggest grounds. I'd regionalise it. One game in East Mids, West Mids, North East, North West, Yorkshire.
RonnieTodger Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Good. England home games have such a stale feel to them now. Moving them round the country will rejuvenate a bit of interest. Keep it for cup finals and stuff of course.
davieG Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Playing some at the week end rather than Friday night / Tuesday evening would help as I'd like to go to one but can't unless it's a W/E day.
Guest Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Don't see the point in building a luxury national stadium and not playing the national team there. Maybe Leyton Orient could use it for league games.
Fox92 Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Not for me. Wembley is the home of our National Team, of course England should play every home game there.
ScouseFox Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 ive never been but it looks and seems as though there is very little experiences in life more depressing than watching an england friendly at wembley these days. at least if it was somewhere different it'd be a bit cheaper and potentially have a bit more atmosphere.
Dan Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 That's great news. Using Wembley sparingly will make it a better occasion all round I think. England v Hungary at Old Trafford was one of the best atmospheres I've ever heard.
purpleronnie Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Why would they move them away from Wembley? Nothing in that small article suggests they will. Just because they're going to save money doesn't mean they'll play elsewhere and lose income.

Just because they're going to save money doesn't mean they'll play elsewhere and lose income. To me it seems that Wembley doesn't need to have big income events there anymore to pay the bills. If anything I can see the F.A. Cup semi finals being put back to club grounds but even then they make plenty more money so why would they lose out on that income?
Fox92 Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 England are only depressing to watch because of Hodgson's defensive style.
Dan Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 England are only depressing to watch because of Hodgson's defensive style. England have been awful to watch for ages. Hodgson doesn't help but it can't all be put on him. The overall experience of an England game at Wembley is horrendous.

Atmosphere sounds terrible at Wembley, via television, but everything about the way we play doesn't help.

Atmosphere sounds terrible at Wembley, via television, but everything about the way we play doesn't help. It's appalling. Our own national anthem at home drowned out by booing Scotland fans. If that doesn't point to a dreadful atmosphere I don't know what does. We've been poor to watch for ages. It was no better under Capello or McClaren either.
Stevosevic Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 New Wembley is so shit, even worse for England games. All that money and they came up with that.
Wymsey Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 I personally don't think it's fair, based on national interest, to be moved from a ground that's based around football and its history - to move for bullying clubs like Chelsea* I believe Chelsea want to play here, in order to re-build their stadium.
Leicesterpool Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Much more sensible really, means everyone can get the chance to watch England play on their doorstep. Also when it use to be took round the country, the atmosphere at some games were amazing. The wembley atmosphere is just dire. Also it's always a dear day out at wembley.

Villa Park and Old Trafford should ideally be the venue's for the semi's seeing as it's the second and third biggest cities in England.
Itsthejoeker Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 Preparing for the fact there'll be an NFL franchise playing there in the next few years
J.Lisemore Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 New Wembley is so shit, even worse for England games. All that money and they came up with that. Agreed. Its not a coincidence that when England games are played at Old Trafford or Villa park, the atmosphere is a lot better. Been to the new Wembley once and wouldn't bother again unless City get there.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 England are only depressing to watch because of Hodgson's defensive style. Can be defensive as we want for me if we got success. If we edged games 2-1 or 1-0 and got to the semis of the Euros or final then i wouldn't care. Playing this attacking football under previous people hasnt worked has it. Best I've ever seen us do is a quarter final
Guest Posted 21 October 2015 Posted 21 October 2015 I think the atmosphere is bad partly because the fans are poor. Do they actually have any songs?
Voll Blau Posted 21 October 2015 Author Posted 21 October 2015 I think the atmosphere is bad partly because the fans are poor. Do they actually have any songs? None that won't be drowned out by those parping twats in the England band.

Not even interested in paying to watch them at the minute.
