Dan Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Bit Harsh. Athletico at home very tough game and was a v good win for them mid week. Needs more wins if he's gonna be there next season though I feel. Atletico are a very good side but it all changes a bit if you see Valencia as more of an Arsenal sized club. Appreciate that their situation is a bit different but their fans won't take getting slapped at home by Bilbao.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 Valencia played a decent game. Goalkeeper should have saved the 3rd but Atheltico will go places this season with their defence and Griezmann. im sure someone should investigate that third goal. the keeper genuinely moved out the way. like nothing ive ever seen before.

However they have been a total mess on and off for years, no one is going to walk in and sort it out straight away.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2016 Posted 7 March 2016 this is that third goal btw. absolutely remarkable goalkeeping.
filbertway Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 Lost again yesterday didn't they? Aye, to the bottom of the league. They remind me a lot of Newcastle, you look at the team and wonder how they are struggling so badly. Then you watch them play and just see a bunch of lazy uninterested players looking nothing like a team.

Captain... Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 Bottom of the league! Neville's record there is becoming truly abysmal. It was a local derby, Levante are the second team in Valencia, but it is still a poor result. I think Gary needs to finish the season as strongly as possible and then walk away, he will have learnt a huge amount, but should be looking for a league 1 or 2 club and earn his next big job not have it handed to him.

His hands were tied with regards to taking the job. His brother and mate were already there but it's still a bloody difficult job. He was right in saying that there was no way he could turn it down but it was obviously a massive step up. Still firmly believe he'll do very well in England.

I'm sure he will, he has done his caching badges and knows the game, is an excellent pundit, but he needs to learn how to be a manager and doing that at a huge club in a foreign country was a massive risk, one that hasn't really paid off. A huge part of management is the psychological side, getting players motivated, confident and playing freely, this is such a difficult thing to do, throw in a language and cultural barrier then it becomes so much harder. He should go to a smaller club learn how to manage, and manage players that aren't used to the best managers in the world and develop his own style and philosophy. If we look at Pearson, he had been around a bit, a few caretaker jobs, assistant manager, came in to a club at it's lowest ebb and in many ways the pressure was off and he could build his own style in the relative comfort of league one.
Dan Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 I honestly would like to see him succeed as I like the bloke but the whole situation is a farce really. It should never have come to this for Valencia.
Finnegan Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 When you can't beat Levante with a team that good it's because the players don't want to work.

Sorry but again you make little sense. His hands weren't tied. It can't have been about money...Neville must be a multi millionaire anyway. Literally, no one forced him to take this job which has become a poisoned chalice. I think he became simply greedy. If he wanted to get into football management proper, he should have used his noddle, taken a job that was less under the spotlight and built up. You know, like managers used to? He took on a project that was too big, too messy...and at the moment his wanting to be too successful, too soon is biting him on the Arse. I'm surprised. I thought he had more common sense than that. It seems these days that common sense is at a premium. There is STILL no substitute for doing it the Cloughie or the Fergy way. Start smaller, learn your trade, make mistakes and use your experience. Neville became Billy big ones too soon.
Bert Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 The worst thing about this for Neville is that this start has already tarnished his managerial career.

Or at least, not yet... Over and out before you get all uneccessary again...
Dan Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 The worst thing about this for Neville is that this start has already tarnished his managerial career. Arguably but I still think there are plenty of clubs in England who would go for him. Oldham or someone for example. Granted it isn't the best but you've got to start somewhere and that somewhere isn't Valencia. All hope not yet lost with him me thinks.

As it happens, he has tried and failed. You act like he was going to say "yeah sorry Valencia, but I'm going to wait until the Coventry job becomes available".
filbertway Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 Don't see why he'd have lost respect for turning down a job offer from his mate in a foreign country.
AKCJ Posted 14 March 2016 Posted 14 March 2016 Don't see why he'd have lost respect for turning down a job offer from his mate in a foreign country. People would have looked at him as another pundit who would rather sit on his chair and criticise rather than actually going out and putting themselves in the hot seat. I don't think English football followers actually acknowledge how big of a club Valencia are. It was a massive opportunity and he had his brother and best mate there already.

As it happens, he has tried and failed. You act like he was going to say "yeah sorry Valencia, but I'm going to wait until the Coventry job becomes available". Surely if he was going to start a decent managerial career this is exactly what he would have done? Would he have even been applying for "top" jobs had he not been gifted this one? Of all the lower league managers in the England to lose their jobs this season, he probably didnt make any contact with any of the clubs. The news would have been all over it if he had. If i was offered a job i was in no way qualified for and highly likely to mess up, would I be making a good decision taking it? Thats exactly what Neville did. Hes a good pundit, he can sit and press play and pause on a machine and talk about football. Any number of people could do that reasonably.

You're only saying that because you can't help but disagree with me lol There is no was on Earth that a sane person turns down the Valencia job, especially compared to "lower league" jobs. He was one of the most respected coaches in English football because of his work with the national side, he has all of the badges and is clearly a bloody intelligent bloke who knows the game inside out. The only thing he needed to do was go out and get himself a job. It just so happened that the Valencia job landed on his doorstep.
