Vardy and Drinkwater on the bench tomorrow

Well, looks like we're gonna try and play a possession game against a team like Germany.

This game is going to end up a microcosm of Tottenham's reserves against Dortmund.

I think that no-one will play a full game in either match so that should hopefully save their stamina for the important stuff . Anyone know if Saints have international call ups ?

As usual you're completely missing the point - just sticking our players in wont make england the best side in the world, but that's not what anyone except probably Scouse thinks.

What people have a problem with is the attitude that their exclusion is based on, that Woy hasn't made any attempt to, and seemingly doesn't really want to, shake things up after brazil, and besides enforced changes like Gerard's retirement and sturridge being permanently crocked, you'll go in with the same players and system as in Brazil, despite you being shown to be woefully mediocre playing with such a setup.

He has shook things up in certain areas of the pitch, he just hasnt shook them up with Leicester players. Thats the issue people have.

I accept that Henderson and Lallana are what you might call "Hodgson picks", but Kane has emerged post World Cup, the left back position could be filled by Shaw if fit or by Rose. Eric Dier and Dele Alli have come into the side, Ross Barkley has played a bigger part in the team.

What would be your "shake up" for the England team? what would you do that you think would improve the England team immensely?

Nothing much changes with England, Lallana And Henderson for 9th place Liverpool ahead of Vardy and Drinks for the leaders, hope England get battered

I was thinking the same thing.

I also hope they don't go to the euro's either. I'd rather them sit on a beach for 3 weeks resting rather than being dragged round France to sit on the bench for 90 minutes for 3 games.

Leicester will always be my priority as a football supporter. Since Hodgson has taken over England I have to admit that I have fell out of love with them, I could never do that with Leicester no matter who was in charge. Hodgson is just a negative manager in every sense of the word. He uses ineffectual negative tactics and he makes negative team selections, there is literally nothing to like about England whilst he is in charge. I actually hope we get embarrassed in the Euro's and eliminated early so that we can rid ourselves of Hodgson. I don't care if his replacement is foreign as long he selects the right team and uses tactics that actually work. If Hodgson had any clue what he was doing he would look at what Leicester are doing and think "we could do that". If he built the team and tactics around Vardy like we have done this season then who knows what England could have achieved, because we aren't as good as Hodgson thinks and we are most certainly underdogs. I actually think Leicester play the way that England should play. Well organised, difficult to break down and lethal on the counter attack. We have got the players to use this style of play currently so why not do it instead of try to pass the ball around the defense like we are Barcelona or something? We aren't Barcelona and we never will be. Tippy tappy doesn't work with England and its not easy on the eye like most would have you believe. Fast and direct is what I consider eye candy. Hodgson out, rant over.

You're talking about Kane emerging, Shaw coming into left back, Alli coming into midfield but none of this is him shaking it up - they're coming in because the old options (Sturridge, Cole, Gerrard) aren't available due to injury/retirement.

He's sticking with a 4-2-3-1 system that has been nothing short of a failure, getting embarrassed every time you face anyone with a modicum of quality. Ignore the forced changes in personnel, has he changed a single aspect of the tactics, the formation or the approach? No. It's the same strategy as Brazil, just replacing Sturridge due to injury and Gerrard due to retirement.

Simple enough - round pegs in round holes and drop Rooney. Stop with a possession style you're not good enough to play and instead play to your strengths - the attack and midfield you've got is pace and trickery in the likes of sterling, welbeck and Oxlade-Chamberlain; work with that rather than just passing it around and hoping holes open up.

So Roy has been called numerous things in this thread.

Hypothetical question - if he left tomorrow, who would you replace him with?

Nige. Not gonna happen but that's who I'd want and have if I were the one making the decisions.

No nonsonse will be had in the England team if he were in charge, all your ego's will be out the window, players will be selected and played on merit.

Well, nobody could do any worse that's for sure. I would actually go for Marcelo Bielsa.

Club > Country - couldn't care less about the England team TBH, just want our players back uninjured for the run-in.

Jorge Sampaoli would be the Hodgson replacement i think tht would give fans the football they want.

Remember the days when all England did was play 4-4-2? Now seem a like 4-2-3-1 is the holy grail for Hodgson and England. Why not find a formation and tactic that suits the players you've got, rather than the other around?

It's not about picking Vardy and Drinkwater. It's about utilising our best players in the most efficient way possible. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Vardy played on the left side on Tuesday.

And the 4-4-2 didnt work either.

This is the point im making, the lack of success runs deeper in the England team than whats discussed in this thread.

Honestly though, just picking Drinkwater and Vardy wont suddenly make England world beaters.

We dont produce top talent often enough. We dont produce players with the skills that make them world class. There is disconnect between the Premier League and the national team, the clubs aims not aligning with those of the national team. Our development of youth falls behind other countries.

The inclusion or non inclusion of Drinkwater and Vardy is almost irrelevant.

I've never once said it would. I just think our reluctance to ever try to change anything is a serious hindrance to our chances going forward.

It's not just the fact Henderson's there instead of Drinkwater, it's the same unsuited formation, the same insistence on players out of position, he's completely deluded about our system, it's completely ordinary and beating Slovenia and Estonia doesn't change that.

I honestly don't know where to start with England. It's a complete top to bottom shambles but our reluctance to change is the single main fault. It's why we'll win nothing in my lifetime.

No i know you didnt Dan, i perhaps shouldnt have quoted, but i wanted to make the point that the issues run deep.

We need to produce better players, and basically better coaches and managers. Danny Drinkwater is not good enough as an absolute top level footballer and neither is Jamie Vardy. I dont see us producing any genuine world class players, ever.

But these are our options we have to turn to to try something else.

I mean, we could change to 4-4-2 and get even worse.

We have to totally reshape everything from the grass roots to get anywhere.

The sooner Hodgson is out the door the better. We will never move forward as a nation until the 'big club' mentality is banished and that players get picked on form.

I understand having a few 'big name' players within the squad but feck me come on, everyone knows the likes of Vardy and Drinkwater should be starting and getting a game, in a friendly atleast, to play in their preferred position to see whether they are capable of making it at international level.

Its not about Leicester players not being in the squad tonight, I cant get my head around Roys selection process's

What does he see in games that most of us must miss, as some players in contention for a Euro spot, if wasn't at a so called top 6 club wouldn't even get a look into the England squad.

You put Henderson,Welbeck,Jagielka,Sterling in a team in the bottom half would they be picked...I very much doubt it.

Its a real shame as their are some cracking players this season like Noble,Shawcross,Albrighton,Deeney to name a few, having excellent seasons and not  getting the international the recognition they deserve.

How deep does this run throughout the England Set up...Roy...FA...Sponsorship so "name Player" has to attend.

Somethings got to change drastically for England to get remotely near to the position they want to be.

Roys never been the answer, just a "yes" man for the powers above.

No need for tried as treated as we know they have got us nowhere for the last few tournaments, players producing the goods most weeks is a good start.

Kane and Vardy can tear defences apart  upfront in the Euros we can all see it apart from Roy

play them up front together with Ali behind its not rocket science.

Yep. I actually think he'd consider it as well.

Not at all surprised 3/4 Spurs players are in the starting line-up, someone must be whispering in Hodgson's ear.

Some of them starting are either aren't in-form or just over-rated. Hope they prove me wrong and beat the Germans, but appears a tall order.

I had to check the username to see if I'd wrote this myself.

Which Spurs player isn't there on merit?

Because you had three excellent cms and no recognisable left winger. You're sort of proving his point that england don't select formations to suit their players.

If anything, youre proving my point that we dont produce players with the necessary skills.
