A bigger stadium, what are the options?

An expansion will make the ground look really nice as well, even another tier on the East Stand will look impressive. I don't think the ground looks too bad now either but an expansion will improve it's appearance further in my opinion.

It's not just the team that has to grow to the next level. You have to grow the Stadium to meet demand, And there's no better time than when you're on the up.

If you don't then you will likely lose Fans. Surely as a Prem club now we can support a 40k seater stadium. But it is important to keep the Atmosphere also.

Folk want to expand so it will look nicer??? Guarantee that if we finished 10th for a few years running we wouldn't fill a 40,000 stadium week in week out. Many empty stadiums each week currently in the prem.

Yeah cause that's how supply and demand works.

Adding the 8 thousand in our current position seems a no Brainer.  With European football likely next season. The work could be carried out during the close season and ready in time for the new season.

Likely?

That's never going to happen, planning permission & red tape will see to that even before you factor in construction time.

I think it's time to seriously consider expanding the stadium with the way things are going. Some on here claim plans are in place and that wouldn't surprise me. European football is a distinct possibility in the next few seasons and demand is currently high.

A new stadium is a no-goer for me though. Not for another 20-30 years at least. I can't imagine a better plot of land to build on than the one the stadium currently occupies. If there isn't a better place in the city, I wouldn't want us moved out to the sticks or the outskirts. Knocking the stadium down and building a new one at Filbert Way would require a temporary relocation. I wouldn't want to see us play at Pride Park, the City Ground or the Ricoh Arena while we wait.

Let's look at the bigger picture, you have to speculate to accumulate. Aim high.

A couple of things to bare in mind - How are we perceived as a club to potential signings? Will we fill it week in week out?

A bigger, more impressive stadium is a better sell to any potential signing. O'Neill once spoke about having to walk potential new signings out of the tunnel backwards so they would look up at the impressive Carling stand and be amazed, as opposed to looking at the awful looking East stand. So in my eyes, we could attract a higher calibur of player by having a more impressive stadium.

Second point it on wether we fill it or not. From my calculations, even if we only managed to sell an extra 2500 tickets per home game (which is a conservative estimate seeing as we would sell more when the bigger clubs came to town), that would generate an extra income of roughly £1.9m per season for the club. Not only is that a decent amount of money, it would also bring in more fans who would spend more money on merchandise and hopefully become lifelong fans of the club. With extra fans, even if we were to be relegated, we could possibly retain a bigger fan base and still have bigger attendances than the last time we were in the Championship.

Growth is important for any business and seeing as that is what football clubs are now, I believe it is essential to expand the stadium as soon as possible before there is a possible decline in numbers. The club failed to push on once before when we were riding on the crest of a wave and we paid the price because of the failure to invest, let's not make the same mistake twice!

Up The Foxes!

I think reducing the away allocations by a 1000 and seeing if we could sell those seats would be a good start.

You're not allowed? Have to allocate something like 10% of capacity

8000 extra. East stand only. As soon as possible.

Then expand again on south and north stands (to keep it symmetrical!) if we are still selling out on a weekly basis a couple of years later.

Rebuilding one stand/side at a time in the style of Old Trafford would be the best way to go. We've got to try and fit all of those new ex-Chelsea, Man U and Man City fans in somehow.

Bloody Nora. 15 games into the new season and people are already talking about needing a new stadium!

lol

I swear I never seen another stadium expansion thread before.

Would love to hear what is being considered behind closed doors. As many have said there are structural issues with expanding the ground. I wonder if that means in practice it may be feasible to just build a new stadium entirely. I doubt it - but it's not impossible.

They must at least have had it priced up you'd think. Building something more attractive and long term might appeal to the owners as a status symbol.

It's stupid thinking about it now that we didn't plan for this in the original designs - especially as the original new stadium on Bede island was going to be 40k.

Carling stand was torn down after what, 9 years? Not unheard of.
