SystonFox Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Aren't Coventry doing it? Hardly through choice eh pal in caps PAL?
MC Prussian Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Add another level underneath the current ground floor - why the need to raise the roof when you can dig yourself a new hole? Okay, maybe better not follow Zurich's lead - just don't use the Letzigrund Stadium as a model case:
Great Boos Up Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Another tier on the east stand and increase the visitors allocation by swinging them round into a bit of the family stand. You will all hate it but it covers all bases for the next 2/3 years.
promised land Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Adding the 8 thousand in our current position seems a no Brainer. With European football likely next season. The work could be carried out during the close season and ready in time for the new season. The closed season is nowhere near long enough to extend a stand. 2 1/2 - 3 months, you're in cloud cookoo land chap.
tyfox Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 im sure i read somewhere ages ago the owners were applying to expand the stadium to 42k i might be wrong though
Fatbloke Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Would another tier on the east stand enable another row of exec boxes too ? there is a waiting list for them and they bring in megga bucks !
Wymsey Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Would another tier on the east stand enable another row of exec boxes too ? there is a waiting list for them and they bring in megga bucks ! Boxes are located in the West stand.
SystonFox Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Boxes are located in the West stand. Alright Leicesterpool that's not what he asked is it. If they put more seats on the EAST STAND could you put more boxes in between the two tiers. Crikey
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 I can tell you that the plans in place are to extend the East stand and the Kop.I hope this gets the go aheadWe need it to kick on
Spudulike Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 8000 extra. East stand only. As soon as possible. Then expand again on south and north stands (to keep it symmetrical!) if we are still selling out on a weekly basis a couple of years later. 8000 on the East Stand will make it humongous, won't it ??
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Another tier on the east stand and increase the visitors allocation by swinging them round into a bit of the family stand. You will all hate it but it covers all bases for the next 2/3 years. Wouldn't need to expand the away fans' allocation, the 3200 we give them already would still be enough by league rules.
Len Finsbury Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Aren't Coventry doing it? Of course, although not due to outgrowing their current one!
Finn Claw II Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Any idea how quickly expansion could take place, presumably a year minimum? Given you'd have to take the roof off, the cheapest long-term strategy is to build all three sides at once. At least the structure, if not the actual seats. The ground might look a bit odd though. Moneywise I don't think it is the be all and end all. £300 a season ticket x 20,000 is 'only' £6m per year. Even adding in some more for increased advertising and sponsorship, PL TV money is what really matters.
MooseBreath Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Cardiff's recent expansion of 8k took about 9 months and cost about £12m, so you'd be looking at similar figures. Interestingly their expansion has already been closed off because they're averaging gates of 14k (less than half their capacity even before the expansion) back in the championship. I don't think we're at risk of relegation nor are we as fickle as they are but it demonstrates the risks.
Voll Blau Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Standing sections would be the easiest way to expand the stadium's capacity. Also the best insurance policy for when times aren't so good again as those kind of areas would still get packed out.
Len Finsbury Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Standing sections would be the easiest way to expand the stadium's capacity. Also the best insurance policy for when times aren't so good again as those kind of areas would still get packed out. We can dream...
tylesta Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 The closed season is nowhere near long enough to extend a stand. 2 1/2 - 3 months, you're in cloud cookoo land chap. you can still do work on the stand during the season, cardiff, liverpool and mancity all did it
Len Finsbury Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 you can still do work on the stand during the season, cardiff, liverpool and mancity all did it That'll reduce the capacity though, won't it? If we're confident enough to say that this is the first successful year of many, then it won't be an issue. However, if it's a one-off, it'd be a shame to reduce the amount of spectators. Wait and see what this and next season bring first, I think. Then go for it.
Wymsey Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Let's hope the club has an easy-going Health and Safety planning consultant to make any expansion happen.
Len Finsbury Posted 9 December 2015 Posted 9 December 2015 Let's hope the club has an easy-going Health and Safety planning consultant to make any expansion happen. Use the same one as when it was built. I'm sure that's probably where all our money went to!
lcfcbobby Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 if I remember rightly the ground was built with the possibility of increasing the capacity to 35,000 without requiring any major structural improvements so I think that we should do that first and then approach this subject in another few years . I must admit though with the atmosphere we have at the minute who can blame the owners for not wanting to change anything.
Hollism Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 I thought t was up to 55k we could do relatively easily?
foxgas Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 Its not just about capacity, parking is already a nightmare. We use park and ride for Saturday 3 pm kickoffs but these close at 7pm so evening and Sunday match's are difficult. The Rugby world cup managed to bus people direct to the ground but the brainless council are considering closing park and ride sites to save money, just shows what they think of us football fans.
simon789us Posted 10 December 2015 Posted 10 December 2015 I think they should swap the kop with the family stand too[/quote How does swapping give you a bigger ground
