Lambert09 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Never thought I would see the day! I'm currently working as a teacher in Thailand, at the start of this year my home class all asked me "whos your favourite football team" . Despite being Thai owned none of my 10-11 year olds knew who we were. To my utter amazement yesterday they were doing a piece of work on their favourite things.... half the boys in my class all put Leicester down.... Now im not sure if this is because Ive brain washed them by telling them how great we are or if this is just part and parcel of being successful in a country whose own football league is a joke. Has anyone else noticed this back home in England? Maybe our owners have finally started capturing the Asian market?!? I should really take more pictures because we seem to be popping up all over the country, I constantly see news reports at our training ground and ive seen Vardy on the front of numerous football magazines. Either way its nice to be able to share the smiles of this incredible season with some of the locals.
Vlad the Fox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I want to see a video of your class singing 'we love you Leicester' (like the one posted a couple of years back) or I don't believe your a teacher, in Thailand, called lambert09, or even exist.
foxes161 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 people will be ripping up their man united tops for leicester tops..madness I did read an article stating at christmas time the leicester shop had record sales and who knows how many bought stuff that weren't fans before.
Lestoh Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I can only assume you've not told them of the Pearson boy's adventures in Bangkok
davieG Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Let them come, the more success we have the more fans we'll need to not be called tin pot or a flash in the pan.
Itsthejoeker Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I teach kids in the city and they're all talking about Leicester for a change
Lambert09 Posted 14 January 2016 Author Posted 14 January 2016 I can only assume you've not told them of the Pearson boy's adventures in Bangkok That was my first lesson, make sure you dont get caught.
HKFox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Very similar here in Hong Kong. I coach football to a few hundred kids here, and they all are suddenly asking if there team name can be Leicester and if they can be vardy or Mahrez. Previously last few years the class have always should Leicester are rubbish, a great change !
mozartfox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I work part-time in Malaysia and the Premier League is very big there, with mainly a Manure and Liverpool fan base. Once a taxi driver knows you are English, the conversation always shifts quickly on to football and who do you support. Now, they all know about Leicester whereas previously we were 'unknown'. So yes, I can see our profile growing, all be it still quite slowly. I have not seen any copy shirts yet down the Chinese Market, but may be soon!
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I work in a primary school near Crystal Palace, all the kids support the london clubs, and a few man u fans too, but there is one city fan here, his dad and the lad are season ticket holders, so we have chats regularly. It seems Vardy is very popular with the kids, and many of them seem to have adopted us as their second team and celebrate our wins with me. It's a great time to be a city fan
Finnegan Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Honestly not insecure enough to give a ****. Surely any club wants more fans? As long as I can still get a ticket I'm not really fussed who wants to wear a city shirt.
Guest TaggertvsWise Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I work in Liverpool and the anti Leicester mentality in my office now (formerly it was a "great result, you boys are doing really well") goes to show the strides we are making. A few of them really applaud us and cab drivers tend to be really impressed but some people are desperate for us to get out of the way of the big boys. Must be a good sign! As for 'bandwaggon' supporters, let them come, why not, the more the merrier in my opinion.
SportsNut1908 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Down south it was all laughs & giggles at the start, now it's 'lucky bastards' 'lucky' 'Long ball crap' 'bunch of hackers'. So we must be doing something right
americanfox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 American fans ask me how long I've been supporting Leicester now, versus the "what's that club?" I got even last year or two years ago. Been called a glory hunter ffs! hahaha
promised land Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 American fans ask me how long I've been supporting Leicester now, versus the "what's that club?" I got even last year or two years ago. Been called a glory hunter ffs! hahaha But can they find Leicester on a map? The square in London is probably as near as they get.
Jordan Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Back in 2008, I got shit (light-heartedly, to be fair) about being a Leicester fan from people in Leicester that supported other teams. "Glory hunting" is probably almost as bad in your backyard than it is anywhere else! I wouldn't be too bothered by this as Leicester are winning plaudits--and, yes, new fans--for many good reasons, as opposed to, say, Chelsea or Man City for buying the title.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Well I work in Leicester and I still work with more fans of other football teams than Leicester fans. Liverpool being main team.
yorkie1999 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 American fans ask me how long I've been supporting Leicester now, versus the "what's that club?" I got even last year or two years ago. Been called a glory hunter ffs! hahaha The guy that took me round central park last week in a pedal-trike asked where i was from, when i told him " Ahh Leicester City" was his reply
Staffs Fox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 No but I've been called a Glory Hunter! I mean there is nothing Glorious about getting a train full of Sheffield Wednesdays fans after they've just pretty much relegated you to the third tier! After that experience I never thought I'd be called a glory hunter less than 10 years later
deep blue Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I am off to Malaysia on satday and will take my leic shirt - see what reaction I get. Did the same 15 years ago and got into conversation with a local guy in the llttle India district in Singapore. He had trouble pronouncing "Leicester", but "Tony cottee" was instantly recognisable.
Thracian Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Quite apart from our position at or around the top of the table this season our games have been so exciting. Yes, last night's was a different kind of excitement to some of the others but a real tussle between two teams equally determined to win. For me it was utterly enthralling. Our status has changed dramatically this season. Not only have people learned our names and enjoyed watching us but here's a real respect among football people too. Not too long ago people might have pencilled in Leicester City as one of their better chances to win points. Now they see them as more like Stoke - damned difficult opponents in all sorts of ways.
Aberdeenfox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 I'm up in north east scotland and a lot of mates / work colleagues keep commenting on us recently Probably because i can't stop speaking about us - STAND FREE !!!!! Huuuuuuuuuuth heider booooof
hackneyfox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 My lad is friends via XBox with a Chelsea supporting Scottish lad who lives north of the border. He got a Leicester kit for Xmas.
