davieG Posted 28 January 2016 Author Posted 28 January 2016 This. It won't happen anyway. You don't just **** about with the rules like this and expect any self respecting football fan to just sit and accept it and carry on like normal. CL is the dream, it's the pinicle of club football. They're always messing about with rules. It used to be just the league champions and fa cup winners that got into Europe there's been plenty of other changes
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 It's refreshing at the same time as FIFA are promising a duty of candour..transparency throughout, that an idea as completely bent as this gets mooted. IF it ever happened, it would give any other teams ZERO incentive to better themselves and to try to make the Champs league. Utterly ridiculous idea.
Raw Dykes Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 If this was seriously going to happen, then every club that wouldn't be able to get into Europe should go on strike, or form new leagues where the traitors are banned. I'm sure most lower league clubs would hate this just as much as we do. It's probably the same in most European countries. Why take part if there's no chance of winning? I'd like to think that most people involved in football would do something about this if it was a real possibility, even if it's just turning their back on the sport altogether. This would turn football into a total farce, like wrestling. I wouldn't be in the least bit interested in watching a game that I know is rigged.
DeclanMC Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 I'd imagine the Competition and Markets Authority and the European Commission might have something to say about this. Cartel like behaviour.
davieG Posted 28 January 2016 Author Posted 28 January 2016 I'd imagine the Competition and Markets Authority and the European Commission might have something to say about this. Aberdeenfox Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 AMF Against Modern Football surely a wind up Football's just no football anymore I'm taking my ball and going home
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 If this comes to fruition, then the game of football will have become a shocking, and disgusting farce. The word "competition" will be meaningless.
Guest Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 I couldn't see this happening, unless they're talking about a full-on European league, with relegation/promotion with the domestic leagues. That i would almost consider, erm, considering. How you would manage promotion/relegation is beyond me. "Sorry Juventus, you've finished bottom and Liverpool have won promotion so it looks like you'll be in the premier league next year"
ian_marshall Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 I wonder what constitutes a PL top earning club in the eyes of the so called European elite given the wealth in the league currently. You could argue that around 8 English teams meet that criteria, which clearly wouldn't happen so there must be other criteria. Therefore do they define it based on domestic success, European success, global profile? If it's Domestic success Liverpool would miss out on recent history, if it's European success then Man City nor Arsenal would make the cut. I certainly can't imagine that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham would pleased about being left out of such a competition.
4everfox Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 If this happens I along with millions more will never watch or care about football again which is exactly why it won't happen. Reading that made me so angry, no team has a divine right to compete at the highest level. If I was Claudio I'd show that to the players before every match just to rile them up. Disgusting.
fuchsntf Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 Not really they could just say we're starting a new league and invite whichever clubs they want to join. So right. People forget how the various big footballing countries, new 1st divisions/PL equivilant started. Theyve all been messed with, so far for the better..imo. Although I think many fans would pull away from the idea, including some fans from the 'chosen few'. If lets say, the END- descision is actually in 3-5 years time, and Leicester and West Ham are continuously then in the top 3.If not winning but always in the semis or quater finals.I wonder then what our fans would say, follow and pay for, if our clubs are invited to this spectacle.. I for one, would still make a descision, of not supporting it, nor any longer that club that I considered once mine. No super European league for me. We have the CL with clubs around europe competing to qualify and earn their right to higher glory, thats suffice for me.

This would make the likes of Man United and whoever is involved in this conspiracy useless businesses that nobody cares about. The attention would soon switch to the newly formed leagues as the conspiracy league would involve about 10 teams, their players would quit in favour of joining the more competitive league and those traitors would cease to exist. They would literally be begging to be admitted back into the football league that they left. Sore losers.
CORNFOX68 Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 The champions league is boring enough as it is without having below average performing teams in it just because they are or were a big club once upon a time, you will have the mighty forest trying to get in through the back door next.
The Doctor Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 Hasn't a european super league been mulled every few years for several decades? People will keep suggesting it and it'll continue to not happen.
TeamRocket Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 This makes me sick!! If this happens i will never watch any Manchester sh!t United or European football ever again!!
desertfox2 Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 Aside from everything else. Wouldn't teams on size not merit just get smashed everyweek by the good big sides? I wonder how many people would want to go to old Trafford to see man u get mauled every week. Isn't that the whole point of having qualifying? Why not let Leeds or Forest join or Newcastle.... sure they would all give barca or bayern a good game
dylanlegend Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 Brilliant idea. Hope it happens. It'll be like the Milk cup that no-one gives a shite about, teams like AC Milan, Man U, Liverpool and all other teams like Barca, Real Madrid can laugh at how Pathetic these so called 'big vlhbs' have become
Sleepy Fox Posted 29 January 2016 Posted 29 January 2016 Where is this article even from? Any link? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/6891343/Euro-giants-plan-Champions-League-cartel.html

"Sorry Juventus, you've finished bottom and Liverpool have won promotion so it looks like you'll be in the premier league next year" A few years ago, actually 20 years ago, I spent an evening in a dutch bar, and this topic of a full European league. Came up, suddenly 40 of us took to a room and debated it.English, dutch, german, italian, Spanish, scandinavian, French and a couple of other nations were represented. We for some reason then extended it to be once a week for a month. Expat football fanatics. Criterias set. # from outset Only the Champions from each seperate country's league. # like the old days, 2nd 3rd maybe 4th would now qualify only for the normal then euefa-cup. # To prevent one country being heavily represented for too long.Every 3-4 years, max of 2 clubs from same land.. ..... i) even if your won that league that year, the longest serving returns to home league. .......ii) relegation.bottom 2....iii) so only max of between 3-4 yrs in the elite league. # Obviously each country's FA, need to organise, how they take on the returning clubs .+ sorting out the relegation/promotion between their own 2 tiers. # The smaller countries, will play qualifyers to see who goes to this Elite league. # Even if playing in this elite league. Home cup competitions are still a must. # Elite league also would have a Fa-cup style competition. ....Winner if relegation threatened stays in the league. But Still goes home if 4 yrs completed. # season ticket holders from teams in the Elite teams, will have travel subsidised, i) 1 from club itself and ii) from the elite league association. # Now this was split and brought various opinions..There should be 2 leagues of equal quality fair share of minnows as possible.Champions from each league play against each other in super cup. This brought the biggest split or arguments. Some saying one league only, and minnows playing each other off in qualification until only...2/4/6 remained. This also split opinions # Ratings: I have actually forgot how we sorted that out.One thing I remember is if a so called minnows Country qualified for the International WC/ECups, if that country then got through the 1st phase. The Champion clubs, from that land would not be rated as a minnow for 2 or more seasons. Those were the major points I remember, there were other theories and ideas mentioned and put forward. I forgot many or gist of other points. We even had the idea of sending a suggestion document to EUFA. I know that quite a few of these lads/lasses, actually got together sometime later, dont know any outcome. It can be suprising, what expats or long travelling backpackers, especially football fans can conjure up. When I travelled and lived in Mexico, there was a sort of club for European/S.american football fans, and a famous British writer often attended, his name is failing me , but info, fun, opinions were excitingly exchanged. One time some Bayern Munich fans came in, a bit too heavy on opinions, and suddenly the veteran german fans and local fans, inviting the brits to join in a discussion on the Who, led zepplin, connection to the local profi clubs, America and Atlas, and the hated Gradalajara, ...there wasnt any connection...its just the german expats wanted to piss off the Bayern fans, it was funny watching their faces. oh well the world and football.. We should get the syrians and IS groups play football on the battlefields, drop 10,000s of footballs and not bombs, adding City shirts to float slowly down.. printed with Wazi and Vardy faces.

Wizerud Posted 29 January 2016 Posted 29 January 2016 Any clubs supporting this proposal should be banned from European competition for three years for bringing the game into disrepute. Idiots.
