The Doctor Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Breaking news on the beeb now, died of cancer.
pSinatra Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Shocked Creatively, one of the greatest. A bit hit & miss for me, but when it was good it was excellent. RIP
The Doctor Posted 11 January 2016 Author Posted 11 January 2016 Woops - clicked computers rather than music on my phone, can someone move it across please
ozleicester Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 wow, you know your getting old, when guys like Bowie are dropping
SystonFox Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 I'm stunned, I didn't even know he was ill. Me either. Was it common knowledge? Rip. Ashes to ashes
bovril Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Me neither. Changed British music and culture for ever. Rip.
johnny the fox Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Gutted.. didn't know he was ill... major part of my youth gone.. feel fookin old this morning,, RIP ziggy.
davieG Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Never a big fan but there's no doubting the massive influence he had on the music scene. RIP
Fox92 Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Actually gutted (didn't know he was ill). One of the greatest ever, an absolute genius.
Alf Bentley Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Stunned about this in so many ways. Apparently he'd been ill with cancer for 18 months, but managed to keep it secret - the CIA and MI5 could learn from that level of secrecy. I'd just ordered his new album (released last Friday) and am expecting delivery today. It sounds absolutely excellent from snippets I've heard. Simply one of the most creative, innovative artistes of my lifetime (or most other lifetimes). Feel very emotional about this one. If I was forced to choose, I'd still have this track down as my favourite song ever, by anyone (the Anglo-German extended version of "Heroes" from the "Wir Kinder" film soundtrack):
Guest MattP Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Very upsetting, no words really needed, we've lost an absolute legend.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 It's a sad loss for sure; in terms of his significance to people of around my age and mindset probably one of the most important cultural figures. Had much more impact on me than the Beatles, Stones, Kinks and so forth
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 I was never much of a fan if I'm being honest. Not intentionally, I just didn't really listen to Bowie much. But he was a genius, no doubt. One of my best mates this morning is absolutely gutted. He'd followed him for decades and seen him perform across the globe. RIP.
Buzzell Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Didn't realise he was ill. Such an inspiration to many artist's nowadays. R.I.P Bowie.
MC Prussian Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Wow, that came unexpected. Very sad about that loss, he was a true chameleon, re-inventing himself and his music on a constant basis and gave us some classics whose charm and energy will last forever. I remember going to the V & A museum a few years back, seeing his glorious exhibit. R.I.P., legend. And I mean that.
Mike Oxlong Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Not normally affected by "celebrity" stuff but I'm gutted at this news. Had some great times listening to his music and enjoyed giving Blackstar a listen over the weekend. Sad day.
Fox92 Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 "I stumble into town just like a sacred cow Visions of swastikas in my head". Always been one of my favourite lyrics ever, don't know why. Just listened to 'China Girl', great stuff.
cambridgefox Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Like him or loathe him he was a musical genius ahead of his time.Very clever man. What a sad,sad day. RIP
Samilktray Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust is gonna be on repeat today.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 11 January 2016 Posted 11 January 2016 I was listening to his new album last night, so shocked. Blackstar seems quite prophetic now actually.
