Guest Col city fan Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Just listening to the Stoke v Liverpool game, it's pretty clear that Liverpool are lacking a natural finisher at the club. This made me think of who was the most natural finisher I'd ever seen play in a game, against City. The best I can think of was Robbie Fowler who, I think, scored four in a 1-5 loss at Filbert Street, when we were under Peter Taylor (if my memory serves me right). Fowler that day was absolutely sensational and unstoppable. Who is the most natural finisher you've seen play against City?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 All the usual Premier League names from the MON era but one player who seemed to consistently finish impressively against us in both divisions was Kevin Phillips.
shen Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Ruud van Nistelrooy is up there with the best I've seen. Pippo Inzaghi and Henke Larsson also had a fantastic knack of being able to prod the ball home from anywhere in the penalty area.
CharlieCharles Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Luis Suarez. Class above, you have to watch him for 90 minutes to really appreciate what he does.
Soar Fox Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 I've seen some fantastic strikers over the years mostly when we played at filbert street. Andy Cole, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Kevin Phillips, Dennis Bergkamp, Michael Owen and plenty more. But the best I'd say was Alan Shearer. He was strong, good in the air, great finisher in the box, could score goals outside the area. The complete striker. Luis Suarez. Class above, you have to watch him for 90 minutes to really appreciate what he does. Can't remember Suarez ever playing against us.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 I remember thinking that Kenny Miller was an impressive finisher when I saw Leicester play Wolves at Molineux, can't remember year though

orangecity23 Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 I remember when we played Monaco a few years back, before Falcao turned into a shambling zombie. He did absolutely nothing all game, the ball came near him for a microsecond, and it was in the net, before your brain could even process what was happening. At his peak he was a ridiculous finisher, especially when he was at Athletico Madrid.

David Guiza Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Henry pretty much every time we got battered by Arsenal, so many different types of goals too. Shearer and Andy Cole were pretty fantastic in their day too.
Tom17LCFC Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 I swear there's a stat out there that fowler was the top scorer at Filbo street the year we went down.
shen Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Luis Suarez. Class above, you have to watch him for 90 minutes to really appreciate what he does. For every brilliant strike he would sky or skew four or five horribly wide. At least at Ajax and Liverpool.
AKCJ Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 If you watch a Nugent YouTube video I bet he looks like a world beater. Some of his finishes were ****ing brilliant. Trouble is it took 6/7 chances for him to bag.
katieakita Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Watched a very old way past his prime Jimmy Greaves play at the end of his career vs Cheltenham weight and alcohol had taken their toll did sweet fa all goal swear he touched the ball twice in the whole game. Cheltenham lost 2 nil he scored both.
EnderbyFox Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Michael Owen in his prime, oh my. Shame he's got the personality of a piece of cardboard now he commentates
ScouseFox Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 against us ruuuuuud probs. was at anfield when torres ruined derby (think it was 6-0). ridic.
SpacedX Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Great thread. Dennis Bergkamp. In respect of Liverpool, Ian Rush. April '84 - the best memory I have from Filbert Street, (other than the the encounter with Arsenal in '97), also finished 3-3 and showcased Rush and Lineker at their finest.
StanSP Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 From who I've seen live, Thierry Henry came to mind first. Not only did he play with so much elegance and suave, but he finished so calmly and never looked like any defender or goal-keeper could put him off. Van Nistelrooy loved to score against us, too. He made things look very easy.
davieG Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 From a while back Denis Law followed by Jimmy Greaves
Stadt Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 against us ruuuuuud probs. was at anfield when torres ruined derby (think it was 6-0). ridic. Being very young and impressionable watching Torres at the peak of his powers was amazing, he'd burst clear and finish almost every time, I wanted to be Torres
Dan Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 One who springs to mind is Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The bloke was an absolute master finisher.
Izzy Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 In respect of Liverpool, Ian Rush. April '84 - the best memory I have from Filbert Street, (other than the the encounter with Arsenal in '97), also finished 3-3 and showcased Rush and Lineker at their finest. What a night that was. Filbo was heaving and I'll always remember that Andy Peake goal which almost uprooted Grobelaars net. Most natural finisher I've seen v Leicester is probably Henry. He seemed to rip us a new one every time he played against us.
Soar Fox Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 You forget how many good English strikers we had in the 90's. Ian Wright Les Ferdinand Andy Cole Alan Shearer Teddy Sheringham Robbie Fowler Michael Owen
Ross-Kemp Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Shearer Van Nistlerooy Henry Inzaghi Torres Owen
