The Horse's Mouth Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Villa and Neville would be a beautiful catastrophe
Guest Col city fan Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 this thread.... Neville note to self....take your time, don't shoot your mouth off, don't run before you can walk. The end.
Vardinhio Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 I really like Neville but this has been a disaster for him, surely he can not go back to being the direct pundit he was, no one would take what he says seriously.
EnderbyFox Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Phil to take over and lead Valencia on a late surge to the champions league, you heard it here first
AKCJ Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Shame. Would have been nice to have a young English manager doing really well for himself abroad but it was clearly a gamble. He'll get a decent gig in England this summer, no doubt.

Attentively. Now when he says such and such should do something....nah, really Gary? Shame. Would have been nice to have a young English manager doing really well for himself abroad but it was clearly a gamble. He'll get a decent gig in England this summer, no doubt. Hmmmmm....

Really? It's not like he has failed at Grimsby. If he had failed in England then I could see your point but the difference in language, mentality and culture is the reason he's failed. Surely that is pretty obvious?
Jimothy Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 They've basically waited until he left to go do his England duties and then just told him not to bother coming back.
Samilktray Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Surprised Col hasn't told us about how he predicted this 7 years ago
J.Lisemore Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Hopefully takes over a League 1 or 2 side and proves his worth. Talks a good talk yes, but is he really a manager? we'll see.
marko Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 I had the same thought. Pre Valencia, he'd talk tactics and we'd all listen. Attentively. Now when he says such and such should do something....nah, really Gary? Hmmmmm.... Yeah, because it's not like he didn't learn from arguably the greatest domestic manager to grace these shores. He might not make a manager, but to question his tactical awareness is churlish.
Guest Col city fan Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Yeah, because it's not like he didn't learn from arguably the greatest domestic manager to grace these shores. He might not make a manager, but to question his tactical awareness is churlish. Absolutely I think it will be difficult to listen to him saying that a certain manager should do a certain thing at a certain time, when talking about football matches. He's made a right Royal fook up of this. It will take time to listen to him in the same way as I did before. Or at least it will be for me. And I doubt I'll be the only one. Far from it. I'm sure he'll be back in a job soon. Football is like that, make a pigs ear of one job and walk into the next one.
ScouseFox Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 i will happily listen to him analyse what mistakes a certain defender has made or how good a midfield performance someone has given on a monday night without thinking "BUT YOU LOST TO SPORTING GIJON YA MELT" not gonna lie
Izzy Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Always was a strange and surprising appointment, I'm not surprised it all went tits up. Neville will have to return home with his tail between his legs and go learn his trade in the lower leagues like young managers should do. Still time on his side to eventually be a top boss. Learn to walk before you try to run young man..
Tevez Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Nothing to be ashamed of, Same with Moyes. The British game does not suit Spanish Football.
ScouseFox Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 who the hell would turn down the job of managing valencia?
Fox92 Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 Why would you reject a side like Valencia. It was a great opportunity for him. But what he should have done is probably start in the football league (like Hasselbaink did as an example).
ScouseFox Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 i'm sure he would have started at barnsley or oldham if he was offered the chance, or if he felt like it. but he was randomly and surprisingly given a chance to manage a champions league team in spain so he took it. he was shit. now he can go to rochdale if he wants. pretty straightforward.
MC Prussian Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 I found it very strange that he was allowed to work for the England national team whilst simultaneously managing a rather famous, ambitious and important La Liga club. Conflict of interest? Or someone just in it for the money? Should've never been appointed in the first place, but hindsight is a beautiful thing. English managers abroad are an almost 100% guaranteed failure.

Vacamion Posted 30 March 2016 Posted 30 March 2016 English managers abroad are an almost 100% guaranteed failure. Woy. Oh and Bobby Robson.
Captain... Posted 25 April 2016 Posted 25 April 2016 So since Neville left Valencia lost their first game without him, then took 10 points from 4 games including beating Barca and climbing to 8th in the table.

MC Prussian Posted 25 April 2016 Posted 25 April 2016 Woy. Oh and Bobby Robson. Oh, I'll give you Hodgson. Nothing but fond memories of managing Switzerland and taking the national team to the 1994 World Cup. Robson with Barcelona - also a good shout. But how many else have failed? And how many are afraid of the step outside the comfort zone, I wonder?
