Larry_LCFC Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 This raises another question. As part of the BPL, are these teams in a position to negotiate this without their consent. Are the 'rights' to the clubs owned by the BPL? It would seriously undermine the importance and status of the BPL if it lost its champions league places and it no longer existed. I'm sure they would have alot to say about it.
richardsfoxes Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 I remember when football was about winning and competing for cups and titles rather than scrapping for better financial packages off the pitch.
GaelicFox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Apparently the story is a load of bollocks and they were just discussing an international pre-season tournament. And pigs fly

That has UEFA petrified
Voll Blau Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 I remember when football was about winning and competing for cups and titles rather than scrapping for better financial packages off the pitch. Valid.
davieG Posted 2 March 2016 Author Posted 2 March 2016 European Super League? To hell with the American way - a closed shop is wrong http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/european-super-league-to-hell-with-the-american-way-a-closed-shop-is-wrong-a3193881.html
davieG Posted 2 March 2016 Author Posted 2 March 2016 Barclays premier league Ah ok I just call it The Premer League or the PL Or at worst the English PL. Barclays will be gone next season anyway.
Foxmeister Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 I already find the UCL boring, loved it ages ago when teams played home and away in games that were often never to be repeated. Now Man Utd seem to play Barcelona more times than we play local derbies. If this comes in they will completely isolate the majority of football fans and worse than that on this seasons showing they could have the Champions League without the English champions.
AKCJ Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 My least favourite acronym. gotta disagree with yout there mate smh makes me smh

Sionnach gorm Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 The feckers are trying to set up an American system, where by you are "in" no matter what happens a particular year. Just like American football if a team has a bad year their is no relegation. It's a marketing ploy. It won't work because this culture doesn't exist in Europe. Good luck to them, nobody will watch that shite!

It works ok with usa football because the monies from the game split evenly and the worst teams have the pick of the new players plus the next level down is the university teams.
Dan Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Closed shops and football should never ever mix. They're conceptually flawed.
LJS Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 There will be no super league and nobody is serious about setting one up. It's a negotiating tactic ahead of the next round of Champion's League tv rights discussions. This story rears its head every time a new tv deal needs negotiating.
fuchsntf Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Just proves how the sport mafia works in the USA.. If there are any deeper discussions, all American owners of european clubs, should be made to make a fair play declaration, of no closed shop scenarios. If Euefa even put in a proposal, I would walk away from proffesional football, unless the PL stayed away from the idea. I doubt Germany, Holland, even Italian associatiations would join in with the cranky idea. This is one example if any official documented is put forward, Then I would love to see social media through europe, from fans organisations would get together and conter any move. .

May or may not happen but previous 'discussions' did not have the same level of USA influence.
Larry_LCFC Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Reading on Twitter, it makes me laugh with people all for the idea saying the CL is "boring" and "predictable". Clearly having a cup competition with the same teams and players automatically every year will do wonders for mixing things up. Bellends.

Clearly having a cup competition with the same teams and players automatically every year will do wonders for mixing things up. Bellends. And there's loads of foreign Liverpool/Man U fans who think it should happen, too. They're apparently too good to play the likes of Bournemouth. I wonder if they'll change their minds when they're handed their fourth consecutive 5-0 reaming by Barcelona.
ALC Fox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 I fail to see how a closed shop would be as entertaining in European football. Relegation scraps produce just as incredible results as title challenges. Just look at our 5-3 win over Utd last season, or our, Pompey's, Fulham's and West Brom's great escapes in the past. Close the shop and it'll be Barcelona finishing 1st in 4 seasons out of every 5 with Fiorentina finishing bottom every year, and nobody giving a damn about the other positions and who fills them. Boring.
erlee Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Apparently the story is a load of bollocks and they were just discussing an international pre-season tournament. i think that's more than just a bunch of useless inconsequential sideshows.. me reckon they 're planning some kinda breakaway league - kinda like EPL when it started. no more DIV 1 stuff controlled by the FA.
