Izzy Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 As a proud old skool traditionalist, it's a big no from me. Just another example of whats wrong with today's modern game. I'm not 'offended' by half and half stuff but find it a bit weird. Suppose it might be a nice memento if you're into that sort of thing. Or just buy a match day programme instead?
Wymsey Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Half Forest, half Derby / Half Coventry, half Villa.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 That was probably a once in a lifetime game, but it was also when HalfScarves were a new thing. Now we see them every week! I don't understand how there can be a market for Leicester vs Norwich scarves. Have these shite things trickled down to the championship yet? Step right up and grab your Half-Preston North End, Half-QPR scarf they were far from new at that point
fuchsntf Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Claire Dohlan is trying to do a salespitch, with no understanding of the hardcore football fan. Then has the audacity to use an old cliche towards the fans as being tribal. She sounds like some geek from the Apprentice, she should get payed half n half... 50% Sterling...50% euro.
Górnik Leicester Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 As a fan of Polish football, I have a couple: Górnik Zabrze - Wisłoka Dębica Legia Warsaw - Pogoń Szczecin. In Poland, half-and-half scarves are extremely common, as fans of clubs don't just have rivalries, but also friendships. Lots of it stems from hooligan groups who have shared hatred of teams, or alliances against other alliances. Lech Poznań/Cracovia/Arka Gdynia have a big rivalry against Śląsk Wrocław/Wisła Kraków/Lechia Gdańsk. It's not uncommon to see half-and-half scarves with a combination - or in some cases, all three - of those. Some of these friendships break-up though. The Legia/Pogoń scarf I have is no longer available, as the two are no longer allies. I also have a Manchester United/Bayern Munich one in the attic somewhere, from the 1999 Champions League Final.
Guest Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Well up for a ban to be imposed on them. Anyone who wears them require their hard drives checking by the authorities immediately.
Corky Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 As a scarf concept I'm not a huge fan but can see the logic, although it's been taken too far especially seemingly being available for every league match. A shirt is an abomination and looks utterly dreadful.
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Can't stand them although my 7 year old nephew does have a Leicester/Swansea one on his wall as half his family support Leicester and half Swansea.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 As a scarf concept I'm not a huge fan but can see the logic, although it's been taken too far especially seemingly being available for every league match. A shirt is an abomination and looks utterly dreadful. They'd gone too far when I saw Leicester v Swindon ones for our FA Cup Fourth Round tie. The ones I saw at Norwich v Leicester were a joke too. We'd played them in the league the previous season and been superior to them the season before that.
Jordan Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 I can understand people buying/selling half-and-half scarves as souvenirs, especially for notable games like Cup finals. I just don't understand why every game now features commemorative half-and-half scarves, or why anybody would insist on wearing one (unless it's freezing outside and you really need something keeping your neck warm). Obviously, people can make and buy scarves for whatever they want. But whether or not a h&h scarf is tacky is like the old standard of what is and isn't pornography--you'll know it is what it is when you see it. I can maybe understand a Watford fan buying a 2013 Playoff Final h&h scarf, but a h&h for Leicester vs Watford on Saturday seems ridiculously unnecessary. I know we're in an age where the Internet and information are always in our pockets, but whatever happened to buying a programme and keeping one's ticket if one wants a memento from the game? Not even going to write about half and half shirts...
TOMBlcfc Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 I would never get a club half and half scarf. I do however have an England Ghana one. I'm english but my dad always worked in Ghana when I was growing up so he got me shirts and stuff so I always supported them (if I'm honest at times more than england). I bought the scarf at the england ghana friendly at wembley around 5 years ago, funnily enough I was in the ghana end with a few people my dad knew from ghana. I was even on telly booing Danny Welbeck when he came on to make his debut! (Could have chosen Ghana btw)
Jattdogg Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Absolute joke if you ask me. Not only that but they look like crap. Why would you even want to wear that rubbish? Or worse make it wall art in your bedroom. Might as well start selling Labour-conservative gear.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 I have a Metalist Kharkiv - Newcastle one. Of all the half and half scarves to end up with...
Górnik Leicester Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Here are the two scarves I have: And here is one that, by the looks of it, is certain to make peoples' blood boil:
Jordan Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 In the interests of full disclosure, I have a Barcelona vs Valencia half-and-half from their 2000 Champions League semifinal tie. I bought it at a tag sale in New Jersey for $1.
AyewJoking Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 I picked up a Leicester v Real Madrid half and half scarf. Doesn't mean i support Real Madrid, it's just a souvenir for a fixture we'll probably never see again until next seasons champions league
Andrelton Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 The shirts are aesthetically garish, and I think there's a bit more reverence surrounding shirts than scarves. So sure I might throw a half and half scarf in a box of souvenirs for a fiver, but wouldn't take a shirt for free.
Raj Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Anyone with a half and half shirt should be annually buggered. Scarfes OK for crappy teams if they play a big boy...ie Salford v Leicester for example...any other case, they too should be buggered! The bloke on the corner with his stall sells this crap for every game.....yes mate I really want a LCFC v WAtford half half scarf!!! cvnt

He sells some absolute tat including Liverpool, Man United and Man City scarves at every game? What the f**k is that all about?
Fox92 Posted 10 November 2015 Posted 10 November 2015 Who is that bloke? He sells some absolute tat including Liverpool, Man United and Man City scarves at every game? What the f**k is that all about? The one who stands opposite Burnmoor Street? If it is, I used to buy badges from him but now he doesn't have badges anymore (nobody around our ground does anymore) just a load of half and half scarves. On Saturday I saw a Leicester/Barcelona one with Lineker on.
MC Prussian Posted 10 November 2015 Posted 10 November 2015 I didn't even know half-and-half shirts existed up until I started browsing this thread! What an absolutely ugly trend - why support two teams in the same league and then wear one shirt that represents both teams? Is it to protect yourself from a bad run of form if you only support one club - is it the fear of being associated with "losers"? Is the other team supposed to make up for that? Just... plain wrong.
