May or may not happen but previous 'discussions' did not have the same  level of USA  influence.

once the yanks get hold of your game - you're finished.

just like they did Liverfool.

Stillitano said: “What would Manchester United argue: Did we create soccer or did Leicester create (it)? Let’s call it the money pot created by soccer and the fandom around the world. Who has had more of an integral role, Manchester United or Leicester? It’s a wonderful, wonderful story. But you could see it from Manchester United’s point of view too.”

If the Premier League season ended now, Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur would qualify for the Champions League alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.

“Maybe that is absolutely spectacular unless you are a Manchester United fan, Liverpool fan ... or a Chelsea fan,” Stillitano said. “I guess they don’t have a birthright to be in it every year. But it’s the age-old argument: US sports franchises versus what they have in Europe. “There are wonderful, wonderful, wonderful elements to relegation and promotion. And there are good arguments for a closed system.”

How utterly depressing that anybody can say something like that with a straight face.

There will be no super league and nobody is serious about setting one up. It's a negotiating tactic ahead of the next round of Champion's League tv rights discussions. This story rears its head every time a new tv deal needs negotiating.

I agree that the'closed shop' idea is not serious and probably a negotiating tactic,

but I wouldn't be suprised to see something like the Eurovision Song Contest where

some countries are guaranteed a place every year even if they are shit.

Jesus christ. I can't believe they're real quotes. First America produces Donald Trump now we have this guy trying to ruin football.

Apparently, the other clubs are furious and are going to demand answers about this meeting at the next Premier League meeting. 14 clubs have to vote in favour of any changes to the Premier League and as the other clubs outnumber them 15 to 5, this will not happen. I think they would actually have to resign from the league but doing that would mean there's no way back if a super league dies on it's arse. Unless of course, they start at the bottom. It would serve them right too, 10 years climbing back up the leagues to actually earn their place might cure them of their entitled attitude.

Genuinely one of the most sickest things I have ever read.

If the so called "big five" are meeting and even discussing the idea they should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, it's a shame the other 15 PL clubs can't boot them out the league.

What next? Man Utd start the season on 15 points due to the amount of money they bring in? Liverpool lead 2-0 when we kick off at Anfield?

What I find funny is until recent Man City wasn't a 'big club' until really the Roman era Chelsea wasn't particularly a 'big club' Liverpool have struggled to hold a champions league position in recent years.

It is purely based on club financial power.

Let them runaway to their 'super league' and kick them out the league.

European competitions are based on the winners from each country going head-to-head which is what makes is exciting to watch and an honour for clubs to play in. Granted you will always get regulars like Real, Barca and Bayern but you will always get some surprise teams have the excitement of hosting big teams too which is what makes it special.

Few years in the 'super league' and they will be bored as will be as interesting as the pre-season cups that are ran in Asia and America

Man city are no bigger than Leicester

It's just they have a crazy rich and mental business plan

This league will never generate the same money as the premier league

I can't see it happening without UEFA and premier league input

Americans - no history and no soul! lol.

Every time I turn my computer on and get bombarded with adverts and flickering, "take notice", interruptions I don't want, I think of Americanisation and how it's all designed to intrude in the name of the great God money or the insatiable desire to advise, promote, control and direct.

They are so bad mannered and think nothing of the rudeness of continual interruption...a bit like Andrew Neil!

And we just follow like greedy sheep.

Years ago there were a few adverts at the end of each television programme. Now it's every few minutes and they often do a recap in the programme, in case you've forgotten what you watched a few minutes earlier.

Americans and football? They're a liability and would sell any aspect for a quick buck.

They have so little appreciation of the game that the first thing they'd do is widen the goals and make them taller to ensure high-scoring matches if they could get the control to do so.

It's why they like basketball so much - there's always another two points to add. Games finish 110-108 and there's no real challenge to scoring a basket. Just get the tallest bloke you can so he can virtually place the ball in the net - big deal.

They really have no appreciation of the concept of a 0-0 draw being dramatic and the merit of a great battle between defence and attack. It's all shallow to them. Fast food but with a ball.

Meh it's one American guy who organises money spinning tournaments. I really doubt he knows much about football other than it's commercial value.

That pretty much did happen last season, definite attempt by the ref to swing the game

He obviously doesn't realise a lot of football's commercial value comes from the underdog stories within the sport. How the fvck has he made his money?

Whilst we're at it.

How about a sliding scale of point reduction dependant on what the clubs cost to run.

The poor kids have stolen their ball.
