Crazy Stat Time!

I think the conversion rate of big chances is a better measure of finishing quality than the shots to goals ratio. I suspect we do well on the latter as we take very few long shots and generally try to work a good opening before we shoot.

Sure, but the more stats you factor in the clearer the overall picture is.

In the past 30 years, just one second-tier champion has had a run of three or more consecutive league losses. That was Reading in 2011-12. But their four defeats on the bounce came in August and September, right at the start of the campaign, before they were in a promotion push. Otherwise, it just doesn’t happen. Sure, nearly every second-tier title-winner over the past 30 years has had a blip, but they don’t lose three in a row at the business-end of the season.

They have to prove they are a rarity: a side that can lose three matches in a row and still win the league. You have to go back 53 years to find the last time a second-division champion lost three games in a row in the second half of a season. Of course, it was Leicester City. They responded by going the rest of the campaign unbeaten. It’s time for a repeat.

Well for the last 3 games, we've not scored the most and have conceded the most in each game. We've lost them all too. Hope that helps?

But if we had the best xg the best pass accuracy the most shots and possession … we still lost the games ….because we scored less than the opposition…. Is my point

HT: Man City 0-1 Man Utd

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 143 Premier League matches when leading at half-time (W123, D20) dating back to 21 September 2014 against Leicester City (5-3 defeat).

That might change in the next 45 mins...

Arsenal have scored five or more in three successive away games in the Premier League. That's only ever been done once before in the top flight - by Burnley in September 1961 - like this:

Birmingham City (a)  6-2

Leicester City (a) 6-2

Fulham (a) 5-3

Yep - we were one of the victims. And just like Arsenal at Bramall Lane, Burnley scored four in the first 25 minutes. So what was the response of the Leicester fans? Did we walk out en masse, like Sheffield United last night?

No.

The Filbert Street partisans forgot they were Leicester City fans last night and saluted Burnley's magnificent football with a half time ovation. Their team were being systematically crushed by a Burnley attack that was simplicity itself. The key was dazzling speed on the wings - John Connelly and Gordon Harris -  whence came fast, low balls that other white-shirted figures were usually in a position to receive. Every time the formula was repeated the Leicester defence was torn apart

That was Leicester Evening Mail reporter Billy King

17 year-old Graham Cross was making only his third senior start that night. His second had come a week earlier in Leicester's first ever European game - away at Glenavon in the Cup Winners Cup. We won that 4-1, and a week after the Burnley game came the second leg, when Leicester fans were once again appreciating the opposition. This time, though, it was out of sympathy for the hopeless plight of the Irish team. With us 3-1 up on the night, and 7-2 ahead on aggregate, we started cheering every Glenavon attack.

That season was a bit of a tragedy for Burnley. They looked to be cruising to the title. In February they were four points clear with two games in hand. And they made it through to the Cup Final too. But they ended up with nothing.

Meanwhile, how did Leicester boss Matt Gillies respond to that 6-2 defeat? Shortly after, he signed his own flying winger - Mike Stringfellow. The following season it was us who were chasing the double and drawing applause at grounds all over the country.

Having more information/stats for X, Y and Z doesn't get rid of, take away or replace the score or the result though does it...?

Journalists don’t use the word “whence” enough these days.

I suppose it's how you define irrelevant....

If you think they only stats that should ever be looked at, analysed or used in a way that might be useful are goals scored and the final score, then I'm afraid you'd be quite out of step with what modern football is.

It's more competitive and of a higher standard than it's ever been, and a big part of that is the data and analysis that is available - of both the games and players.

Why would you want to have less information for understanding football?

Done.

Strange though innit.... play well and lose games, play poorly and win :dunno:
