BlueBoy1 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Said to a pal a couple of months ago that we should get Remy. He's a quality player with a proven record. To say he's awful is just poor knowledge. Just because we are top, it doesn't mean we can suddenly attract world class players. So what if he's 'old' for a footballer...if he gets us in the CL then who cares. From what I have seen from him, he works hard and is an upgrade on Ulloa and has more composure and a better touch than Okazaki.
MPH Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 How so certain of it being a bargaining chip? Could it not just be that both tick the boxes, so trying for both increases the chances of getting either or both? Pseudo football agents a plenty on here. Plenty of noise coming out saying that Musa is our first choice...
formidable1 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 If you use certain words and phrases that are racist, you have a right to be judged by them. If you don't use those phrases, you don't. It's very simple.Should that not be somebody else has a right to judge you by them?As an aside, nobody has a right to judge anybody. They can though, form an opinion.
formidable1 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Plenty of noise coming out saying that Musa is our first choice...Of that I don't doubt. The player seems to tick all the boxes, both on and off field. Whereas Loic Remy probably isn't seen as the complete package in off the field terms.A bargaining chip is probably not what he is though.
Jordan Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Would you care to explain how you know race has shaped other people's opinions? Or are you just using this as an opportunity to show off to yourself how wonderfully moral you are? It's hardly uncommon for white players to have their attitude questioned so I've no idea how you can claim to know Remy would be treated differently if he were white I used an example right in this very thread. Those are important aspects in what we do at Leicester. Work ethic and contributions to team Play. So that's what people are going to comments on? If you want every comment backed up with evidence then where is your evidence it's to do with color that people ( plural) are basing that on? Sorry Jordan, but you've had an absolute mare, here... People that have no idea what they're talking about are accusing Rémy of being a lazy and selfish player, something that follows a common yet unfortunate trope about black and/or foreign footballers. I never said individuals are just picking him out because he's black, it's just that it's awfully easy for these memes to snowball. Where else does this talk about his attitude come from, or how else can we explain this disparate treatment? Nobody's showing me.I'm sure Jose Mourinho still has enough of a reputation for his opinions on football to be worth something, so I'll take his word on Rémy's attitude, work ethic and ability--plus his focus in big games (which, thankfully, is another thing we need) over a lot of opinions here.
Foxy_jim Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Should that not be somebody else has a right to judge you by them? As an aside, nobody has a right to judge anybody. They can though, form an opinion. But if your opinion is that effectively black players are lazier and have poor attitudes then prepare to be judged as a moron

This is the issue I'm afraid, no one coming up with credible reasoning other than if you have joined the dots yourself, you are now considered a racist and all the moral, high horse brigade stampede all over the post until any possibility of debate is finished. If I started a thread called " cnutish footballers of our time based on attitudes and laziness" and it turned out that 80 percent of the listed names on the thread happened to be non white, it would degenerate into the OP is Adolf Hitler after 5 minutes. Far too many people are incapable of contributing to debate without looking for faux high ground to jump on. It matters not that all available evidence points that way. But if your opinion is that effectively black players are lazier and have poor attitudes then prepare to be judged as a moronSee above

He plays for Chelsea. This season in particular I think anyone who plays for them comes under a little suspicion especially since... He didn't get in their team that often when they were playing badly People questioned whether his move to QPR was for footballing reasons after he looked as if he was going to Newcastle He's a footballer - For me it's now virtually automatic to wonder if a player, any player, has the right attitude when joining a club. I'm sure there are others who feel the same. This is especially true when little is know about his personality. These are all good reasons to open up a conversation about a player's attitude. As I stated in reason four, I think this conversation ought to be had about every player we sign. We haven't heard concrete evidence that shows he's a disruptive character like we have with, say, Balotelli who regularly misbehaved. My personal view is that the comments Mourinho gave are enough to make me not worry about his attitude too much but I'll certainly defend anyone who's facing the accusations you're dishing out.

Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 all the racial stereotype and generalisations. You're not doing much for the poor reputation of the football fan...
gerrytaggart Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 This thread has taken a bit of a turn for the worst!! What have we learnt??
dorsetboy Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 would not mind remy but i cant see us bringing in a 12 million pound player or even 18 million musa to sit on the bench and okazaki is the only player to make way ? gotta feel sorry for the little fella as i feel he is starting to come on now in the prem and find his feet and i doubt the workrate of remy or musa would match that , having seen quite a bit of remy he dosent like tracking after the ball after he has lost it . although is goalscoring is not to shabby and if he can stay injury free he could keep us in that top 4 tough call
Koke Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 People want to blow £20m on a guy who may or may not do it in this league but are turning up their noses at a guy who has a 28 in 44 starts in the Premier League for £11m Other than his injury woes at Chelsea, I dont know what else is the problem with Remy?,

The majority of the strikers we have been linked with are black. Yet Remy, is the only one ( to my knowledge ) that people on FT have accused of being lazy ( note- I'm not saying this is an accurate statement) yet you are saying it's because he is black people are saying he's lazy. I think you are confusing the accuracy of their statement with their motives for saying it. They may well be wrong. Could it not just be that they are wrong and uninformed? Why are they not saying Musa is lazy? Or Niang?

There's a difference between wondering whether a few incidents may speak to a player's character and assuming they do and what they do, without evidence. And I've not accused anybody of anything--I've just pointed out a trope in football. Other people have gotten awfully defensive about my post, though.

gerrytaggart Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Well I have Dennis Wise at No1,2 & 3 as absolute Cnutish footballers agreed. and he comes in at number one on the list of footballers with ironic surnames too.
richm77 Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Remy and musa would be nice then get rid of ulloa so our four choices are strong not for this year but next season too a choice between Vardy Remy musa and Okazaki would be awesome
what? Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 There's a difference between wondering whether a few incidents may speak to a player's character and assuming they do and what they do, without evidence. And I've not accused anybody of anything--I've just pointed out a trope in football. Other people have gotten awfully defensive about my post, though. It's a trope in wider life too. The bar by which we judge any negative character type is held a bit lower for poc.
MPH Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Well I have Dennis Wise at No1,2 & 3 as absolute Cnutish footballers David speedie is still on there for me too... Won't ever forget that playoff dive!
UPinCarolina Posted 30 January 2016 Posted 30 January 2016 Doubting a player's ethic or giving them credit because of the color of their skin is racist as fvck and you should be ashamed of yourself.
